Run!
I USUALLY DON'T REVIEW DRAMAS I DIDN'T LIKE BUT I THINK THE RATING 7.6 IS MISLEADING.[Edit: as of 05/12/2022 the rating is 6.9 still very high for such an abysmal drama]
This drama has no redeeming qualities.
I was excited when I learned that the two leads were cast in Misty's screenwriter's next. Misty was such a good drama with a geat story and acting.
Then the stills and title were good too and I won't lie ; the rated R got me all the more excited because I thought it would be a mature and more realistic than drama like Misty, Something In The Rain, The World of the Married...
But my expectations were smashed by the reality that was this messy drama.
In Misty, the female lead was a career woman who chose her career over everything. She was a complicated woman who hurt herself and her loved ones to achieve her goal.
In Now We Are Breaking Up, we were served with a goody two shoes who somehow won everyone over with her upright attitude and Song Hye Ko's acting or lack thereof didn't help understand or empathize with the character she embodies.
THE STORY
The story was poorly written. It's supposed to be about a great love story and the hardships the main leads will encounter and try to fight against.
Instead, it's about a 38-year old woman who has yet to move on from a 2-month relationship that happened 10 years ago. Said woman is traimatized from having been ghosted by a guy she met in a foreign country and dated for 2 months... I personnaly tought it was ridiculous.
The story actually begins with the heroine having a one night stand with the hero. They don't exchange names or number and spend the night together. It's supposed to be mysterious and hot but it's actually a dangerous behaviour imo
I had a hard time understanding Song Hye Ko's character. She was supposed to be a successful career woman in the fashion industry but she was too soft and forgave betrayal such as the leakage of some of her designs.
How can someone keep an untrustworthy person in their team ? That untrustworthy person was also someone who wasn't loyal and was ready to jump ship when things went south.
So how can a successful career minded person keep such a liability on their side ? How are we supposed to believe that ?
Then the drama opening with a ONS is supposed to show us how modern and independant FL is but then her friends implied it wasn't customary for her to see men.
So what is actually the state of her love life ? Did she have ONS during these 10 years? Was she so emotionally stunted that she forgot about men for those 10 years ? If so, what was so special about the ML fot her to have a ONS with him ? There was no build up to help her understand this.
And now this 38 year old independant woman lets her parents and the ML parent's interfere in their relationship? Had she been younger I could have enpathise but she being successful, independant (lived abroad alone and has her own flat), it's ridiculous and annoying that she'd let parents run such interferences because she's at an age were she's supposed to understand that even if her parents disapprove of her relationship, they most likely won't cut contact with her (especially since she always gives them money) and with soften after some years or/and if they have children.
When her mother yelled at the ML like a banshee, she didn't even try to intervene and we are supposed to think they are so in love and can't live without each other... but how can you let someone you love be disrespected in their own shop ?
The worse thing is that she left with her mother instead of staying to confort the hero.
The Male lead played by Jang Ki Yong is an empty vessel. One cannot understand what attracts him so much about the FL.
She's pretty but she's cold, unresponsive and too much hassle.
His only purpose is to give the FL props to resolve some of the issues she encounters while managing her brand. Otherwise he's uninteresting.
When he realized he took a fancy in his brother's ex, he keeps going even though the relationship is at an early stage and everything could have been stopped.
It seens unresonnable and illogical especially since we don't see what is the great connect between the two leads. Why are they throwing I Love You's around when they barely spent and spend time together.
The FL parents are something else alltogether. They are agaisnt the relationship when they both liked the ML ar first because FL dated his brother for only 2 month in a foreign country. Why is it a bad thing ? They are supposed to want their daughter's hapiness but are against the relationship for something that can be deemed as trivial because she was neither engaged nor married to his brother and no one would know they dated.
The mother was the worst imo because she threw tantrums about wanting a divorce when she was the one saying she didn't want to do anything to jeopardize her daughter's future marriage. But in SK, divorced parents are bad news and won't help... she doesn't even make sense and is seeking a divorce instead of trying to talk with her husband about the reason she wants out.
I also found her cringey for always wanting to hook up her daughter with the rich woman's son. She was really desperate for it.
But she was crass for saying what she said to the ML's face for things he can't help (his lineage and family condition) and acting as if her daughter was such a great price.
It seemd more like she was releasing her frustration on someone who would take it without doing anything.
The ML's mother is more easy to understand because she's someone who has yet to do her mourning but I didn't understand why she kept acting as if ML was like her real son when her interior showed that their relationship was anything but. They were no pics of the two/three of them together ; ML was sent away since his youth when his brother got to grow up in the family household.
I could understand her opposition to some degree but not her acting as if ML was her son and not some replacement.
The subplots with the best friends weren't any better.
The director was childish and incompetent. At 38yo it's not cute anymore but downright ridiculous.
I thought she could have been a good negative character instead of adding to the mix the ML's brother's crazy ex.
The ex-model who is dying from cancer is one of the most mature character of the drama.
My hung up is that her subplot included cheated and a terminal illness. Would'nt it have been better if her husband would have come clean sooner or if she'd died without knowing ? Because it's really bizarre how she's trying to set up her husband with her affair partner and saying that woman is a good person. A good person won't knowingly sleep with a married man with a child!
I feel there was so much to say in this section for the best friend to have closure but it all became messy and non sensical.
Finally, the brother's ML who everyone is regretting was a dishonet coward.
Why did he tell the heroine he was an only child ? Why did he date her when he was already engaged ? It was pure nonsense especially since these fact weren't exploited more in the drama.
THE ACTING
The main leads were really bad and the only thing they brought to the table was their looks. The ensemble cast did their job but they couldn't do much woth thr roles they were given.
THE MUSIC
It was the only decent thing in the drama though it wasn't groundbreaking.

