Actress Cha Chung Hwa's grand comeback to K-dramas will be Return to the Palace.
On November 5, it was officially confirmed that actress Cha Chung Hwa will be part of the cast of the upcoming historical romance K-drama Return to the Palace. The actress will portray the role of the male lead's mother in the series.
This will be the official return of Cha Chung Hwa to the K-drama scene. The actress didn't appear in any K-dramas this year after starring in several series in 2023. This year, the actress announced her pregnancy with her first child.
In 2023, Cha Chung Hwa starred in the K-dramas Kokdu: Season of Deity, See You in My 19th Life, Song of the Bandits, and My Demon. She also appeared in the film Brave Citizen.
Cha Chung Hwa is known for being part of the hit K-dramas Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, Hospital Playlist Season 2, Beyond Evil, Mr. Queen, Crash Landing on You, Hotel del Luna, The Fiery Priest, and more.
Return to the Palace will reveal the romance story of Yoon Gab, who gets possessed by an Imoogi creature, and Yeo Ri, the granddaughter of a famous shaman, who refuses her fate. After Yoon Gab becomes possessed, Yeo Ri decides to enter the palace where Yoon Gab works, and there she will encounter a lot of powerful female ghosts and evil spirits.
The K-drama will be led by BTOB's Yook Sung Jae, WJSN's Bona, Kim Ji Hoon, Kim Sang Ho, Kil Hae Yeon, and Shin Seul Ki.
In the series, Cha Chung Hwa will portray the role of Young Geum. She is the mother of Yook Sung Jae's character Yoon Gab. She resorted to desperate measures to survive with her son after being disowned by her family following her husband's death.
Director Yoon Sung Shik (Mr. Queen) and writer Yoon Soo Jung (Sassy Go Go) will work together to create the upcoming historical romance K-drama.
Return to the Palace will air in the first half of 2025 and it will exclusively premiere on SBS.
