Shark Recap Ep 16

SooHyeon’s car appears and SiYoo smiles slightly as he watches, feeling more at ease.  SooHyeon’s car stops and he turns on the interior light. The assassin is stunned to see who is in the car as SooHyeon holds up a gun.

SiYoo turns around to face YiHyeon and the assassin.  “Send YiHyeon over here.  If you want to save your wife, let YiHyeon go".

There’s an intense pause and then the assassin tells YiSoo “Get in the car".

SiYoo stares shocked “what?”

“My plan doesn’t change”

SiYoo looks at YiHyeon and the worry in his eyes is so heartbreaking.



HaeWoo is pleading with Grandpa Jo for YiHyeon to return safely.  She makes a deal with Grandpa Jo: If YiHyeon is returned safe, I won’t ask you any further questions; how you’ve lived up to now and what you’ve been hiding. However, if something were to happen to YiHyeon, I won’t ever forgive you, Grandfather. If YiSoo cannot return, to the bitter end, I will find the truth, whatever it may be, that you are hiding”.

"Based on what evidence, are you telling me this?"

"What's more important than evidence is the truth. That truth will be revealed someday."

"I don't know what kind of truth you are looking for, but I, your grandfather, tried my best up to now, to live earnestly."

“More important than the past is the present, Grandfather. Even if you committed wrongdoings in the past, you should admit that and—“.



Grandpa Jo yells slamming his hand on the desk “Who are you trying to teach?...I don’t know about other people, but I thought you would have trusted me. To be a respectable person, at least in front of you, I tried very hard”.

“I’m still trying to find hope in you. Please return YiHyeon unharmed”.

"I have nothing further to say."

“It’s only a sand castle. The thing you want to protect will, someday, collapse like a sandcastle. No matter how huge it may seem, a castle built on a lie will collapse someday.”

Grandpa Jo states that whether it’s a lie or truth, the castle was built for HaeWoo’s sake. HaeWoo tells him that the castle is only a prison hiding the truth. Grandpa Jo says he has lived wrongly since HaeWoo does not believe in him. He challenges that if she can prove it, go ahead. HaeWoo tells him that she loves him, but will do what she has to. She accepts his challenge, promising that if she can prove it, she will.



As she leaves Grandpa Jo’s office, she stands outside his door to take a breather.  Her phone beeps and she sees the GPS location on YiSoo’s phone is back on.  She races outside to her car just as JoonYeong is arriving home. He asks where she’s going and she tells him that something urgent came up.  He tries to stop her asking what is so urgent.  She apologizes and gets in her car to leave as he watches after her. ---poor JoonYeong.

Detective Byeon and fellow deputy [sorry but I don’t know his name] are following the tracking of YiSoo’s phone.  The deputy wonders if they should call for backup, but Detective Byeon says they need to evaluate the situation first since YiHyeon’s safety is top priority.



YiSoo questions the assassin if Grandpa Jo means more than the life of his wife.  The assassin stays firm and tells YiSoo to get in the car. YiSoo tells him not to do something he’ll regret, but the assassin simply just says to get in the car and don’t rant on.

YiSoo smiles, "What great loyalty, I'm impressed."

"Do you want your sister to die?"



YiSoo and YiHyeon exchange glances. She shakes her head no at YiSoo.  The assassin tells YiSoo to hurry and he looks at SooHyeon, then YiHyeon.  She nods as he slowly starts to turn around to face the car. He opens the door……BANG!

SooHyeon had gotten a signal from YiSoo and opened his window to shoot into the air.  The assassin turned to look at SooHyeon as YiHyeon and YiSoo ran to each other.  He embraced her, shielding her, as the assassin shot him.  The bullet grazed his shoulder as he took YiHyeon to take cover on the other side of the car.  SooHyeon drives closer as the assassin hides on the other side of the truck he used to kidnap YiHyeon.



YiSoo unties YiHyeon as she cries “oppa”. She sees that he’s bleeding, but he smiles assuring her he’s okay. He tells her to stay behind him and stands up. She pulls his arm and he crotches back down.  Her eyes filled with worry over her brother. He cups her face for a moment and then stands up to peek over the car.  SooHyeon is up against the side of the truck as the camera pans to the assassin who puts down his phone.  It cuts to Grandpa Jo hanging up his phone.