When a king falls in love...
This drama explores the life of Crown Prince Sado's son King Jeongjo from his time as a Crown Prince to his becoming the King of Joseon. With a focus on a romanticize version of his love story with Noble Royal Consort Ui.Through the drama, we witness his numerous relationships: firstly with his abusive grand-father whom he loves and respects (but also fears), his childish and vindictive aunt, his neutral and shrewd step grand-mother, his loyalist yet ambitious and cunning loyal servant, and also the mischievous, straightforward and cute maidservant who'll become the love of his life.
We also witness the hurdles he has to face to keep his position as the Crown Prince. Those hurdles aren't redundant and are dealt with quickly enough as to not become repetitive and boring.
It could seem to be yet another Sageuk but to me, The Red Sleeve is easily one of the dramas of the year because it explores the depth of some relationships (e.g. the abusive relationship the Crown Prince shares with his grandfather) ; but also the scorn of the women who are locked in the Palace -a Palace that is no better than a gilded cage.
The acting was top-notch. Lee Jun Ho is just perfect in his role. I already liked his acting but with this drama he became one of my favorite actors. He's really excellent and I already can't wait for his next project (greedy I know).
The actor who played the grand-father was great too. He had great scenes which really pulled me in.
All the cast was great and everyone got the opportunity to shine.
The storytelling was really well-done. I usually get bored with other sageuks towards their ending because it feels too convoluted or draggy, but here the author managed to wrap up the subplots quite early so the story could move forward with new intrigues.
It wasn't heavy either as the romance, the comedy, the thriller elements and the sad moments were well-woven.
Regarding the characters, I absolutely LOVED how they portrayed the main lead as the Crown Prince and the King. He could seem cruel because he aimed to be fair. Some might end up disliking him because of these moments where he chose to be a king who shouldered the weight of his nation instead of a man who could make his woman his top priority but he couldn't do this as the King.
This was the burden he had to bear as the King of a nation.
I loved that he was aware that his privileged life came with a price but also that as the son of Crown Prince Sado, he had to be perfect (neither lecherous nor domineering ; neither indulging nor frivolous).
The only thing he let himself indulge in was his love for the female lead -which translated in some intense scenes.
As for the female lead, she was smart and astute. Though she could be frustrating, one could understand where she was coming from.
It interesting to see her character's evolution from a carefree girl to a more composed and rule-abiding one.
The Red Sleeve is really worth the watch because the staff members (behind and in front of the camera) did a good job in delivering the story. It was a beautifully filmed drama too.
For me The Ref Sleeve is easily one of the best dramas of 2021.

