Wow, it's been ages since I've properly watched a J-drama. Slowly switching to K-dramas as time went by felt natural – just like growing up and leaving your hometown to pursue your dreams. :D Then one day I stumbled upon a youtube vid featuring the main leads of this drama – that's when I knew I MUST give it a chance. And – wow, it actually exceeded my expectations. The whole story made me feel nostalgic, returning home after a long adventure. Everything is so familiar, yet freshly polished. The characters are endearing and their interactions are always very pleasant to watch (well, maybe except for the second couple with Tendo's sister – that one made me cringe all the time LOL).
Although the drama is fully packed with romantic cliches, they are well balanced, and the "drama" is never dragged enough to make you force yourself to watch further. Most of the usual plot sequences ended very pleasantly and I couldn't help but smile (and replay those awesome romantic scenes OVER AND OVER) :D You shouldn't expect any heavy medical material – the guys keep it light and simple. Which definitely has its perks.
Being clumsy at first, Sakura gradually grew on her strong points – careful attention to detail and immense care for patients. I did feel a little disappointed with her insecurity and indecisiveness at moments where I expected her to persevere and fight for Tendo's heart. But other than that, thanks to her friends and straight-forward nature, she handled her love adventures pretty well. :) I'm extremely thankful that she spoke her mind to Tendo, letting him know of her struggles and worries most of the time, instead of bottling them up and sulking.
But of course my heart was STOLEN by Tendo-sensei. Satoh Takeru is so MESMERIZING in this role that it hurts to stop watching. He's a bit of a tsundere (oh those sweet "BAKA" scenes) but essentially keeps his feelings and emotions to himself for actually valid reasons. Still, he loves his job and sincerely cares for his patients. And most importantly, he never gives Sakura any unreasonable silent treatment. I just LOVE how he noticed whenever Sakura was worried about something stupid and made sure to clear up any misunderstandings by either speaking his mind clearly (that sofa scene is one of my favorites...) or showing some action (you know). ;D I think his character is just so perfectly balanced. And those rare smiles he gives... *dies* The only thing that might not sit well with you is how he actually fell in love with the girl, LOL. But in the end it feels pretty natural.
The main leads ended up completing each other and helping one another overcome their challenges. So I love how it turned out. :) And their chemistry is off charts, by the way!
Supporting characters are all very well cast, truly funny and you won't easily forget them. Together they create this simple but cute story that won't get you bored thanks to all the butterflies. <3 And last but not least, THE OST WAS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL.
Well, in short, I RECOMMEND this drama if you're looking for an extremely sweet, light and cute love story (Satoh Takeru is a huge bonus of course). Binge-watching this drama was my best decision in weeks! I hope you make yours too. :D Ittadakimasu!
P.S. I also suddenly realized how much love the small messages this drama conveys: that we should accept the fact that one day we will all die and live our lives freely. That we should not try to strictly divide our lives into "love" and "work", but rather "enjoy the everyday chaos". :) And of course, it reminds us that each one of us struggles through life in different ways, but we should not give up – instead, we must fight for our dreams and stay positive whatever happens!
Good luck to you all!
