Mixed Emotions
Spoilers!
I never write reviews for dramas but this one really made me want to so.. here are some of my thoughts!
I think the overall story is cute. Would I watch this again? Probably not. Is the story terrible? Not at all! I just think certain parts of the plot could be improved upon. To be honest, a part of me was hoping for it to be a psychological horror or something of the sort. I knew it wouldn't be but I definitely would've enjoyed the show more/found it to be more interesting lol!
As for the characters :
While the characters are likable, I think they lack depth. I think it would've been nice for them to give Shi Lei more interests? Or anything that would've made his character less..bland? Like even a few posters in his room to indicate his music taste could've helped. Also, while this is a personal pet peeve of mind, I need to rant about it. I cannot stand it when the apartments or houses of characters are a. empty or b. too perfect looking. I have lived with men for my entire life and I have been to the apartments of men and believe me when I tell you that the insides of these men's apartments were not neat. Men are messy, women are messy, and as long as you have a live-in maid or you LOVE cleaning, your place of living won't be spotless. Now I'm not saying that Shi Lei and Jin Yu's apartment should've been filthy, but the least they could've done was add some clutter. Maybe like a cereal box on the counter or a stray sock. Something to make the apartment look lived in. I love watching shows and feeling like the characters are living breathing humans that do human things, and with this show, I just didn't get that feeling entirely. I'm aware I'm probably being overly picky but it just disappointed me and I feel like I wasted my time almost T_T.
Everything else :
I love slow burn! I think it's great. But this just felt less like a slow burn and more like them dragging it out. Every time you think something exciting is going to happen, nothing does. I feel like they had many opportunities to add extra scenes so you could get a better feel for the characters and their personalities, and they just. didn't. I don't know. I'm not good at writing reviews (if you couldn't already tell) but YEAHHH lol. There were some really cool scenes in this show, but during most of the scenes I felt utterly bored.
Onto Jin's relationship back story, to be honest I found this kind of funny. I don't know how to describe exactly why I found it so amusing other than it seemed childish and just very Basic. I think they could've come up with something better or most *interesting*. They didn't seem or feel like a real couple. I was definitely expecting something more..dramatic? It just didn't seem like enough a reason to ban anyone from being married or dating in the workplace. Also the way Jin got his scars is just kind of funny IOEFJGIOBRNJKDFK like running out in front of a car? If I had a penny for every time I've seen that in a show then I'd have enough money to buy the rights to this show, make a season 2, and give the characters actual depth and interesting qualities. At first I though he got the scars from self harming, then from him driving drunk, and then I found out they were from him running in front of a car like i. GIRL WHAT?
(something else I wanted to include -- i think the actors did an AMAZING job and though i was bored at some parts, the acting was great and i think it's awesome they were able to take a lousyish script and make it better !!!)
anyway that was my terrible review! I hope you enjoyed reading. Maybe one day I'll have the ability to express my thoughts in a coherent way