A "young" mom's foray into motherhood
This drama introduces us to the world of birthcare center throught Oh Hyun Jin's journey's into motherhood.Oh Hyun Jin, 42, is THE ace in her field as the executive of a big firm. She has many achievements the latest being her promotion as the youngest member of the board but she's clueless when it comes to motherhood, childcare and babies.
As a woman having had to go through a geriatric pregnancy, she has a lot of insecurities because of what the pregnancy did to her body, the uncertainty of the future, the discovery that motherhood isn't necessarily what it's made out to be -instinctive and easy.
It's in the birthcare centre that she'll encounter other young mothers who seem to better prepared and more confident. That's when confidence and certainties will start to plummet as she'll realise that having a baby is more than bearing and birthing it.
Oh Hyun Jin will meet other young mothers in the centres who will help her grow and with whom she'll be able to share some of her insecurities : the perfect Jo Eun Jung, the feisty Lee Do Ra, the friendly Park Yoon Ji and the director of the institute, the strict but caring, Choi Hye Sook.
Birthcare Center is a great drama which will resonate with those having experienced having a baby or having someone close who went throught it and shared the experience.
It helps break some taboos and raise some interesting debates with humour -I laughed out loud more than once.
Though the drama is a comedy, there is some melodrama -which brought me to tears because it so heartbreaking and heartwarming at once, with thriller element.
Birthcare center is a must watch for me with great re-watch value. I'm a little bummed it's only 8 episodes but this format ensures it's face paced.
All in all, the message I got from this drama is that "We aren't born to be mothers so that's okay not to feel like others say we are supposed to feel, it's okay to be clueless because we can learn and it's okay to want to keep one's identity and not be solely recognized as a mother".

A favourite of mine. Great for beginners.
METS is a great drama. I'd go as far as saying it's the perfect drama to dive into sageuks. It was my first sageuk and I a real page-turner I finished in only 2 days. The storyline is interesting, exciting and heartbreaking. It will keep one on the edge of their seats and holding their breath to know what will happen next but there is comedy too so the drama ends up not being too heavy.
I was hesitant when I saw the younger cast would have a lot of screen time but they were so good I wished to follow them from start to finish. They emote so well and were able to play complicated characters.
One can see the trajectory their career paths took and it's well-deserved because they are all so talented.
I was disappointed when the time came for a time jump but I ended up enjoying the older cast as much as the younger one. They managed to stay in line with they younger counterparts mannerism and keep our attention on the drama.
It has great rewatch value. I watched it time and again without getting bored and impatient.

Though the show has low production value and that the screenplay is a mess at times, this show is easily a guilty pleasure of sort if one isn't put off by cheating.I for one don't begrudge the ML for cheating on heroine in the first stage of there marriage as he didn't love her and married her only for what she stood instead of the person she actually was.
Theirs was a rushed and neither of them realized what they were getting into.
The ML has every flaws one could imagine (spoiled, selfish, arrogant, short-tempered and short-sighted) and few redeeming qualities but when he took the time to know his bride he really fell in love even though he managed to fuck it all up because of his afore-mentionned flaws.
It's interesting to see the downgrade spiral he had after the separation.
The FL could be perceived as a doormat but she was so strong imo! Firstly because she tried to endure the situation she was into and secondly because she walked out when she decided she had enough (it might have been a really hard decisionfor someone who grew up in a gilded cage and was only destinated to be a good wife and mother).
Her strength was also demonstrated time and again with the way she dealt with most of the situations she was presented with.
As for the secondary characters I liked Pan and Prang because they added to the drama and played their parts very well.
I'm part of the few people who is glad they'll end up together. Non isn't for her and is worst than the ML in books because he took the decision to walk out of her life without consulting her AND when his family was insulting the FL he didn't really stand up for her.
Had she married him, she would have had to deal with a hostile family (she would have handled it well but it wouldn't have been confortable).
I like that they got bavk together as two mature and aware people. They grew up during their marriage and during their separations. The FL monologue at the end says it better lol.
It's not a drama I'll go back to (I rarely rewatch dramas except some of my fav) but it was quite addictive once I got into it.
This drama is a guilty pleasure for sure with catfight galore, characters we love to hate, drama, verbal sparing...
I won't recommend it strongly but it can be a nice watch as a filler.

