One thing I noticed on MDL, is that people that don't agree with you tend to react with some throwaway account created on the same day or only a week before instead of their actual account.

Typically you would see only 1 show on their account, that they rated highly (8.5  - 10.0) and nothing else on there.

What's the deal with this, why do people do this? Are they afraid they get banned for cursing someone out on their our original account? Do they not want to deal with the nuclear fallout of cursing someone out? Do they want to pretend on their original accounts that they're saints while cursing people out on  their multiple dummy accounts?

It seems absolutely childish to me, I even had one person use one of these throwaway accounts with their e-mail address as username, which incidentally was their username of their other account that I blocked, so not only did that person use a fake account to rate a single show 10/10, but also used it to bypass someone blocking them to curse them out (again).

I don't recall ever seeing something like this on other social media sites, well except for 8-12 years old children trying to one-up their peers.

From my experience:

they use them to devote, vote high a drama, when lol two partie sare in a war

To see comments from those who blocked them

On account could watch dramas normally on the original wont ever put[more mature, bl etc]

etc

Are many reasons i guess.

I find it both interesting and sad at the same time, like they're afraid you will go to their profile and say 'Hey you rated this x and this y, you're a bad person because of it!' -- Which is exactly what they do though...

The one I had went on how I had a favorable rating for one show and a lower rating for their favorite show, I don't recall ever being part of a 'fanbase' for any show on here, or even western shows for that matter. But some people find that distinction very important apparently, whereas I'm like: Why would I put myself in a box and hate on something I didn't watch or faux hate it because I liked another show?

If you think a show that I like sucks, I don't care, it doesn't change anything about how I feel about the show. Same the other way around, I really don't understand why some people feel personally offended if you criticize certain aspects about a show that they like.

Personally I think people should be banned on all their accounts if they are abusing multiple accounts to curse out people or to influence the scores of their favorite show(s) and their hated show(s). It's obnoxious and only lowers the quality of the site's ecosystem, the rating system is busted because of it and there is so much inflammatory messaging going on.

Some of these will just be trolls, here only to wind people up and get reactions. And if it is genuinely a 2nd account but they're behaving like trolls, it's probably best to follow the same strategy and ignore them.

They'll simply create new accounts, and as nothing happened to the one with the obvious fake account, that used their own e-mail address which had their original username in it is still active on the site and as of yet received zero response from the staff.

I'm going on a limb and say there are no moderators active on MDL. In all likelihood a staff member can press one button and see how numerous accounts are used from the same IP address.

This person was one I did ignore, but they went out of their way to create a new account simply to harass me. Nothing happened to them so I assume influencing ratings and harassing people is acceptable behavior on Mydramalist as moderators don't give a rats ass.

Ok, so you're mostly talking about one person and not in general. That's a different question. Vent away. And hope the person doesn't see that you've made a thread about them. Harassers thrive on this kind of reward.

There has been multiple, this is just an example of one. I've seen a multitude of empty accounts except for 1 series rated 10/10 and harassing OTHER people everywhere as well.

I see nothing about multiple accounts in the TOS. The Terms are in fact frightfully lax and vague where they need to be specific  Even a toxic dump like Reddit explicitly forbids multis, ban/block evasion, and brigading.

You should probably ask such questions of the Management rather than the Forum.

I did that before about a month ago when somebody harassed me.

Having multiple accounts on the same IP-address can also be family members obviously, but it wouldn't surprise me if some people have 5-10+ accounts to vote brigade certain series they like or dislike.

Having multiple accounts on itself shouldn't be a problem, it's just the way people are utilizing them to influence ratings and to harass people which is.

On Myanimelist there are a bunch of (unwritten) measures in place to prevent vote brigading from being counted into the scores, I doubt MDL has something like that in place.

there have been measures previously that stopped people mass downvoting a drama, idk about upvoting though, ive seen many accounts with 2000+ titles that have all the titles as a 10 rating

I was completely unaware of this, even though I have been using this site for five years straight. Probably because I mostly surf jdramas, and these comment-saga arguments mostly occur on kdramas and famous cdramas. Also BL i guess, because i think its a huge thing in the drama community now.
But i have been on the internet for than 19 -18 years (yes i had access to unsupervised internet even as a kid), which is long enough to know why someone would do this lol.

Kinda sad to hear that MDL people do this too, I've had my share of MDL comment section batshit arguments, but never faced this lmao.

Its mostly to reduce the ratings of dramas they don't like. they often do this to competing mainstream dramas, and to BL GL to fit their agenda.

and of course, rage eats them out. they can't tolerate the sight of someone else winning at an opinion against them, huge narcissistic problem ig, so they gotta highlight and agree with "themselves"from another account.

It's likely a K-drama fan base thing on MDL at least, what I find interesting in their logical reasoning is that if you dislike Show A but like Show B, you must hate Show A because you like Show B.

Black- and white thinking is common amongst these people, they don't want to or can't accept that people may dislike a series or parts of it and like another, not because they're part of some Fanclub Gang that is hating on another show, but just because they rated these individual shows based on their feelings/tastes.

Obviously you will find this elsewhere too, like the Sony vs Xbox or Apple vs Android fanboys..... I really don't understand how these people work...

I see these a lot too. Like why are people doing this? Making fake accounts do put a shame and hate to dramas and other stuff, people are so bored with life or something...

I'm glad I'm not the only one noticing this.

Wow, thanks for your interesting comments.

I noticed this as well: people create extra accounts because they are ashamed of either liking drama everyone hates or hating drama everyone likes. And though they still want everyone to know that, they do not want to be recognized by the community!

Case in point, just right now: an account created today in order to write a rave review for a drama universally considered as bad. https://mydramalist.com/profile/Taewberries/reviews Don't misunderstand me, please, since I personally liked this drama very much but the MAJORITY did not and it is very hard to go against the majority's opinion for fear of being ostracized!
