"Revenant" Kim Tae Ri and Oh Jung Se Teams Up in Tracking the Mystery of Jangjin-ri

In the SBS Friday-Saturday drama Revenant (penned by Kim Eun Hee and helmed by Lee Jung Rim), the previous episode, Ku San Young (played by Kim Tae Ri) and Yeom Hae Sang (played by Oh Jung Se) hinted at a full-fledged collaboration to uncover the identity of the revenant.

Ku San Young saw the map from Ku Kang Mo (played by Jin Seon Kyu)'s research notebook through the revenant's eyes, which took her grandmother Kim Seok Ran's (played by Ye Soo Jung) life. However, Jangjin-ri, which appeared on the map drawn from her recollections, was a place that did not exist on the current map. Yeom Hae Sang, a folklorist who explained that there are many disappeared place names in the study of folklore, brought the Korean Place Names Dictionary as a reference and embarked on a search for Jangjin-ri with Ku San Young. Eventually, they discovered a single location that matched the sketch, which featured a stone bridge and a pine forest.

According to the preview for the upcoming episode, Ku San Young and Yeom Hae Sang head toward the old Jangjin-ri location in the Korean Place Names Dictionary. However, Ku San Young questions, "Is this really where Jangjin-ri was?" as the place looks completely different from the sketch. There was a reason why Jangjin-ri had disappeared from the current map. The two begin their local investigation focusing on the elderly residents who may have lived in the old Jangjin-ri location, hoping to find the grandfather who recognizes the sketch, saying, "Yes, this is Jangjin-ri."

Another clue emerges through the grandfather's words, capturing their attention. When Yeom Hae Sang asks about the location marked with an 'X' on the map, the response is, "The place where the Deokdari tree used to be." Then, the scene transitions to Yeom Hae Sang being engulfed in shock and urgently moving, saying, "We need to find that tree quickly." It becomes an intense moment of curiosity about the connection between the Deokdari tree and the revenant.

The production team explained, "Ku San Young and Yeom Hae Sang join forces to uncover the identity of the revenant through a thorough investigation. In the process, they discover one important clue after another, and the Deokdari tree is one of them." They continued, "The Deokdari tree is related to the practice of tying 'virtue' to a tree, which symbolizes the corpse of a young child. In a previous episode, it was revealed that a horrific murder of a young girl occurred in 1958 in Jangjin-ri. We hope viewers enjoy the mystery as Ku San Young and Yeom Hae Sang and the connection between Jangjin-ri, the Deokdari tree, and the revenant unravel the story." The episode will air on the 30th at 10 PM KST.
