If you like France, it’s worth a look.
So this show is 50 episodes. Be prepared. I enjoyed the first half, but once they left France, the story really really dragged.
First off, I never could understand why the father decided to steal his son’s work. It really wasn’t ever clearly explained. And he was willing to even commit murder to make it happen. The murder was left unresolved and basically never investigated in France. And once the murderer died, well that part of the plot just never came back.
The timeline was also very confusing. So I guess they were in France for a year and then Zhou was lost for a while and then they were in China, but then at the end Zhou mentions it’s been 3.5 years since he met Nanen. That both seemed too long and too short. I’m not sure the writers knew what they wanted.
The second leads drove me crazy. Zu Ma was annoying, but was actually pretty decent once she got on with Nanen’s brother. But of course she had to end up with her first beau... and they just did not work together as a couple. They were much better off as individuals. Vivienne was a whole other case of awful.
I liked the actors. I loved the idea of them all working to a clear goal together for the betterment of the environment. I really enjoyed that the first half was set in France (and it appeared to have actually been filmed there.) But the story itself and the characters were a bit all over the place and I found myself not liking all of them for things like lacking basic communication skills. And the story at times just didn’t make sense to me. I couldn’t ever figure out why a lot of the things happened. And as cute as the leads are, they don’t actually spend very much time together.
