My favorite historical c-dramas
Sometimes we're enthralled by the whole thing, other times by the plot, the cinematography, the character. Sometimes it's hard for us to determine what exactly captured our heart. Something that is beautiful to one person may seem like a nightmare to another. Both people are right. There is no drama that everyone loves. My top may be the bottom for you, or vice versa. Let's respect each other's opinions.

1. The Rise of Phoenixes
Chinese Drama - 2018, 70 episodes
I appreciate mostly for ML who is smart, strong, clever and additionally tragic exactly to the extent to sympathize with him but not make him pathetic. The political scheming in this drama like no other is presented in a really interesting and gripping way and you can never be sure if ML will succeed or fail. Excellent emperor, interesting FL plot. If the last episode was removed, this drama would be perfect. Many viewers feel that the last episode spoiled their impression of the whole drama. In my opinion, the ending was forced by the fashion of the period when the drama was created. The whole drama is excellent and the last episode - if you expect to be disappointed, maybe you won't be disappointed?

2. Ever Night
Chinese Drama - 2018, 60 episodes
This drama captured my heart from the first scenes in the desert, where horse hooves stirred up sand, a desert lizard ran in the hot sun and a soldier lay with his face covered by a book. I love the fight scenes in this drama, the realism, the subtle special effects, the amazing sense of humor and the main character. The drama is full of action and humor, well shot, even better acted and on top of that, with overbearing music that enhances the atmosphere of each scene. My absolute number one from 2018. Nothing has dethroned it.

3. Tribes and Empires: Storm of Prophecy
Chinese Drama - 2017, 75 episodes
I love the momentum of this production, that's one thing. It really draws you in and impresses you with the quality of the world depicted. The costumes, sets and cinematography are magnificent. On top of that, the plot is full of momentum, the tension properly created and maintained, the fate of the characters you can really care about and the excellent acting. Wonderful music. Two downsides - too many side plots, which unnecessarily dilutes the plot and I miss not seeing one of the main characters for, say, ten episodes. The second is some incomprehensible to me solutions in the plot, as if they were used only to increase the tragedy of the situation.

4. The Dark Lord
Chinese Drama - 2018, 48 episodes
It is not strictly a historical drama, rather a comedy set in a historical convention, but what a comedy it is! Great fun is guaranteed almost all the time! I don't mind the not-so-great production quality and cheesy special effects, because ML and his team sweep everything up! Excellent entertainment not lacking some depth. Lots of laughter and some tears for the balance. The best comedy I've seen at c-ent!

5. Say Hero Who Is Hero
Chinese Drama - 2022, 38 episodes
The story is quite remarkable, the cinematography is shot in an interesting and beautiful way but what I like most is the plot of the young Mr. Su. I get the impression that the whole story centers around him, although he is not ML, and since the character is played superbly, I can only applaud with appreciation.

6. Il Lupo
Chinese Drama - 2020, 49 episodes
I'm a little surprised to place this title and so high but I admit, I like this drama. I like the idea, I like the fact that there were almost no green scenes but most of all I love the commitment of the actors. I think I've seen all the main actors in other dramas and I really like how they acted in The Wolf. However, my heart was stolen by the plot of 2ML who is a fascinating person and totally drew me into his adventures. Where ML and FL cried over their tragic fate, 2ML took life by the horns, kicked it in the balls and did what he thought was right. I miss those types of heroes.

7. Novoland: Eagle Flag
Chinese Drama - 2019, 56 episodes
First, what I don't like, which is ML and FL. I don't know if it was due to the actors or the script, I absolutely could not sympathize with this couple. He was terribly weak, she was annoyingly hyperactive. What I love is definitely the momentum of the production and the world building. Beautiful interiors, locations, costumes and a good storyline. The care taken to make sure each kingdom had its own characteristics. Excellent fight scenes. Excellent actors and actresses in the background. The whole is complemented by perfectly written music.