YiSoo is peeking over the car watching as SooHyeon is about to move to the side that the assassin is on.  SooHyeon glances back at YiSoo and YiSoo gives him a nod.  SooHyeon is suddenly stuck and fall to the ground.

"SooHyeon-ah!"

The assassin points his gun at YiSoo and then gets into SooHyeon’s car and drives off with his wife.  SooHyeon gets up and points his gun at the assassin getting away.  The car drives off and then he runs to YiSoo and YiHyeon.  They both stand up and YiSoo looks at YiHyeon, “are you okay?”.  Tears are streaming from her eyes as she nods.  He pulls her into a hug and she cries.  SooHyeon tells YiSoo the bullet grazed his shoulder.  YiSoo tells him it’s okay.



“We should stop the bleeding first” SooHyeon notes.

YiSoo smiles at him and then turns to his sister to ask if she was injured and if she’s okay.  She cries that he is the one that’s injured, telling him to hurry and go to the hospital first

“I’m okay, don’t worry”...“you’re bleeding a lot” she pleads with him.

He smiles “I said I’m okay”.  They hear sirens and decide to leave.

Inside the car, YiSoo turns off his phone as SooHyeon glances at YiHyeon through the rear-view mirror.  YiHyeon has her head on YiSoo’s shoulder as she sleeps.  He smiles resting his chin on her head as he gently pats her head.

The assassin is shown with his wife. She has fallen asleep. He glances at her while taking her hand.



YiSoo and YiHyeon are seated on a park bench.  She wonders why he hadn’t told her all this time: “Even if I couldn’t recognize you, you should have told me first”.

“I’m sorry YiHyeon”.

“No, I’m sorry. I’m really sorry that I couldn’t recognize you”.

“Of course you wouldn’t recognize me, because my appearance has changed that is, of course.”

She smiles shaking her head “no, you haven’t even changed one bit. I didn’t recognize you, that’s all.  You’re exactly the same as back then.  You haven’t even changed one bit…but, why are you living as Kim Joon? Are you doing something dangerous?"

He smiles reassuring her “That’s not it”.  She tells him to tell her and he just smiles saying that there’s something he has to do and although he can’t tell her now, he will later.

She pleads for him to stop, “stop everything and live with me, Oppa.  You promised that we would go hiking together, and eat together every day, you promised!"

"YiHyeon-ah."

"I'm going crazy because I'm so worried! I'm afraid something might happen again to you."

“Later, when everything has ended, I will tell you then. Everything. I will tell you everything.  Don’t worry about anything and don’t feel uneasy”...“we’re going to meet again right?”

He smiles nodding “Yes."

“I can contact you right?”

He smiles “Of course.”

She holds her pinky out, “You promise, you’re not going to suddenly disappear!”.  He interlocks his pinky with hers as he promises. She smiles and mentions how her mom and dad must be worried.  He wipes away her tears as she smiles.



They walk holding hands back to the car. SooHyeon says he knows a private clinic YiSoo can go to.  YiHyeon encourages YiSoo to go.  YiSoo says he will as he turns to SooHyeon and asks him to take YiHyeon home and be careful.  SooHyeon assures him not to worry and to get treated first.  YiSoo tells him to go and he agress.  SooHyeon opens the door and tells YiHyeon to get in.  She stares at him and he tells her he knows that she has many questions and that he’ll explain them on the way.

YiHyeon turns to YiSoo and tells him he has to go to the hospital first and to eat well.  He smiles agreeing and tells her to get in the car.  She says to him, “contact me, if calling is tiresome, text me daily”.  He nods agreeing.  She turns to get in the car and then stops to look at him, smiling as she says for him to buy her spaghetti the next time they meet.  YiSoo thanks SooHyeon and then they leave.  YiHyeon looks back and smiles at YiSoo watching her and SooHyeon leaving.

YiSoo sent a text message to Detective Byeong that YiHyeon was on her way home and she was unharmed.  He rushes to get home to meet her.  He calls and tells HaeWoo.

HaeWoo calls YiSoo, but hangs up after the first ring.

