All I read is that Season 2 is a remake of Season 1, only better. That seems kinda true, but only on the surface. During the first couple episodes, I actually thought I was watching Fei Fei's TV rendition of the love affair between Mumu and the tall dude. I don't think they did a particularly good job of that, but I think they may have started out with that intent. This gave them an opportunity to fix a couple things:
Mumu dressed waaaay sexier in Season 2. I think this was the writers recognizing that the western audience needs to see more skin. I for one am thankful. I captured several screen shots from season 2.
Mumu's personality is more fierce in Season 2, and, given that she seems to have had more time to develop herself as an actress and as an independent woman, she just seems so much more confident and...adult-like than in season 1.
The kisses in Season 2 were made for western TV, whereas in Season 1, the kisses are more like poses. Two people standing with their lips touching, but not moving...AT ALL. This is standard fare on Chinese and South Korean dramas that I think is changing in front of our very eyes over netflix. I don't mind one bit that Eastern dramas are more reserved over the sexy stuff. I suppose I am a weird American for not really caring to see human beings simulate sexual acts. I like the fact that more is left to the imagination in the Chinese and South Korean shows.
Fei Fei seems to have been as disgusted by the Tall dude's Leukemia scheme as all of us were, so she softened that aspect to give us a chance to like him. Didn't work for me because I am hopelessly in love with Mumu.
Yes, the bad guys were worse in Season 2, but they were so bad in Season 1 that it didn't make much difference. I am sorry to say this to two entire nations, but South Korea and China: You folks are really bad at bad guys. Really bad. So I expected that.
In short, Season 2 was the cast realizing how much the camera loves Mumu. It really wouldn't matter much what the plot is. What matters is that she is on screen sharing her gift for making folks love her. Her naive optimism, self-confidence, and beauty make for a package I would watch regardless of the plot. Her character is wonderful, and that is what is great about this show, in both seasons. Mumu.
