According to the Film Promotion Committee of South Korea, the sports movie Rebound attracted 32,926 moviegoers and ranked second at the daily box office on the day of its release (April 5). This makes the cumulative number of viewers, including paid previews, to be 50,765.
Rebound was also nominated for the Audience Award at the 25th Far East Film Festival, scheduled to be held from April 21-29, in Udine, Italy. Let's keep our fingers crossed that the sports movie will bring home the prestigious accolade.
Rebound tells a touching and prodigious true story of the 2012 National High School Basketball Championship, where a new coach and a ragtag team of 6 players, considered to be the weakest basketball team, defy all odds and rise to the KBA National Tournament. The movie is based on the real story of the 2012 basketball team of Busan Joongang High School.
The movie's cast is familiar to K-drama audiences in many ways. We have Ahn Jae Hong (who played the lead role of Kim Joo Man in Fight for My Way), Kim Min (last seen in a support role in Our Blues), Kim Do Wan (famous for his performances in Start-Up, My Roommate Is a Gumiho, and Big Mouth), Jung Gun Joo (whom we remember as Lee Do Hwa from Extraordinary You and currently playing the role of Jung Yoo Ha in The Secret Romantic Guesthouse), Lee Shin Young ( famously remembered as 5th Company first lieutenant Park Kwang Beom in Crash Landing on You), Jung Jin Woon (who played the character of Jin Yoo Jin in Dream High Season 2), Ahn Ji Ho (seen in the role of the supporting character Kim Cheol Soo in All of Us Are Dead), and the rising star Kim Taek (last seen as Prince Won San in The King's Affection); starring in the film.
Moreover, the star writer Kim Eun Hee is credited for penning the screenplay of the movie. Her other famous works include Kingdom, Signal, and Jirisan to name a few. The K-movie is helmed by the Pinocchio director Jang Hang Joon.
