1.Stará Bystrica Astronomical Clock
Crafted by sculptor Viliam Loviška and architect Ivan Jarina, this tremendous timber timepiece boasts an astrolabe as its centrepiece, creating one of the world’s most accurate astronomical clocks. It’s a pretty bold claim, but one that brings people from all over the world together in this ‘perfectly punctual’ setting.
3. Šikľavá skala
One of the biggest winter attractions in Slovakia. In winter the waterfall freezes and creates ice walls, columns, chandeliers... pretty much it's a little ice palace :) Fans of The Frozen should see it :D While visiting this place you have to be careful not to slip and fall, but the magical views are totally worth it.
4. Bryndzové Halušky
This hearty meal is the national dish of Slovakia, and is right up there as one of the most important of the country’s foods.
Bryndzové halušky consists of a wholesome combination of potato dumplings topped with fried bacon and sheep’s cheese.
Slovaks use a high-quality, soft, and creamy locally-produced sheep’s cheese, bryndza, in this dish. Bryndza is one of Slovakia’s most beloved cheeses, and it is very much a source of national pride.
Once the dumplings are filled with cheese, the dish is topped with sour cream, fried onion, spring onion, and crispy bacon pieces.
The dough-based version of this dish is called bryndzové pirohy, and consists of pierogi-style dumplings filled with bryndza. This version pairs delightfully well with a glass of sour sheep’s milk, žinčica, which has a tangy, fermented taste. Also look out for strapačky, which uses sauerkraut instead of sheep’s cheese.
5.Ochtinská Aragonite Cave
The cave is located in Slovak Rudohorie mountains between Roznava and Jelsava
There are only four to public accessible aragonite caves in the world - one in Mexico, the other in Argentina, third in Czech republic and the most beautiful one of them, the Ochtiná Aragonite Cave in Slovakia. Three generations of aragonite were found in the cave.
6. Velvet divorce
Slovakia shares the honour of being the 8th most recently formed country in the world with the Czech Republic. In 1993, the country of Czechoslovakia divided into these two states, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
“Velvet Divorce” – a reference to the Velvet revolution which, like the divorce named after it, was peacefully negotiated.

The dish consists of a heavily seasoned and marinated pork cutlet or chicken breast, grilled or fried, and served in a bun with mustard, caramelized onions, and sometimes hot pepper
9.Andy Warhol
The pop art master was born in Pittsburg, but his parents came from Medzilaborce, a small town in the northeastern region of Slovakia. Thanks to this, the country now houses the second-largest collection of his works in the world. Warhol (originally Warhola) never visited Slovakia but his brother helped establish the museum. It opened in 1991 and now displays 160 originals from one of the most famous creative forces of the 20th century.
