Shot in the magical Hokkaido, Japan, Moonlit Winter reflects the beautiful yet sad lives of middle-aged queers. The story revolves around a young high school girl who read a letter from her mother's first love. It's a subtle film, but director Im Dae Hyung perfectly captures the feelings of each character, in particular, with Yoonhee's desire to meet her first love after 20 years. The ending may leave someone wondering what happened to them, but this ending also shows the reality that many middle-aged LGBT is facing in the modern age. Moonlit Winter is one of South Korea's finest independent films and is a must-watch.