Love Like the Galaxy: Part 1

The tale of two scarred people
Love Like The Galaxy is the tale of two scarred people.Chen Shao Shang was left behind as infant by her general parents and was subsequently mistreated by her aunt and grandmother. As for Ling Buyi, he's the nephew of the late and famed hero General Huo, and was brought up by his mentally ill mother.
While CSS is criticised by all for being unladylike, scheming and uneducated ; LBY is the most sought-after bachelor of the capital because of his achievements in the army and his close and intimate relationship with the ruling emperor.
THE STORY
I had previously watched and loved The Story of Ming Lan which was penned by the same author for several reasons: first, because it was an epic (and ironically, realistic) love and family story within a typical Song household; and second, because it was the right mix of slice-of-life, romance and political themes in an historical drama. Well, in Love Like The Galaxy, it was once again the perfect balance between these different genres. One could easily sense it was the work of the same author but each of those stories still holds their own essence.
It was a well-woven tale in which we saw the characters grow and change over time.
It was all magnified by the work of the director who gave us great visuals. It was grand when it needed to be, poetic when it needed to be and melancholic when it needed to be.
Additionally, the fight scenes were so well choreographed and filmed that it reinforced the fact that LBY was the capable and gifted general we were told he was ; CSS was so magnificent in her various attires that we understood why she said to be this great beauty.
On the characters now.
THE CHARACTERS AND THEIR DYNAMICS
CSS reminded me of Antigone who is someone wants everything in full without compromising on anything. In Jean Anouilh's play, Antigone tells her uncle something like this "I want everything, now and in full, otherwise I'll forsake it" [approximative translation]
CSS is someone who is convinced her life is cursed. She wants to live her life on her own terms, unrestrained and without compromising on anything.
Despite her being uneducated, she's smart and mature because of the life she was made to live due to her aunt's mistreatment.
I love smart characters especially when we witness how smart and wise they are by their actions and thought process. And in regards to CSS, I have to admit that I just loved how vindictive she was and how she always gave it back.
As for LBY, I must say that I was enamored with his character from the get go because I love powerful and smart male leads. But in his case, I also loved how we were shown his dark side at times. It was an aspect of his personality everyone was aware of and which gained him the reputation of being a sinister and ruthless general.
His character could seem one dimensional at first glance, but he had many layers that were peeled along the way and which let us see what and who he really was what actually deep down.
I so loved the contrast that was shown with his character : sweet when he was with CSS and cruel when he dealt with his opponents.
The two leads were alike and different in so many ways and it's why theirs wasn't a relationship that formed straight away and why it was so fulfilling to watch their relationship evolved and strengthen along the way.
The actors suited each other so well and they managed to bring out the chemistry of the characters on screen. We could feel the attraction and love between them and understand why they were each other's endgame.
Indeed, both CSS and LBY were both alphas in their society and thus attracted the attention of many admirers. CSS's other suitors' characterization (which isn't a surprise as it was also the case in The Story Of Ming Lan) was well done as they didn't solely exist because of their relationship/infatuation with the FL and each of them had their own strengths and weaknesses which made their relationship with CSS special. One could understand the relationships that developed.
Overall, I would strongly recommend this drama as it's a real page turner. It's an easy watch as one wants to see what will happen next. It's not a predictable story and furthermore, it's well-written and the characters are endearing.
I recommend this drama to those who love inner court dramas like The Story of Ming Lan and The Sword and The Brocade ; smart heroines like the two precited dramas, The Story of Yanxi Palace and The Court Lady ; sassy heroines like The Story of Yanxi Palace and My Sassy Princess ; dark heros like Goodbye, My Princess

Even better on rewatch !
I already watched this drama twice and it was even better the second time around.I really loved that the story was as described and that there was no half measure. The nang'ek was indeed coerced into being the Pra'ek's mistress and acted as a mistress.
I was a nice change that the main characters would usually be atributed to second leads. They managed to make us see what was beyond the bigger lines of their characters.
Chitchaba was a mistress but she was more than that.
Patawee was her tormentor but he was more than that.
The push and pull between Chitchaba and Patawee was entertaining.
Kwan Usmanee and Tui were great in their roles. She brought in the needed spice and fragility to her character while he brought in the needed alpha attitude and arrogance to his.