YiSoo goes to Secretary Jang. “I’m a bit injured and my hand can’t reach the wound. Will you help me, Secretary Jang?"



YiHyeon and SooHyeon arrive outside her home.  They both get out and she tells him to hurry and go since he said he shouldn’t meet her dad.  SooHyeon tells her he’ll see her in and tells her to hurry in. She thanks him and he responds “That’s what I should say. Thank you for hanging in there bravely”.

He smiles at her and then taps her forehead telling her to hurry inside. She tells him to go and they turns around to inside...“Let’s go see a movie next time."

She turns back to face him and he wonders if she doesn’t like movies. She tells him to go and then runs inside. He just watches her, relieved that she is safe.

YiHyeon’s mom is pacing inside.  The door opens and YiHyeon appears.  She smiles that her mom must have been worried. Her mom pulls her into a hug as she cries thanking the Lord.



Secretary Jang is finishing up cleaning YiSoo’s wound.  She covers it, but tells him to go to the hospital for antibiotics. YiSoo smiles making a joke, “Did you forget your boss used to be yakuza?”

He thanks her and she wonders how he was injured. He tells her to rest well and begins to leave.  She tells him to rest well.




JoonYeong is on HaeWoo’s computer and looking through her documents.  He pulls up one about Kim Joon.  He flashes back to when he read on HaeWoo’s board “Different face-why?”

Another flashback to drinking at the bar with Kim Joon—“When I see you, I think of that friend. You don’t look like him, but somehow, you two have the similar aura.”

He also flashes back to all the moments he saw HaeWoo and Kim Joon together. He’s starting to put things together…possibly.




HaeWoo arrives home and sits in her car.  YiHyeon calls her and HaeWoo asks if she’s okay.  YiHyeon says she’s okay and is a bit hesitant to tell HaeWoo so she says never mind and she’ll call later. HaeWoo asks, “Did you meet…YiSoo?”

“You knew…didn’t you?”

“I’m sorry for not telling you beforehand, YiHyeon”

“It’s okay. but…I think my brother is doing some dangerous work. 

Do you perhaps know what he is up to”...It’s silent for a moment as HaeWoo sighs.  YiHyeon continues, “Oppa was hurt a lot.”

HaeWoo becomes worried as YiHyeon explains that YiSoo didn’t go to the hospital.  YiHyeon cries that she’s worried and doesn’t know what to do. She hears her father calling for her and tells HaeWoo she has to go.  She wipes her tears and stands as her dad comes through the door.  He hugs her and thanks God that she’s okay.

HaeWoo starts her car and takes off.  JoonYeong watches from the window and clenches his fist.



YiSoo arrives home and receives a call from SooHyeon. He asks if YiHyeon got home okay.  SooHyeon says she did and asks about his wound.  YiSoo tells him it’s fine and asks if he checked the nursing home.

“As predicted, he dropped off his wife and disappeared.  I don’t think he will show up there again.  As to where he ran to, I’m not sure.”  He takes a breath and continues “We should’ve caught him this time by any means.  The more I thought about it, the more it upsets me”

“Will Chairman Jo spare Choi Byeong Gi’s life”...“What are you talking about?”

“Choir Byeong Gi is Chairman Jo’s loyal right arm.  However, he’s also the one who knows about Chairman Jo the most.”...“And so?”

“Such a person like him is exposed, to not only us, but also to the police”...“Even so, do you think he would decide to get rid of his right arm that easily?”

“If it’s Chairman Jo, he’s capable enough to do so”...“However, getting rid of Choi Byeong Gi won’t be easy for Chairman Jo either”

“Once he decides, he will figure out the way readily.  Before that, we must find Choi Byeong Gi first. Because he is the perfect evidence that can topple Chairman Jo to the ground”.



Detective Byeon is questioning asking YiHyeon if she saw the kidnapper’s face.  She did not see his face clearly since he was wearing a mask and later she was too afraid to face him. He asks if she remembers anything particularly and she says that he was on the phone with someone and heard him talk about a document.  She also heard him say not to try and use Prosecutor Jo.  Detective Byeon ponders over that. YiHyeon wonders if that is HaeWoo and her dad tells her he will investigate that.

