I will never get these hours back.

As the title and review score implies, I was not a fan of this drama. I walked into it knowing it would not live up to the C Drama and that was okay, I had just finished up watching True Beauty and wanted to just watch this quickly.

If I could go back in time and tell myself to do literally anything else I would have. The characters in this drama are about as one-dimensional as they come, and almost all of the plot lines resolve themselves within the episode. I understand that that's basically like the formula that the show is going for being more serialized than your typical drama but it makes it unfortunate when plot lines that are kind of interesting (like the substance plot line) get resolved basically off-screen. My biggest grievance with the show is honestly the romances. The second-main lead trope is here and its incredibly cliched. I don't fault the show for that since the cliche is a cliche for a reason and some shows can still do it well. This show doesn't even try to add nuance to the characters and therefore they all just come off as pretty bland. The main male lead literally makes no sense, the show gives you the premise that the main female lead has liked him for as long as she can remember and he just doesn't acknowledge her advances. However its clear from episode 1 that not only does he acknowledge them but he also likes her back because the moment the second main lead comes into the picture he is visually jealous. He is also a member of their friend group so it makes no sense why he would be so standoffish to her besides just to further the plot. This however is not the romance that I have an issue with.

It's the cliche side characters getting together. For starters the idea that one of the characters has a crush on the nurse and then everyone just acknowledges it and no one addresses how its odd is kind of weird but okay whatever. The trope where the one friend is falling for the other character but the other character basically rejects him at every chance is here and at first its harmless and even though you can tell where it's going you don't mind. That is until they just jump the gun and go from "oh my she likes the nurse and not me?" to "you can tell people I'm your girlfriend" with literally no character development to warrant this change. The whole plot line of him going to the hospital makes no sense because they don't imply that anything actually happened to him physically other than him being sad about her falling for the nurse but that doesn't warrant him being in a hospital especially for as long as he is. Overall the moment she said that I had a physical gag reflex as it just felt so forced that it made me feel uncomfortable. It didn't help that the very same episode is when the two main leads get together. Therefore we were left with 6 episodes of no real plot which of course just means its gonna fast forward through random moments in their lives with arbitrary plot lines being thrown in for suspense (like him leaving to the US and coming back or what not).

Honestly I was gonna give this show like a 6.5/10 since it suffers the same faults as the other show in the same "series" whose name is blanking on me but it was a chinese drama with a physics guy. But their chemistry was actually nice and made the show worth watching, this felt like watching cardboard fall for each other and the two side characters rushed (I use rushed lightly as its more like they were just rammed into the romance) made it almost impossible to finish the show let alone recommend it.

tldr: don't watch it if you value your time. Unless you really like Kim Yo Han or something which in that case, stream WEI songs or something its a better use of your time.

Tears.. Lots and Lots of Tears

So much crying. To be fair when I was first watching the trailer for this drama I wasn't sure if I had just zoned out and misunderstood what I was listening to but I thought that this drama was different from what it actually ended up being and because of that I was incredibly confused watching the first episode.

The drama is pretty good. You grow attached to a lot of the characters even the ones that I was unsure if they were even gonna show up for more than one episode. I liked watching the story play out and seeing how it takes a toll on each character emotionally and mentally. Although a lot of the reactions are not necessarily unexpected it is still nice to see it play out and share that experience with the characters. One of the characters that I was not expecting to actually feel bad for was the step mom. One of the moments where I realized that I genuinely felt for the character was near the end where she finds out that Cha Yu Ri was actually alive and you could tell that she was feeling bad for what she would only describe as taking her husband and child from her. However no one else saw it this way because they know, as well as the viewer, that thats not how it played out at all. So as all the characters are apologizing to her because they feel bad for not telling her the truth before but also because they understand what she might be feeling given the information. I truly felt bad for the character in that situation.