A beautiful tale
It's a beautiful story.Kudos to the author who was able to bring to us a meaningful story about healing and supporting each other. The direction was topnotch too and complemented the story.
I liked how the author used tales to support her story either by having the moral of these stories illustrating a point of the drama or by having the characters having their own take on these tales.
KSH has succeeded in coming back after 5 years of absence from the small screen. He was great as MGT and was able to offer a restrained performance that still touched our heartstrings and made us feel for the character.
It could have been a wooden performance had it been played by an actor with lesser acting skills.
SYJ was just great as KMY and I was pleasantly surprised by her performance. She cemented her place as one of my favorite actresses after her roles in Hwarang and Save Me -I liked her in Lawless Lawyer but the drama was sadly not up to notch.
SYJ was able to bring the craziness of KMY while being funny and endearing. I I can't imagine anyone else having her part. That's how good she was.
As OJS he waw superb in his impersonnation of MST -MGT's autistic brother. I was floored by how well he owned his character ; the mannerisms, the line delivery...
I saw this actor in Hot Stove League not long ago and his two characters are as different as night and day.
The side characters were also awesome. Be it the junior artist or the hospital patients.
Plus point : The chemistry between KSH and SYJ was sizzling and I'm hoping they'll act together again. They completed together physically but their pairing also worked well together in the acting department.
The music was very good and went well with the drama. My personnal favorite is Silent by Janett Suhh.
All in all, IONTNO is the great drama with great rewatch value imo because even though the mystery is unveiled, their is more more to the story (the characters' growth, the side characters stories, the lighthearted and heartwarming moments, the heartwrenching moments...)

A magical slow-burn love
I absolutely loved it! It was simple yet it managed to capture the complexities of relationship in an era where every relationships were governed by rules and morality. This story is about the daughter of a concubine from a prominent family who will end up marrying her deceased sister's husband to safeguard her nephew's future.
It didn't sound exiting to me when I first read the synopsis and I started this drama as a filler but soon enough I was absorbed by the intricate plot of this drama.
It's quite new for me as I usually watch period dramas that are set in the royal palace. Here it takes place outside of it, in a high-ranking family household and while we hear about the Emperor and see the characters being subjected to his command, we never see him or hear his voice. It was quite refreshing to see how people lived outside the palace, how they fared and how a household was run.
What I loved the most was the slow-burn love between the leads. We could see and feel them fall in love with one another and one could just swoon while watching them.
The characters are well written: FL is a modern woman of her era who while respectful of the rules still wants to stay independent despite marrying in a noble family of high status. She's open-minded and treat everyone fairly -which might have to do with her being born and brought up by a concubine ; she's nice, smart and wise despite her young age. All in all, she's an anomaly which might be why she was the only woman who was able to melt the ML's heart.
As for the ML, he's upright, cold, dutiful, patriotic and uptight. He's praised for all his achievements and his sense of justice. Despite having already been involved with 4 wives/concubines when he marries the FL, he's not lustful or player. He's instead a filial son who always obeys his mother when she asks him to take a concubine for one reason or the other.
He's someone who does everything out of duty and doesn't seek any pleasure out of life ; that's why I loved seeing him fall slowly fall in love and sometimes bend the rules for his wife. It was heartwarming.
Both characters might seem sickeningly sweet to some, but I feel one has to watch this drama in its entirety to see how these two could actually hurt others with their behavior.
The ensemble cast was great and all the characters added to the drama.
THE MUSIC was beautiful. I'm listening to it on loop.
It was perfect for the drama because it's soft and enhances the emotional scenes. My favorite is Fallen Ink sung by Wallace Chung (the lead actor).
RE-WATCH VALUE is a strong 10 for me because I actually want to go back and watch it all over again (which I'll actually do soon enough). I still have a strong hangover.

