Toxic Relationships are SOOO Cool :P
I hope you caught on to the sarcasm. The actors' chemistry was wasted here. Tharn and Type are way too toxic to each other. Type has unresolved trauma and Tharn continued to force his way in and play head games after Type let him know. That is wrong on so many levels. Tharn is a manipulative "nice guy," the type of person who feels entitled to their crush's affections. Type was a hateful bigot, but it was due to childhood trauma that needed to be addressed with professional help. At his core, he is a good person. Type was still too rude, and I didn't like him at first, but I could at least understand where the anger came from.
Idk if people are just going "KYAHH! GAY. Mew! Gulf! I likey!!!!!" or if they're really unable to see how bad of a relationship this is or both. I am disappointed that a highly liked/rated show features a lead couple with twisted beginnings and behaviors in a positive light. There are movies like A Frozen Flower and stories like Killing Stalking which feature some bad relationships, but the writers do not romanticize anything and allow consumers to examine each character's mindset. TharnType promotes forced partnership and bad/illegal behavior. I was enjoying shows like Gameboys, A Tale of a Thousand Stars, and Manner of Death before coming here. Those three shows aren't perfect, but they are nothing crazy like the main relationship in TharnType. I'm just glad TharnType was not my introduction to BL dramas.
Idk if this is considered a mild spoiler since it's a trope in so many BL shows, and the lead pair is known since episode one, but I'll warn you anyway:
I really wish Tharn and Type's relationship started off like the one with Type and the girlfriend. They're so pure and cute together. Idk why the author/writer decided a toxic relationship was the way to go. Maybe she saw how well Twilight did? I mean, she's laughing her way to the bank right now, but it boggles my mind that enough people found this stuff acceptable such that the show is rated above an 8 on MDL and even on IMDb. Fortunately, it looks like many of us aren't blind and are making it known that we want healthy LGBTQ+ shows.
