ZE:A's Kim Dong Jun is officially returning to the K-drama scene.
On April 26, Kim Dong Jun's agency MAJOR9 announced that Kim Dong Jun will be the main lead of the upcoming KBS 2TV's new K-drama The Goryeo-Khitan War.
This will be the grand comeback of Kim Dong Jun after he enlisted in the military.
Kim Dong Jun began his military service in July 2021. In January of this year, the idol actor got officially discharged. After a few months, Kim Dong Jun finally picked his first project.
The ZE:A member began his acting career in 2010. Since then, he has participated in several K-dramas while also being active as a ZE:A member.
Kim Dong Jun is known for being part of the K-dramas The Clinic for Married Couples: Love and War 2, My Husband Got a Family, Aftermath, My Lawyer, Mr. Jo, Black, About Time, Chief of Staff, More Than Friends, and more.
Before Kim Dong Jun enlisted in the military, he made a special appearance in the 2021 K-dramas Dramaworld Season 2 and Summer Guys. His last work was supposed to be Joseon Exorcist, but the series was canceled after only two episodes.
The Goryeo-Khitan War will reveal the story of King Hyeonjong of Goryeo and his battle against Khitan and his commander-in-chief Kang Gam Chan.
The upcoming K-drama will be the next work of directors Jeon Woo Sung and Kim Han Sol, and writer Lee Jung Woo. The series will be produced by Monster Union and Bib Studios.
Kim Dong Jun will play the role of King Hyeonjong. He is the eighth King of Goryeo. He became a King at the age of 19 and already faced several difficulties at the beginning of his throne. One of which is the invasion of Khitan to Goryeo.
Aside from Kim Dong Jun, actors Choi Soo Jong and Ji Seung Hyun will also lead the series.
The Goryeo-Khitan War will be part of the special plan of KBS for its 50th anniversary. The upcoming K-drama will premiere in the second half of 2023.