A drama spanning 3 lifetimes
I didn't really know what to expect and I procrastinated quite a bit before starting this drama as it seemed not to have work as expected.I finally watched it for Taew and JamesJi and I don't regret it.
Despite what I read, the drama wasn't confusing and I was pulled in straigh away.
The characterizations were well done and so I didn't find any of them annoying.
It's a great drama because the more one goes forward and the more the intrigue and especially the characters motivations become clearer.
We understand that karma is one of the main "character" of this drama as each of the characters carry it through their next lives which has an influence on their personalities and caracteristics.
The nang'rai wasn't on the crazy side and her motivations were understandable as it came from a place of hurt.
The nang'ek wasn't naive, stupid or annoying which was a nice chance with some other dramas I have seen.
The Pra'ek was cool, charming and very alpha.
The cast
The whole cast was superb and carried this drama well.
I was so happy to see more of the Taew×JamesJi koo jin as they have so much chemistry *0*
Kudos to the actress who plays the nang'rai. She was really good.
This drama is worth a watch.

It's a nice story -which might be a common trope in other Lakorns- but here the focus was mainly on the two leads and how their relationship grew and morphed into more. There wasn't too much disruption by other characters and when it happened,it was to help the plot move forward which resulted in the drama not being draggy.
All the characters were well-written. Their motivations were clear and the tidbits of history we had about them helped understand them better.
The leads had great chemistry and complemented each other well! I'm still swooning when I think about them hihi.
The FL was a (nice) brat which was a nice change. Her character added spice to the drama and the actress did a good job not making her annoying.
She had killer looks in the drama. All her outfits were to die for.
As for the ML, it was a nice suprise to see a ML in a Lakorn who stood by the FL faithfully without wavering. The casting of the actor was on point here again.
Needless to say that this drama gives one hell of a hangover and I'm sure to go back to watching it again. It's now one of my favourite dramas.

The story was gripping and full of surprises and the acting was great -I know people who aren't fond of the leads who gobbled down the drama.
I didn't really knw what to expect when I began this drama but once I hit the play button I was a goner and wasn't one bored or disappointed.
Loved the characterization of the different characters and their back stories.
The plot twists are shocking and I didn't feel there was any loopholes.
It's really a drama to watch.

Overall the cast did well but I had some difficulties getting into it because of the second male lead (Lee Jae Yoon) who was a litt le wooden (it may be what was requested from script) but once the focus shifted to Jung Kyung-Ho, there was no dropping it. One cannot watch the show without falling for him.
The music suits perfectly the dark and sexy theme of the show.
The show is well-written and keeps you on your toes. It's a crime/action drama and it shows.
It's indeed a Cruel City in which everyone has a good side and a darker one...

A swoony romance
You Are My Glory is the story of Yu Tu a Space Engineer who -at 30 yo- is experimenting a life crisis as he's torn between staying in his field -which despite being his dream career isn't lucrative, or going into Finance. It's also the story of Qiao Jing Jing an A list star who has been embroiled in a scandal because she is not good at playing the video game she endorses and now has to prove her worth in an upcoming event.
Both of them were classmates in high school and meet again after 10 years through the video game and that's how the romance will unfold...
I wasn't expediting anything the first time I watched this drama as I didn't really know the actors but I was enthralled by the story which is simple but mature.
The characters don't have silly misunderstandings and the problems faced by the ML can resonate with many.
On one hand, 30 years old can be seen as being a crossroad, a point in which it might be the last chance for one to change the course of their career.
On another hand, with the ML's character, the drama highlights the struggle it can be to not be able to become a "good enough" provider because one doesn't work in a lucrative field.
Despite these messages, the drama stays simple and sweet. There is no love triangle or silly misunderstandings. The apparition of the exes could easily be blink and misses - their characters aim to show what the main leads don't want in their partners and what they are not ready to give up for a relationship.
The main leads' relationship is swoon worthy and sweet. I loved their banters and the way their mutual interest and relationship built steadily.
Dilraba and Yang Yang have great chemistry and I just loved watching them on screen.
Loved the OST. Especially Fireworks and Stars which became personal favourites of mine.
I give this drama a strong 10 because it's the second time I'm watching this drama and I still love it as much as the first time.
