Lighthearted with deep meaning

The storyline is pretty simple. It revolves around Wu Xiao Xue, an art enthusiast since she was a kid, and how she slowly regains herself after an unfortunate event that took place during her childhood. I would say this is like a Disney Rom-Com. It is cute, and has a clear message. I thought it was good in terms of getting the story and message out there. Another plus is the cute interactions between Wu Xiao Xue and her elf friend. Only thing is it was too short to try and condense everything together. I could see this story put into a 16 episode drama rather than a movie. Wu Ying Jie also improved much on her acting. I hope she gets more acting projects this year.

Rollercoaster of Events

To Dear Myself is not a feel - good drama. The storyline revolves around the materialistic and societal struggles for six individuals. And in my opinion, is quite realistic as there is no such thing as a perfect life. The first few episodes portrayed success and happiness, and we see right off the bat each character's personality, background, and love interests. As the drama progressed, we start to see external and internal problems developing; creating a rollercoaster of events.

Prideful and selfish. All the characters in this drama had these two traits, which is probably a reason for their downfalls. There were many scenes of annoyance regarding decisions and actions made that as a viewer, you can't help but judge. But this is how you know the actresses and actors are great in their performances. I must say, Wang Zi Ru played by Che Xiao really really irked me. But in a drama like this, you need that strong antagonist character and Che Xiao did a great job. I also found it quite hard to sympathize Chen Yi Ming throughout the drama due to the way he handled everything. His lack of confidence remained until the very end of the drama and that was just tiring to watch. Out of all the characters, Zhang Zhi Zhi surprised me the most with her character development after going through what she did in the drama. It was refreshing and relieving. I enjoyed the strong sense of female independence and loved the friendship between Li Si Yu, Zhang Zhi Zhi, and Gu Xiao Ling. They have each other's backs and continuously gave support when needed.

Overall, this is a one time watch drama for me (until I have nothing else to watch). I neither liked nor disliked the ending. It was just a fitting end. There were lots of unnecessary frustrations and it takes a lot of effort to accept some of the decisions made by the characters. If you like this kind of story development, I recommend Nothing But Thirty, Love Yourself, and Ode to Joy.

Disregard the Age Differences

Legend of Fei is a Wuxia drama that has its fair share of action and romance. Because this is an adapted drama on "Bandits" by Priest, the storyline evolves around Zhou Fei and her development/ swordsmanship (I have not read "Bandits", so I don't know if the drama and the novel are exactly the same). That being said, I loved how there is a strong female lead with martial skills exceeding that of the male lead; in which many Wuxia dramas do not have...it's a nice change. I also liked how the supporting characters had their own story and purpose in the drama. Without them, the storyline wouldn't have flowed as well as it did. Moving to what I disliked... the voice dub was just unfitting for some of the characters, especially for Zhou Fei. I know Zhou Fei is suppose to be a teenager, but her voice just didn't fit Zhou Fei's personality... if that makes sense. Also, 51 episodes is a lot and most Wuxia dramas have complicated storylines, so you'd really need to pay attention when watching and don't skip episodes. You'll miss a key understanding if you do. Overall, this is a well produced Wuxia drama, that I would definitely rewatch.

To those that worry about the age gap between Zhao Liying and Wang Yibo, it really isn't noticeable unless you continuously point it out as you watch. The chemistry between the two have been on point from beginning to the end and that made the drama really enjoyable. At certain angles you can probably tell that Zhao Liying has aged, but her performance is still superb and she portrayed Zhou Fei flawlessly. Wang Yibo also performed exceptionally well, given that this is his second Wuxia drama (after The Untamed, a Xianxa drama). His character in Legend of Fei is so different from his character in The Untamed, that you really can't help but praise him.