I'm terrible at writing reviews so I don't have any nuanced closing statement so I will put in my one "gripe" with the show which is arguably not really all that bad but is something I have to mention. There is a lot of crying in this show. Like I knew this show was gonna be sad, but wow I don't think I have ever experienced a drama where at every episode there was going to be a scene where one or more characters were going to be crying to their hearts content. It was to the point where I could imagine that they had to make sure these actors and actresses were properly hydrated considering the amount of tears that would be rolling down their faces at any given moment. I for one as a viewer am all for sad and emotional dramas. I consider myself an emotional person in the sense where I am more than happy to cry tears of joy or sadness while consuming media. I'm not one who does it often but when I do it means that whatever I was watching was pretty good and so it heavily skews the way I personally grade shows. That being said this was the first time that I felt that I couldn't even cry even if I wanted to because of just how exhausted I was from all the crying I had done watching this show. It also doesn't help that I was watching this show in the span of like 3-4 days, I feel like if I had watched this weekly maybe I would have felt differently. The show is really sad though and a lot of the scenes where characters are crying are justified and don't feel forced, its just that I don't think my body had it in me to cry anymore. This gripe I had with the show is hardly a criticism for the show and it was more just something I couldn't write a review without mentioning.

tldr: very sad, very enjoyable show but expect tears, like a lot, like get some water so you don't pass out from dehydration bc you cried so much a lot.

also my rewatch score is low mostly because I don't like re-watching shows

One of the most fun to watch romance dramas

This is my first review and I'm going to keep it brief and to the point , the main leads were incredibly likable, at least the main guy was. Going into this drama I expected him to be the stereotypical genius who had little to no social skills and therefore was going to have a bunch of awkward antics and the romance was going to somehow blossom from that. Although he does end up exhibiting some of those quirks, for the most part the main lead was very much a social and likable character and he just oozed charm through his actions. His actions had motives that felt genuine, and maybe I was just starting to get fatigued by main leads who go out of their way to do stuff to seem charming, but I definitely could imagine why someone would begin to fall for a guy like him. My review is going to be mainly focused on him because well, the show doesn't really do a whole much else.

The main female lead is also pretty good in her role, her plot (like much of the drama which I will get to later) doesn't really do much for the overall drama however she has good chemistry with the main lead. I don't want to sound like im underplaying her performance because as a character they just played well of each other and you can really experience how the main lead falls for her (sorry for referring to them by their leads I'm terrible when it comes to names for characters in dramas)

My only gripe with this drama which is the reason why I wouldn't be able to put it any higher than maybe like an 8(?) (the only reason i didn't is because I've given more involved dramas an 8 and it wouldn't seem fair) was because of the lack of a real plot to carry the story. This is where I go into spoiler-y territory so I'll just put this here, If you want to see a nice couple fall in love and be cute and stuff and make you regret being single then yeah go for it have fun you won't regret it. However if you want some nice plot to be resolved and to see the characters face something outside of their love for one another then I'm hard pressed to recommend it.

its on netflix so its an easy binge :)

spoilers from here on out

There really isn't much to spoil as I said there really isn't a plot but this becomes incredibly apparent after the main couple get together, this isn't helped by the fact that I'm used to watching dramas that are like 14-16 episodes long and they usually won't even have their first kiss until like episode 9 or something and by then the main plot is in full swing. At around episode 10-13 or so the main two leads are already dating and with half the show left, the drama becomes very transparent about its lack of urgency in creating a reason for the show to keep going. I may be exaggerating when I say there isn't any plot but in terms of a major plot there really is not one and the show just kinda ends after they graduate and get married. For this reason the show leaves you with a sense of "huh okay i guess?" As nice as it was to see the main leads get together and be cute you don't really get anything else out of it and it just makes the show feel more of a time waster. However if you don't care about that and are just looking for some nice chemistry and romance (which I was after watching a few eps of a drama where the main lead were really good looking but my god did they have like zero chemistry) then this will fill the void.

okay cool thanks :)
