An engaging, captivating, heartwarming story that takes you on emotional rollercoasters
Loved the interactions between Cheng Xiaoshi, Lu Guang, and Qiao Ling. The acting of the cast overall is decent at worst, so I have no complaints there. As someone who's watched S1 of the donghua, I can say I was pleasantly surprised by how they took the live action. It does not follow the same plot exactly, but it has similar premises, and I enjoyed the way they took the story. The different arcs all played their part in building the overall story up, including engaging characters that would mostly just show up in those episodes. The complexity behind the cases and the greyness of human nature was definitely touched upon, which I am grateful for. As they journeyed through the cases, there was a lot of character development and thought provoking actions. This show definitely took my emotions for a ride, to the point that I had to stop binge watching during some of the heavy moments. I appreciate the depth they were willing to go!The lack of good English subs is such a bummer though, but using Chinese subs with google translate is a feasible option :')
*[Thoughts on ending, possibly slight spoilers]*
I do wish they had more closure for where the side characters ended up, but it wasn't necessary I guess. They did close cases in a satisfactory way, but it'd be nice to see them again after some time! They also ended the show in a way that leaves a possibility for another season if that's where they want to take it, which is exciting, but if it doesn't happen, it doesn't feel like a cliffhanger either. Overall a great watch and I don't know why ratings are still relatively low.
