True to the webtoon so far!!

I’m enjoying how accurate this drama is staying to the source material so far. It feels like the webtoon pages have come to life and I can’t wait for more! Sidenote: I loved the little scenes where she was telling him “stories” that were actual modern day dramas. That was cute!

cute fantasy + past lives reveal??

I really enjoyed the pace of this episode and the chemistry of the leads especially in the past lives flashbacks! I am glad that some of the past is finally revealing itself. I hope to see the entire puzzle soon, lol. Am I the only one who thought the child actors for the main leads looked very similar to them as adults? Always cute whenever that happens in a show!

a changing of the tides

WOW, what an episode. no matter what happens from here, this episode deserves a ten! the tone of "My Dearest" in the first few episodes must've confused those who weren't familiar with the screenwriter. i could tell that it was setting up for conflict and angst but i couldn't yet tell if it was going to work or not. in my opinion, it did so in a glorious way. it showed us how different people have different responses to the stress of war and trauma. the first few episodes introduced us and let us get to know the characters and their motives. it also made for the perfect background to this episode as we now can look back on those seemingly "frivolous" episodes with a sort of melancholy sorrow since we know the drama will not ever be able to get back there; every single character's life has been torn and changed from what it was in the first few episodes to now. yet... no one is behaving out of character, we are just seeing a side to them that we didn't see before the war broke out, and seeing how people respond to the tools of life laid in front of them.

Sad, Beautiful, Tragic

As sad as episode 31 was I can't get over how good the angst was at the same time. Also everyone's acting was beautiful! Even side characters, this drama has so much passion in the making of it and you can just tell. From the OST to the production to the direction, the writing, the acting, every piece of this drama has care in it. I'm heartbroken but also feeling a sense of pride at how perfectly heartbreaking the episode was, because I feel proud that everyone clearly gave it their all.

non-linear format done wonderfully

i enjoy the vibe already, the realness. i won’t address the criticisms of the main characters because it’s based off source material and also, it’s fiction guys, there have been more morally corrupt main characters. anyway, it’s each to their own! but i thought this was intriguing as a first episode and it’s serious but it’s not boring to me. so, i enjoy the art-college vibes. already the main characters oddly give me a skins (uk) vibe with the large college group but focus on main characters. i’m sure that’s a very random comparison, also, there’s no drugs in here duh, maybe i thought of skins due to the excessive cig smoking though and college setting. anyway, it’s interesting and i’m going to keep watching! i think as her first fl role (*i think) the main actress is doing very well and natural at a shy character, she’s very likable and pitiful at the same time. the editing and storytelling is very enjoyable so far. looking forward to more.

dark romance cdramas with palace intrigue are not dead!

I just want to say that this drama is PROOF that cdrama's are capable of having dark romance and angst carry a romantic love line like many older dramas they just have to be produced and acted out by the right people who know what they are doing! Thankful for this drama as it reminds me that if they wanted to, they would, lol.

slowburn crushes & vulnerability with comedic relief. so fun!

I enjoyed a lot of aspects of this episode. specifically, how we saw xiaoju as the one taking care of shiyi this time. (ALSO the scene where they are hugging, literally so cute) plus it was super adorbs to see the parallels of our main leads with their friends who are trying to push them along in their respective crushes. i just adore this drama, regardless of what some may say, it's a lot fun and comedy mixed with light angst that i find really enjoyable. or perhaps just seeing a lead couple as best friends rather than randomly being in love is just a dynamic i prefer. i think the blood phobia was also good example of how shiyi is scared to show his emotions. he hid it until he couldn't anymore. just like his crush that he doesn't want to share yet.

before this drama came into my life i missed it so bad

This is a drama that can pull of romance, fantasy, and even darker topics and yet come off as put-together with a nice flow. It is very uncommon that already by ep 3 I am absolutely whipped by a drama, but I felt it come rush at me in those last few minutes of the episode. My heart was literally pounding in my chest as I watched it unfold. PROPS to the writer bc it is not easy to fit so many tropes into one show but they are absolutely pulling it off & doing so effortlessly. I cannot wait for more.

Setting up some interesting conflict.

While this drama isn't exactly bringing anything new to the genre (so far) it is always sort of fun to see what tropes you'll unlock when starting a Xianxia drama. I think this episode was an improvement from the first one, which felt a bit disjointed. This one showed us what the characters actual goals were, and focused more on setting things up.

This drama is bringing fun romance to the table.

I love to see dramas that just embrace what they are and don’t try to add anything unnecessary. Especially in a historical. I’ll admit I am a bit biased towards korean dramas like this (because of “Mr Queen” probably) but there is something just fun to me about comedy set in what was in reality such a serious time. Anyway, love the chemistry between the leads and I hope that this drama continues being great!

this was such a cute episode

I really loved Mirae and Hyunjae’s honeymoon, that was so natural for a kdrama couple which is rare this days! I felt like they were ad-libbing it but it worked out so well. I just loved it! Something about them playing in the pool was just so cute to me. I’ll definitely remember that scene. 🥺