YiHyeon’s mom asks if she knew the person that saved her.  YiHyeon lies that she does not.  Her mother tells the dad that he must find out so they can thank him. Detective Byeon knows that YiHyeon is lying but does not say anything.  YiHyeon says she’s tired so they send her off to sleep.  Her mom wants to follow her and sleep with her, but the dad does not let her.  He tells her to lock the door well and heads out.

YiSoo is flipping a USB drive in his hand and then his phone rings.  He stares at it for a moment and then sighs.

HaeWoo is in her car driving. She remembers YiHyeon’s words, “Oppa was hurt a lot”. She pulls off to the side as a really sad, meaningful song plays...



YiSoo goes to the park outside his place and meets Detective Byeon.  He asks what is it he had to say.  Detective Byeon calls him a rotten bastard.

“Do you know what you’re doing?  The pain that you’re going through, you’re making YiHyeon suffer that pain now. And I know you don’t want that for your sister.  If only for YiHyeon, who has waited these 12 years for you, you should change your mind.  It’s not your role to judge the perpetrator”

“Although you spoke the same words 12 years ago…Yet, in the end, the truth was still buried”...Detective Byeon admits that the truth was buried, but it won’t be forever.  He asks YiSoo to believe in him once more, to trust him and let him shoulder the burden, but YiSoo says he does not believe in anyone and he will not make the same mistake twice.

“I don’t want to handcuff you with my own hands, YiSoo”

“That won’t happen.  I will come to you on my own when everything has come to an end”

They stare at each other and then YiSoo tells him that YiHyeon’s kidnapper is Choi Byeong Gi. Detective Byeon asks why YiSoo is telling him this and YiSoo responds “Because catching the culprit is your job”.

YiSoo takes his leave and Detective Byeon asks if he had anything to do with Jeong ManCheol’s murder.  YiSoo tells him that if he wants to question him, he’ll have to go through the legal process first. He turns to leave and Detective Byeon apologizes, “I’m sorry YiSoo.  12 years ago, if only I had found the truth…If only I had arrived at the car accident scene earlier, you wouldn’t have been this miserable.  I’m very sorry, YiSoo…and also thank you. Thank you for allowing YiHyeon to return home unharmed”...YiSoo smiles as he turns around “The one who should be thankful is I. For raising our YiHyeon, into a bright person, thank you”.  He bows to him and then turns to leave.



JoonYeong arrives outside YiSoo’s building.  He stares up at it.

YiSoo gets off the elevator and sees HaeWoo waiting outside his door.  She turns around to leave and sees him.  He begins walking towards her and she asks if he had gotten treatment since she heard he was injured. He walks past her and she asks if he’ll be okay.  “I’m sorry.  I’ll leave”

YiSoo is touched by her words but goes inside anyways.  HaeWoo goes to the elevator as YiSoo stands on the other side of his door.  HaeWoo presses the button on the elevator as tears began rolling down her face.  She runs to the stairs as YiSoo opens his door to see her.  He runs out as HaeWoo is walking down the stairs, suppressing her cries.  He catches up to her and back hugs her, “don’t go. Don’t go HaeWoo-ah. Don’t go”.  She turns around to face him and he pleads “Don’t go”.  She cries pulling him into a hug as they both cry.

JoonYeong is about to go inside the building but then turns around to leave.  He suddenly spots HaeWoo’s car and goes into the building.  Some guy is seen lurking.



YiSoo is sleeping on the couch as HaeWoo stands at the window, twisting her wedding ring around her finger. She turns to leave, but stops to glance at YiSoo sleeping.  As she leaves, YiSoo wakes up.

JoonYeong gets off the elevator and hears a door opening.  He looks and is shocked to see HaeWoo coming out of YiSoo’s.  He steps back into the elevator, overwhelmed at what he just saw.

JoonYeong stumbles out of the building, reeling from shock and speeds home, swerving between cars.



HaeWoo is stopped in the lobby by her dad’s mistress.  She tells HaeWoo not to hate her too much.  She reveals that she is still hurt by HaeWoo’s words, even if she hurt HaeWoo, HaeWoo’s words had left a scar.  HaeWoo tells her she does not want to meddle between her and her father and leaves.

