SPOILERS AHEAD
20th Century Girl.I will keep this review (not so) short and i’m simply going to cut straight to the chase. This movie was good but personally i do believe that this had potential to be GREATER than just good.
First of all i want to highlight the spectacular acting delivered by the female and male lead in particular. Both were able to depict such raw and realistic emotions i felt as if i was watching the movie taking place first hand and not just through the screen. The chemistry between all the actors felt natural and genuine, none of the forced cringy friendship acting we’re normally faced with.
The visuals were good, The acting was amazing and finally, The Plot.
The plot kept me fully immersed and hoping for a memorable and powerful finale.. but i soon realized that my expectations were too high as the ending did in-fact leave me and (it seems quite a lot of people, unsatisfied).
Loopholes and unanswered questions. The ending felt rushed. The story was gradually building up and was doing so well until it all suddenly out of nowhere collapses.
.. Prior to watching the film i did see a few comments and reviews revolving around the ending of the film but i never knew what the actual ending was.
Let me start off by saying that my issue with the ending isn’t the ML passing away. - I had a hunch it was coming when the FL was at the telephone box and said something along the lines of “you’re better off dead to me” in regards to the ML. I knew then it was a foreshadowing method used by the director and it just made sense.
My problem is how sloppily they executed the MLs death. No backstory on how he passed or why he passed. Surely the ML’s best friend was close enough to his family to know that he had passed on and FL would’ve found out sooner no?
Also somewhere near the end of the film we see an old video recording of FL in her high school days talking about how she hopes her parents are well and how she hopes her brother is grown well. They showed the parents but didn’t show Ba-Da (the brother).
And not to mention MLs brother appearing out of the blue, it seems as if they just spontaneously threw him in and called it a day. I had to pause and scan him for a good minute as i did NOT know who i was looking at. Everything about the ending scenes felt unrealistic and rushed.
There are a few more things but these are my main issues with this film.

Okay there’s a lot to unpack with this drama. On the first two episodes, i was low key rooting for FL and had hope she wouldn’t ruin it by acting overly-cringey. But as soon as we hit the third episode i realized i had too much hope as it all went downhill, she just kept rambling and it seemed as if she couldn’t stand up for herself anymore. I just don’t get what the obsession is with producers and making female leads always act innocent and “weak”. Like come on now… she’s about 25 years old doesn't know what a kiss looks like.. Kanata’s character overall annoyed me.. he treated FL like dirt for no reason at the start until he started devolving feelings and then he started up AGAIN for absolutely no reason towards the end..
Aside from all that, the plot was really interesting and well laid out and the cinematography WHEEEWWW 10/10! it added so much. A few things were dragged out and unnecessary but other than that i surprisingly enjoyed this drama even though there were definitely some predictable points.

okay drama.
Your typical toxic ML falls for the “innocent” FL.. (you know the drill) Ok plot however, some parts just felt dragged out and rushed. Especially the part when Hara becomes Yukino’s manager. It felt unrealistic and just over all unnecessary. I feel a LOT more could’ve been done with this drama to make it a little bit more interesting but yeah..I wasn’t exactly sitting on the edge of my seat for this drama and i wasn’t reeled in either as i already knew what would happen next. I wouldn’t recommend watching unless you’re into overly predictable, cliché dramas.
The cast was good but i HATED how the second ML (Kagami) just didn’t fit in at all. He looked like an abnormally large creepy high schooler with his backpack just looming over everyone. And don’t get me started on the wig.. Every time he came on screen i couldn’t help but cringe not only at him but the acting too. He just wasn’t meant for this show.

Dry Drama
Alrighttt… i stumbled across this drama while scrolling through Dramacool and i cant lie, when i first read the synopsis i was quite interested, the plot was simple yet intriguing . Although i have not yet finished all of it, five episodes in and i’m already disappointed..Right off the bat the first thing i noticed was the STALE acting which completely threw me off. Especially talking about the boss guy and Aiko. I understand that they both have a few cheesy lines but sadly neither one of them are able to pull it off. Every time they appear on the damn screen everything feels uncomfortably forced… WHERE IS THE EMOTION?!? so far absolutely nothing is being brought to the table.
The drama is moving so fast yet so slow, i’d say about 80% of the 5 episodes i’ve seen has just been Aiko and that darn manager.. As of yet, all i’ve seen is an unrealistic dragged out mess and i’m not impressed. Hopefully the next few episodes will give what it’s supposed to but so far it’s not looking good. I do not suggest watching unless you’re looking for something that is overly predictable and to cringe at (Review to be continued)
