My Sister, The Pig Lady

Had this movie stuck to the initial premise -- a small town with one marriageable man and three single women, vying for his affections -- it would have been solid if not actually good. It just needed focus, either on the plot OR on the characters! Everyone was underdeveloped and they could even have used tropes more effectively. I think the first act could have easily been extended into the whole film (minus the pregnancy, because that just makes for unsatisfying plotting).
I have no problem with many of the component parts (acting, setting, music, etc.) but the plot completely went off the rails. Also there are some odd time jumps, one of which has an intertitle/subtitle and the other times you just have to figure it out. If you're going to have a movie that's all over the place, at least make it competently so the audience can logically follow the timeline.

Meh.
I’m split on whether I like this more than the original. I like that it the cast and story are aged up a bit and some of the storylines have changed for the better. In this one I felt the relationship and chemistry develop between Do-Hyun and Song-Yi, but I’m also partial because I like this casting of Do-Hyun a billion percent more.I hated the casting and plot of Ga-Rin in this version. That character was much more nuanced and interesting in the original. Hoon is also a lot better in the original too. Funnier, less cloying.
Oh and Se-Hyun was the WORST in this one. Ugh she sucks.

I can't believe I waited so long to drop this series. There are SO MANY PROBLEMS. In fact the entire premise of the drama is incredibly problematic: a psychologist conducts an experiment on a woman, manipulating her emotions and lying to her, with the end goal to make her fall in love and the yank the rug out from under her. The main male character continuously lies to her, and we get his inner monologue so you know he knows he's leading her astray, making her doubt things she saw with her own eyes and information she knows to be true. The casual portrayal of gaslighting and psychological relationship abuse is deeply problematic. Not to mention that his experiment is completely unethical (that he would be a participant) and the design is preposterous. I'm not saying this kind of experiment could ever be well designed, but with a few tweaks it could be less absurdly stupid. Not only that, but in the end she has to save him! He is the abuser! There is no world in which his conduct is excusable.Initially I expected this to be a fun drama about two people who try and help people, one with therapy and with fake fortune telling. Her fortune telling is dropped almost instantly! There are a lot of similarities in those professions and I think playing with that tension could have made for an excellent opposites attract plot. I have no idea why they would stray into such asinine and upsetting territory instead of using the rich weird characters they created.