In the car, HaeWoo flashes back to what she told her dad’s mistress “Is love a sin? You see, a cowardly love is not love, so it is a sin…Since it hurts people who love the person, it’s a sin and it’s the worst type of sin”.  She cries resting her head on the steering wheel.



The man that was lurking turns out to be one of Junichiro’s men.  He whispers something to Junichiro and then President Jo joins him at the bar.  Junichiro gives him a USB and tells him it contains a very important document.  President Jo looks at the USB, playing with it.



Detective Byeon is outside the bookstore.  It is locked.  He calls the deputy [still don’t know his name keke] and tells him to search Choi Byeong Gi, the owner of the Dae Woo bookstore at Seong Buk Dong, because he is a suspect in YiHyeon’s kidnap. The deputy tells him that there was also a call from Gwangjin port about an abandoned truck.  It was found during a call about a gun shot.  Detective Byeon tells him to have it searched for fingerprints and any evidence. They hang up and Detective Byeon stares at the bookstore.  In the shadows behind him, Byeong Gi (the assassin) iis watching him, clicking his pen.



HaeWoo arrives home and asks the housekeeper where JoonYeong is.  He is upstairs so HaeWoo heads to go upstairs.  Grandpa Jo comes out of his office and HaeWoo stops to glance at him.  He asks if she had dinner and she tells him she ate.  He tells her no matter how busy she is, she shouldn’t skip a meal.  He then changes the subject and asks the housekeeper if President Jo is home.  She offers to call him to find out where he is. HaeWoo stares at Grandpa Jo and then goes upstairs as he watches her and the housekeeper watches him.



HaeWoo goes to her room and turns the light on.  She sees JoonYeong sitting on the bed and asks what he is doing sitting in the dark.  He asks where she went and she lies that she was at the office.  He asks about the urgent matter and she changes the subject to his father.  She plans to go to the hospital starting tomorrow and apologizes to JoonYeong.  He stands up and declares that he will sleep at the hospital.  He says it’s because his father’s condition is unknown and his mother will be tired so he will have to be at the hospital for the time being. She offers to go with him, but he tells her his father wouldn’t want that.

He leaves and she goes after him.  She tells him she has something to talk to him about, but he does not want to hear it.  He says it’s because he’s worried about his dad and not in the mood to hear anything.  He leaves and then cries outside his car.



The housekeeper (Secretary Park) goes to HaeWoo’s room and tells her that JoonYeong is very sensitive because of his father’s condition. She tells her that although she may be tired, to show attention to JoonYeong.  She then hands HaeWoo a paper, revealing that the late madam had occasionally given money to the address without the Chairman knowing.  She believes that it was to the President’s birth mother. Secretary Park tells her that although she doesn’t know what’s going on, she would like to help.  HaeWoo thanks her.

HaeWoo stares at the address: “173-27 Yanghang-ri, Namha-myeon, Geochang-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do”.



President Jo plugs the USB into his laptop and opens the document.  The title reads, “The truth about Cheon Yeong Bo”.  He wonders who that is and begins reading the document. As he reads, a look of realization crosses his face.  He reels back in his chair, a look of fear on his face.



Secretary Jang meets Junichiro at the bar.  He asks her about YiSoo’s wound.  She tells him it was only grazed by a bullet.  He asks her about the photo of YiSoo and Chairman Jo’s daughter.  When Secretary Jang asks why, he tells her to send it to the editor-in-chief of a newspaper company.  She says that by doing that, it’ll make things difficult for YiSoo and even if she sent it, Chairman Jo would stop it.  Junichiro reminds her that it’s important how they cause the downfall and tells her to send the picture since YiSoo is wavering and they need to set him straight again. He’s also curious what Chairman Jo will do.



YiSoo is staring at the USB and flashes back to Junichiro saying that they both want the same thing, Chairman Jo’s complete demise.  His phone rings and he sees that it’s YiHyeon. She asks if he went to the hospital and he lies that he did and nothing is wrong, it’ll heal soon.  She is relieved and tells him not to overdo it.  He asks why she is still up and she tells him she can’t sleep.

