Only good for it's cast?
When starting a new drama I usually go in expecting nothing because the drama ends up being more impressive without expectations and gives me a lot to drool over. But this drama gave me nothing. The twists were expected, the storyline was boring and the characters were less than likable, a big problem because there are so many. It tries to do way more than what it has time for. Just barely exploring the plot points it brings up. Details are just flat out told to viewers via character dialogue/flashbacks (there are so many flashbacks). I wanna see some action not storylines handfed to me. I don't know who the director is but I would avoid future dramas shot by this person seeing how bad and bland the shots were. At times the camera cuts to this first person shaky frame which is so unflattering. As for acting, I think everybody did their best with what was given to them. Though, I did find Kang Sol A's acting way over the top. No show stealers here though. There's a lot of screaming (thank you old office man who has zero significance to the plot), this show seems to think loud equals funny or emotional. You're not delivering anything, just hurting my ears. I can't handle the morally righteousness of the main characters. The one character that strays from that; Sungjae is given the bare minimum. There being so many characters is the downfall of this show. You can't establish an emotional connection with them because of the lack of deep diving characters are supposed to be given. So at the end I don't care about who gets to be happy, I just want the show to be over.
As for music, there are only 3 songs here. It gets really old really fast. It's annoying that the songs come on and basically tell you hey this scene is supposed to be emotional, hey this scene is supposed to be suspenseful, and oh hey look the characters are studying. It's annoying when the emotional music comes on and you're not even moved by the scene. You're stuck there cringing because what the characters said wasn't deep at all and here plays th-We are We are Where are we? We are We are.
With all that said, I don't like this drama, I feel like I wasted my time and was blinded by an all star cast. I would still recommend you watch it, it might be your cup of lukewarm tea. But there are way better dramas out there, enjoy watching.

Gold Mine Drama
This is the drama I've been waiting for. Packed with action, drama, karma, twist and turns The Devil Judge is how a drama should be done. I usually stay clear of law dramas for they're usually boring with the clique young lawyer male lead breaks the laws OoO shocking~. With a more mature cast (Kang Yohan being in his early 40s) you get a really rich back story complete with Kim Ga On getting his morals gob smacked by reality. One thing I like about the story is the way everything just connects back. Nothing is done for no reason. What each character is given by is clearly established. The acting in this is so good. Each actor fills their character perfectly, you get a feel for what type of person they are the moment they appear on screen. Jisung is extremely charming as the somewhat sociopathic devil judge and Jin Young is just such a smooth actor. His scenes were he's just conversating with the people around him isn't boring and you get a sense of warmness from him (perfect fill in for Isaac [a dad and a brother]). But his emotional scenes are what sells him as no doubt an amazing actor. He portrays pain and frustration so well contrasting to Ga On's everyday warmness. It makes the audience really sympathize with him. Kim Min Jung plays Sun Ah so well. You could tell that Sun Ah is someone who likes glamorous things but wasn't born fortunate enough to enjoy it just by her body language. She has such an intense stare extremely fitting for her character.
The music is such a key aspect to a drama and this drama really utilizes that. It sets a mood and illustrates the total chaos and madness going on in the dystopian world. Not only that, it's a total bop. I'm gonna be adding the track to my favorites.
If you haven't watched The Devil Judge, give it a try. It's worth every second of your time.

Throwback to when it was ok to kidnap people
This is the drama you watch and go "ahh the 2008/9s". Story telling standard has come a long way since then and I could see how people say it's over rated. But it was something so amazing at the time, literally everyone's dream to get entangled with the most popular guys at school. And get completely spoiled by a rich life style. Nowadays, you could do a lot of those things even if you're not filthy rich like Gu Junpyo. So, I see why people are unimpressed. This drama is still very popular, but rides on nostalgia. A lot of the concepts are ridiculous like Jandi getting conveniently saved every time. And everyone calling her a lotus or whatever. Of course things are outrageously blown up to max for k-dramas, but this drama has everything. So many things happened I'm pretty sure I went through 3-4 life times watching it.I think the casting was perfect appearance wise. As for the acting. It was really cringey a lot of the time, these actors were still young so I'll cut them some slack. Especially with every one screaming "EP POR DA (IT'S F4)". Don't get me started on Mr. Seo Yijung. He owns the word cringe at this point. Here's a compilation of his best cringe dialogue I found on YouTube https://youtu.be/ppjARlxbybk
I will never forget his line in the first episode "Your delicious looking hands" wtf O-O
Back then they didn't have the best mics so the audio blew up so when ever the characters raised their voice, and they scream A LOT.
I love the music, it's so good. People complain about only some of the songs standing out, but a good series doesn't need a plethora of chart toping songs to be good. The second "Almost Paradise" comes on people are already breaking into song. And that's the magic of a good ass OST. Most of Asia knows that song just like how most of the world knows Titanic's "My Heart Will Go On".
Over all, BOF is a good watch when you want to go on an all in one k-drama experience. Corny, cringey, and sometimes even bad acting, but so good. It's like junk food. So bad yet so good.
