Great Music in Dramaland

Once upon a time, there was a girl, not so little I confess. She used to go around the world, real and digital, collecting images and sounds. Beautiful images, beautiful sounds. She found Argentinean tangos and Italian operas, American mainstream and European films. And she was happy. And then, one rainy day, not so long ago, she stepped on a Korean movie with English subtitles. And that was it. She never knew what hit her. She left the entire world aside and let herself dive into this Eastern culture which, until then, she knew nothing about. She watched some more movies, she got into dramas. She fell for the stories, the actors, the scenery, the culture, even the language which sounded so strange in her European ears…


Does this story sound familiar? I am sure that between those lines you kind of found yourselves. It is not a fairy tale. It is an addiction we all share.


But today let’s talk about music that covers all those dramas we love. Have you ever thought that the most popular dramas besides great stories and actors are those with great music? Nice music, touching lyrics, great voices… (By the way, are all Koreans good singers?) I am pretty sure you have. And here I am to let you take a glimpse on my top 5 songs in Dramaland.


5. “Another Time, Another Sky” by Joo Hee - Queen Inhyun’s Man


It sounds a bit traditional without losing the essence of 21st Century at all, just like this great drama does. Great music for a nice drama. (And it is a plus that the chemistry of the actors of this drama is really unique and extraordinary).


4. “What Should I Do?” - Jang Geun Suk in You're Beautiful

It is a nice song but Jang Geun Suk's voice is actually so good that I think I loved this drama (and all the dramas he is leading) just because of his voice. He would sound sexy even if he was just reading the phone book I guess.



3. “Destino” - The Princess’ Man


I was watching this drama and every time I heard this music I was just wondering: “Oh no! Whose head is going to fall now?”  “Destino” has in its notes and its six words of lyrics, all the tragedy that only Italian operas have.  Of course there is this Italian language in which you can say the most trivial things and make them sound tragic and sentimental.



 2. "I Will Forget You”  - Jong Yong Hwa, Park Shin Hye in Heartstrings  

I totally loved the whole OST of Heartstrings but this song is just laying on my heart like a warm blanket. Although it is heartbreaking, you can find a glimpse of hope in it. I loved it, with her voice, with his voice, in Korean mainly - in any version, you name it.



What can I say about this beautiful song? In fact this song was the one that made me take in serious Korean music as the lead and not just the background. Great music, great heartbreaking lyrics and beautiful Ali’s voice are making a song for which you can do nothing but hear it over and over again. I loved it in English, in Korean and I am sure that I would love it even if Ali had sung it in Martian.
