This drama was one of the very first dramas I watched, and I've re-watched it several times. To be honest, and fair, many of the usual tropes used in romantic comedies (k-dramas) are present in this drama. You have the blubbering female lead who gets taken advantage of, the rich and selfish male leads, crazy exes, backstabbing friends, and controlling parents. Plus, the story moves a little slowly at first. But there are so many things to love about this drama.
The first thing I liked about this show was the characters. All of the characters were complex and had realistic motivations. And they were all portrayed pretty well. Wang Ji Hye is one of my favorite villainous actresses and she shone in this drama (at least, she did in my opinion). I hated her character immensely, and not because she was annoying. Park Gae In was somewhat annoying, in traditional k-drama lead girl fashion, but her character arc was very compelling. I loved how the writers didn't change her character or personality throughout the series, sending a message that she was lovable because of who she was, not in spite of who she was. Han Chan Ryul was also one of my favorite characters. At first, I wanted to hate him, but as the story unfolded, the writers showed how otherwise decent people can be pressured into making terrible choices.
The music for the show was pretty good (considering when it aired). The songs are all really catchy, and they remain some of my favorite songs, even to this day.
If you want a cute, funny rom-com that doesn't turn dark or depressing, this is it. It has just enough drama to not be ridiculous, but it's a sweet drama that's fun to watch.
