Sad but real
I do want to understand why people have disliked the ending so much. I mean everyone was well aware of the possibility (and almost reality) of the series not ending in great terms.Let's be serious: who hasn't ever been in denial or in denial about a potential relationship? It's totally understandable why Sheng Wang is rejecting his own feeling. Just try to put yourself in his place: you've never fallen in love with anyone and, now that the time has come, this someone has to be your best friend and even your """""""stepbrother"""""" (I hate people calling them brothers yuck)! Wouldn't you also be crazy? Try to see from the perspective of the character.
Furthermore, talking about capitalism reasons, you know pretty well that the team wants us to be as anxious and nervous as possible for another season. This the only way to stay with the hype up. We'll probably get another season. Taiwan does it a lot and, if they continue following the novel, the S2 will also be perfect. Please continue hyping the series to make it possible

A excellent choice of series
How can I praise the beauty of a series that, from its very first announcement, captured my attention without resorting to the usual clichés? I’d say this is easily achieved through a simple analysis of the work itself. It is a fact that BLs with unconventional themes, like this one, which addresses the practice of euthanasia, captivate audiences simply by deviating from the standard narratives we are accustomed to. However, SMYM went beyond that, showing us that a well-crafted story with a heavy emotional load can be executed beautifully in just a few episodes. The philosophical conflicts that shaped the relationship between the policeman and the doctor were brilliantly constructed, reinforcing my belief that love, no matter how pure, is also susceptible to deterioration when it blooms in an environment of discord and deceit.
Unlike some critics, I don’t consider the romance insufficient, given how the plot was structured. From the very beginning, Wasan was presented as a serious individual whose professional mission often overshadowed his personal life. Moreover, he was exposed to the mysterious deaths of terminal patients under Dr. Kan’s care early on, which made his feelings toward the doctor ambiguous and diminished the possibility of a deeper relationship. How could someone who had personally experienced the pain of losing a patient fully involve themselves romantically with their prime suspect?
That said, I don’t want readers to think the romance is reduced to a game of manipulations or that the series lacks emotional scenes. The characters’ feelings develop slowly, but they are understandable, and the actors’ chemistry greatly enhanced the relationship's progression. Without exaggeration, the actors delivered a stunning performance in their romantic interactions!
What’s more, the moral dilemmas, the characters’ conflicting perceptions, and the well-crafted scenes that urged us to speculate about potential outcomes were incredibly appealing elements for any viewer open to the beauty of the drama.
Finally, I’d like to emphasize that the series isn’t perfect. There are some points to consider before deciding to watch it, especially since its premise focuses primarily on mystery and the ethical questions surrounding euthanasia. This might not appeal to viewers seeking a more conventional romance. Another factor that could influence your evaluation is the realistic ending, which, in my humble opinion, was perfectly aligned with each character’s personality as presented throughout the series. However, if you’re not a fan of open endings, this might impact your overall experience.
The epilogue is truly moving, and the actors’ performances were divine. Therefore, I confidently assert that Spare Me Your Mercy is a mature production capable of making you smile, cry, and fall in love with the dynamic and chemistry of the main couple, making it an excellent choice for those looking to escape routine BLs and for anyone who loves reflecting on ethical questions through such rich storytelling.
