Drama Slumps Part 2
Part 1: Recovering from Drama Slumps (please visit it)
I wrote my first article last year around this time so I thought that I might as well write a second part to it for the sake of it. In this year I had watched more dramas, even better ones, and I want to share them with everyone. Because some of my friends told me that they are in some kind of slump lately, I decided to write this article for them and for the ones that have the same problem.
So here are my 10 dramas that helped me out when I was lost! Each of them are a different genre so that you can find at least one for yourself. I'm aware that there are more out there but this is my opinion. Enjoy!
Warning, there may be SPOILERS!!
1. Japanese Drama: Sapuri
This drama is something like a sword with two edges. You can either love it or hate it. I admit that I loved it merely because of Kamenashi Kazuya and Eita at first, I'm biased so what.. we all are, but after the second episode I connected with the story. Why? Because it's very common, a thing that the Japanese are so good at. You can totally connect with the characters and the situation. Don't watch it if you want something extremely dramatic, because you'll be disappointed. This is a simple story about an uptight career woman that doesn't know love. No rich characters that can buy an entire country or poor ones that don't have what to eat. It's a simple drama that teach you about how your workplace influence your life and can change you. How important is for you to chose the people in your life and let them inside. So if you are in the mood for something simple and easy watch this... you won't be disappointed.
Extra: You have Eita and Kamenashi doing their best while looking good.
2. Taiwanese Drama: ISWAK & TKA
Why put 2 dramas together? Well let's just say that one without the other is no good. I think that everyone heard of the popular manga "Itazura na Kiss" and watched at least one live-action, right? In my opinion this is the best version. It's like the manga was brought to life. The chemistry between Ariel Lin and Joe Cheng is the most believable one that I've ever seen. If you were to ask me, the second season is without question better than the first one, but without it, TKA wouldn't have the same loveliness as it does with it. Yes, the female lead is annoying but you grow on her for sure. Not to mention that it's a pleasure to watch the change in Zhi Shu's character (from stoic to love fool). If you are up to something with real skinship that will give you butterflies in you stomach then watch this drama. But if you are bored of the all "stupid female lead" and "perfect male lead" concept then give up. Because this one is the perfect example.
Anyway I recommend this one with all my sincerity. Also don't get discouraged by its 50 episodes because you won't even feel how time flies.
Extra: Sweet jealousy parts.
3. Korean Drama: What's Up Fox?
I'm a big fangirl of Ko Hyun Jung after Queen Seon Duk, so I decided to give this a try after being in a slump for almost 2 weeks. It only took 20 minutes for me to be hooked. Why watch this drama? Because it's funny and sexy. Chun Jung Myung is one of the sweetest guys on Earth, and his character Cheol Soo is even sweeter. If you are a fan of age-gap relationships then you should watch this. If you are not then... still watch it! What makes this different from the other ones is that their love-line doesn't seem force at all. It's an one-sided love that slowly transforms is a shared one. But don't think that its process is boring because you are going to wrong this drama big time. While they accept their feelings for each other many things happen here and there. Also you have other couples that will make you love it even more. Another thing that I love about it is that neither of them are gorgeous but make up for it with they charm. The story is simple for you to keep up with and makes you want to take part of it.
Watch it if you are up for something funny and charming without stereotypes.
Extra: Great characters with defined personalities.
4. Korean Drama: The Princess' Man
Until now this is the most beautiful historical drama that I've watched. Have you watched a historical drama and now you don't have any idea for what to do next? Watch this. You will fall in love for sure. Not only the scenery is beautiful but also the characters and their depth. Park Shi Hoo and Moon Chae Won have such a great chemistry that you'll be glued to the screen. Also she isn't your typical female lead. She is strong, with a great ideals and a sincere heart. The male lead will make you pity him but also fight along with him. I don't know where the screenwriter get her ideas but the storyline is like no other.
Watch this is if you are up to a complex storyline full of angst, drama and love. If you want something light better look somewhere else.
Extra: A badass Park Shi Hoo with long hair.