“Because you’re scared?”

“No, because I’m too happy.  I’m so happy that you’re alive that I can’t sleep”

It’s quiet for a moment and then YiSoo tells her to try to sleep since she’s been through a lot today.  She agrees and asks what he’s doing.

“Just getting ready to sleep”

“Did I wake you?”

He smiles “No. Go to sleep YiHyeon”.  He wishes that she sleeps well and they hang up.  He stares at his phone and then covers his face.

Detective Byeon sits on YiHyeon’s bed as he tells her that he knows it was YiSoo that saved her and for her not to hide it from him.  She pleads that YiSoo did nothing wrong and for him to save her brother.  She cries as he promises to help her brother.



Secretary Jang stares at the photo of YiSoo and HaeWoo.

JoonYoeng is at a bar, taking shot after shot.  He then goes to his brother JoonHo’s grave and cries that he misses him.

The editor-in-chief of a newspaper company receives a package. He opens it to find pictures of two people kissing.  As he flips through the pictures, he sees a close up picture and realizes who it is.  He calls Grandpa Jo to tell him.  Grandpa Jo requests that he send the photo to him.



YiSoo and Secretary Jang are walking together down to the lobby.  She tells him not to overdo himself and that he should be resting.  He tells her that because of her, he was able to heal well.  They meet DongSoo, and YiSoo wonders why he seems so down today.  DongSoo admits that he was rejected yesterday.

“Rejected?”

“Yes. I usually fall asleep 5 seconds after I put my head on the pillow. But I couldn’t sleep at all last night.”

YiSoo smiles “who were you rejected by?”

DongSoo takes his hand and tells him not to ask because he has some secrets that he wants to hide too. He lets go of YiSoo’s hand, and it lingers in the air.  DongSoo pushes it down and tells him “let’s go”.  He walks off sighing as YiSoo turns to Secretary Jang and asks if she knows who it is.  She looks down and lies that she doesn’t as she begins walking off.  He watches her, tilting his head and then shakes it off.  His phone beeps and he takes it out to see a new message.  He opens the message to see the photo of him kissing HaeWoo.  The camera pans out to Secretary Jang as she turns around to look at YiSoo.



JoonYeong is sitting at his father’s hospital bed.  His phone vibrates and it’s HaeWoo. He stares at the phone, not answering it.

HaeWoo hangs up at it goes to voicemail.  SooHyeon comes into her office and she asks him what happened yesterday since she was unable to reach him.  He tells her he was trying to find the person caught on CCTV, so he was at the wrong place.  He apologizes to her and she tells him he did fine. He says that he didn’t do anything and is glad that YiHyeon was returned safely.  Detective Byeon appears and SooHyeon leaves to let them chat.

Detective Byeon tells her he met YiSoo last night and wonders how long she’s known.  She apologizes but he says they’ll talk about that later.  He asks if she knows Choi Byeong Gi. She has never heard that name and wonders who it is.  He tells her that he is a suspect in YiHyeon’s kidnapping and also the owner of the Dae Woo bookstore at Seong Buk Dong.  She becomes shocked and asks if that ahjusshi is a suspect in YiHyeon’s kidnapping.  Detective Byeon asks if she knows him.



YiSoo is sitting at his desk and then gets up and paces.  Grandpa Jo calls him and asks if YiSoo sent the picture to the newspaper.  YiSoo chuckles, “are you asking ME that question?”

Grandpa laughs “who else would do something so childish?”

“What is the reason you sent me the picture?”.

“If that picture is released to the public, HaeWoo will no longer be able to be a prosecutor, and also not be well-accepted within society. Above all, HaeWoo will have a hard time”

“With your power, Chairman, you should be able to protect your granddaughter”

“The one who protects HaeWoo is you. If you don’t want HaeWoo to face her downfall, then bury everything.”

Yisoo shakes his head as he adjusts his tie, “are you threatening me using your granddaughter?”

“It’s not a threat, but a negotiation”

“You picked the wrong person to threaten.  I am the one who wants to see your granddaughter in despair the most”

Grandpa Jo laughs, “Are you sure? “

“Of course”

“My thoughts are different.  You can fool yourself, but you can’t fool love”
