Not the best but not the worst

I came into this universe accidently and decided to checkout all the parts. Basically this show is part of the Juthathep brothers universe. A story of 5 brothers finding lover everywhere except there arranged marriage partners (5 parts released in 2013 one for each brother) and now the same universe is extended with the sons of these brother being the main leads. And while I have read only good reviews about the older series I decided to start with these new ones and in the order they are made starting with Laorchan first.

As the first introduction to the universe, it is not bad. And since I read that it gets better in latter parts, I decided to stick around. It is quite watchable even without knowing about the whole parent's lore but I guess you do miss out of some references and callbacks.
Story: As a single standing series the story of the show was pretty engaging. The whole rebellion plot and the arc of the off road adventure was enjoyable and I looked forward to see the conclusion. The base of the story is a classic one lead trying to deceive the other for personal reasons but accidently falling in love and its done nicely. Although towards the end the arc of the FL trying to do something for her family/find her family became a bit redundant. Some of the side characters had pretty nice arcs - like the crown prince learning about the condition of the people in the countryside.

Acting and chemistry: I think all the actors did a pretty good job. It was not exceptional but they did well with the material they were provided. They delivered their emotions well (Gulf in episode 7). In terms of chemistry, I felt that the main leads did not have a lot of chemistry however that was more due to the script than the actors. The FL was getting close to the ML for her personal agenda but the ML just fell head over heels for her and we are supposed to believe that even though the FL means business, she cant help but feel something for the ML. However, the FL had this 'game face on' throughout the first half of the show (when they are actually supposed to get close/build a relationship). She always showed more emotions for the SML. This made it difficult to believe that the leads had this 'deep' connection that they would follow each other to the ends of the world. I wish we could have seen some moments where she was doubting the whole plan just because she didn't want the ML to feel hurt. Other than that, the two side couples were absolutely adorable, to the point that I want to see more of their stories. Colonel Wachira being an absolute golden retriever in Kan's presence was the cutest.

The setting and cinematography: The show seems to be set somewhere in the late 80s and the setting does feel retro but it doesn't hit you with that nostalgic feels. If I pick a random frame from anywhere in the show, I would not be able to immediately guess where it is set. While it doesn't feel too much out of place, I believe some more work of the set would have made the show much better.

Overall: While it is not a masterpiece, you would not regret wasting your time on this show. It lacks on many fronts but the endearing family connections make up for some of it.