5. Korean Drama: White Christmas
Are you tired of love stories and looking for something different. Well because Christmas is coming why don't you give this little jewel a try?! To say that this was interesting is a pity... because it was more than this, it was mind blowing. You won't feel a moment of boredom with it, and you will find yourself trying to solve the mystery that encircled those teenagers. If you want something psychological then this is your best choice. Also if you want to see the start of today's stars you have to watch this drama. You have this bunch of good looking and tall boys that can actually act! This was like the path that brought those actor to the light of stardom. I think you know about Lee Soo Hyuk, Sung Joon, Kim Young Kwang and Woo Bin, well here is where their story started. What makes this drama so good is the difference between the characters' personality. You will find at least one that you'll identify with.
Extra: Eye Candy + Crazy RED Woo Bin
6. Korean Drama: I Need Romance
The only bad thing about this drama is that you'll fell bad after you'll finish it. Why? Because you won't find another one like it... not even the second season in my opinion. I Need Romance is my one and only most treasured jewel. How can I describe it... it's like a breath of fresh air. If you want a drama that deals with everyday problems this one is for you. You have typical conversations between friends like relationships and sex. Something is normal for 30 something women right? But on the other hand, if you are looking for things like innocent first love than go elsewhere. Here you will find cheating, jealousy, greed and finally LOVE.
Extra: Mind Blowing Kiss scenes + Steamy scenes
7. Japanese Drama: Mirai Nikki
Thrilling. This is the word that best describes this drama. It's weird in a good way. I remember watching it in a single day... that's how obsessed I was! First you have Okada Masaki who plays the role of the ignorant hero really well. Secondly you have charming Gouriki Ayame who is as creepy as any girl with big eyes. Trust me, they are the best combination. The story is really interesting. It's more to it than the summary. The idea behind it is really original and will keep you interested till the end. Watch it if you want some survival game appear in front of you.
Extra: The curiosity for the unknown.
8. Korean Drama: Ojakgyo Brothers
This is my last drama that helped me out from a slump. I just Love it!!!! In my opinion this is the best family drama out there... you have everything and more + Joo Won. The thing is that it has every kind of relationship you can wish for:
- Spoiled Girl and Rational Guy - CHECK
- One night stand that leads to love - CHECK
- Love is exactly where you aren't looking - CHECK
- Older Woman with Younger Boy - CHECK
Like I said, it's the whole package. Also you have the personalities and parents that are very detailed portrayed. Not to mention that UEE got in my good books with this role. I simply can't imagine someone else in it but her.
So if you're looking for something funny, romantic with drama here then this one is for you.
Extra: Uee's long legs and Joo Won's presence.
9. Japanese Drama: Last Cinderella
This drama was ridiculous but it worked for me. I watched it in a single day, without stopping. As the name says it's a pure fairytale, but I LOVED it! I know that a 15 year age gap is a little to much to handle, but hey this is DramaLand so why not? What makes this show worth it? For me the hilarity was awesome. And with this I mean the character of Shinohara Ryoko. Man can this woman play ugly and unattractive. Then it was Miura Haruma. This is the drama where he looks his best. I fell in love with him from his first scene. We can't forget handsome Fujiki Naohito who made it hard for me by playing the second lead so well. So if you are into "Super hot guy falls in love with 30 something woman" with a little twist of charm and hotness this drama is for you.
Extra: Hot make out scenes, Miura's smile and many many almost nude scenes (it's not rated though so don't worry)
10. Korean Drama: I Hear Your Voice
Last but not least, my favorite drama for 2013. I know that almost everyone around here have watched it but I had to mention it. At first I thought it will be a disaster. I mean the fact that it has fantasy, drama, action, crime, even the losing your mind problem made me think this will take the form of a circus. I was wrong. The directors and screenwriters did a great job. Not to mention the leads! We have Yoon Sang Hyun that brings his hilarious touch to his character and than we have Lee Bo Young that portraits the workaholic woman perfectly. Seeing these 2 together was a pleasure to the eyes. Oh, I think I've forgotten about Lee Jong Suk... I can see a bright future ahead for him. If you want something refreshing that will keep you curious throughout the series you should try this one. I'm sure it won't disappoint you.
Extra: The strength of fate and destiny.
So this is it. I hope this article will help you in need. Please let me know about your opinion and other dramas that helped you out!
