I have some mixed feelings about this series. At the beginning I was kinda obsessed with it and I used to laugh so hard that I thought Tonhoncholatee would become one of my fav BLs. Well it didn't. But I'm not that mad with the series overall.
First things first: Tonhon is not that homophobic on the novel (i didn't read the novel, but I watched a YouTube video from a girl who had and pointed out the differences between the novel and the series) and I don't know why they made him that way if in the end they also threw the "i was in love with you since ever" bs. I actually didn't buy the "one-sided love since we were child" story tonhon told Chon at the end. I didn't also understand what this story has anything to do with the fact Ton kissed Amp just to prove a pointless point. I still don't understand why Chon suddenly was able to forgive Ton because of this story lol. I guess he was able to forgive Ton because 1) they are fictional characters and 2) they were on the last episode.
The plot itself was nothing new and I won't explain myself here because a lot of other users did it already, so I wasn't expecting much regarding plot (if you want something different go for Manner of Death) but I was kinda interested because the series's teaser was very good and Chon seemed to be a different main character (specially because he didn't lower his head for Amp). I still think Chon is a good character. Actually I think every character is somewhat good because they have good stuff going on and they also have flaws. I think they could do a better job with Tonhoncholatee if they had more episodes but they spend a lot of time also with some unnecessary bs, but I'm not an expert on recording series nor editing them.
I can understand Ton's dad issues even tho I don't agree with them. But the way things were dealt at the end was ???¿¿????¿. I can see that point on the plot working out if Ton's dad had really some time to think. But I give him kudos for one of the best lines in the series: accepting someone is also a way to show them love. There's a transgender youtuber i follow (she's from my country - brazil) that once said that she understood when her parents got shocked when she came out. When a woman gets pregnant the parents tend to dream about that child and build a lot of dreams for themselves. We know that this is not healthy at all but it is reality. And she said that she understand she killed that dream and they needed time to deal with that. I think this is somewhat what was happening to Ton's dad.
The solution for TonChon relationship was also very ???. Of course they could try "renting" a womb (this is illegal in my country lol) but this should be their decision also. They could do even better and adopt a child that needs parents.
Contrasting with Ton's dad, we have Chon's mom. I love her and there's nothing we can discuss about this queen that stick with her son.
Ton's sister and brother-in-law had one of the most interesting plots on the series and it's a shame we didn't see them as much as I wished to. Na is our true hero and I wish him the best, i still can't believe people were so heartless with his feelings and asked him to help chon and ton get together.
Miriam is not in the novel but I'm happy she was in the series. Toptap and Mike were there to give us some fanservice let's be honest lol. Although, i still enjoyed them a lot and I think the characters suited them well.
But now I want to talk about Amp. Ok she was there to be the bad character and we understand that. BUT the way she was treated at the end? Please, let's grow up. We WON'T do a thing to the world while we fight intolerance with intolerance and I won't get tired of saying that. I wish they do better in the future with characters like that.
The OST was great, the plot was not revolutionary, the actors did their job well (it's not their fault what they had to portray) and I had some good time watching it. I was mad, i laughed, i questioned myself and the plot's taste a lot also. I'm glad GMMTV is at least trying to do something without relying on our holy trinity (now + brightwin lol) and I'm also glad Pod and Khao were paired as the main couple.
I won't say I'm gonna watch this series again but I also won't say that watching tonhoncholatee was a waste of time. Not for me at least. If you are unsure on watching it or not just give it a try and drop it if you don't like. Simple as that.
