2024 Manga Adaptations (January - June)
Inspired by Emmy's article China's Celebrity Couples That Were Couples in Dramas/Movies, I decided to do one on Japanese couples :) I'll be sharing the ones that starred together in dramas/movies (not exclusively as couples) before or after they got together. And I'll focus only on those that are still together (whether married or in a relationship).
I guess what people find really intriguing about this is the guaranteed chemistry between a couple. It's definitely more romantic when you know that they're in love in real life too. Feel free to mention the ones I missed in the comment section. So let's check them out!
Oguri Shun ♥️ Yamada Yu
Oguri and Yamada met on the set of Binbo Danshi and tied the knot four years later on March 14th, 2012. There wasn't much (or any) romance in that drama, but they did share some cute scenes together. They have two children, born in 2014 and 2017. There have been some rumors about his possible infidelity, but I'm not sure if any of it has been confirmed as his career hasn't been affected.
Miho Kanno ♥️ Masato Sakai
Miho and Masato starred together in The Castle of Crossed Destinies, and their chemistry was more than evident. The film, set in feudal-era Japan, depicts a court ruled by a fictional matriarchy (Kanno) who enjoys the company of 3,000 men (ahem, lovers), until one day a new man (Sakai) comes into the court, and changes her life forever. They got married in 2013, only three months of dating, and now have two children born in 2015 and 2018.
Odagiri Joe ♥️ Yuu Kashii
Kashii and Odagiri met on the set of The Pavillion Salamandre in 2006, an odd comedy about an X-ray genius (Odagiri) and a mystery surrounding a salamander. They announced their marriage in 2008. The couple’s first son was born in 2011, the second in 2014 (unfortunately passed away due to Ileus in 2015), and the third in 2016. The couple is known for keeping their private life very private. Apparently, it was Odagiri who fell madly in love with Kashii who was only 18 at the time of filming.
Riisa Naka ♥️ Akiyoshi Nakao
Riisa and Akiyoshi met on the set of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time in 2010 but it wasn't until Tsurukame Josanin in 2012 that they really started dating. They had been friends for years before shocking the public with their announcement of marriage in 2013. They have a son born that same year, and they are also known as a fun couple who love sharing their life updates on social media.
Atsuko Maeda ♥️ Ryo Katsuji
Fans were devastated when they found out the news of the former AKB48 member Atsuko's marriage in 2018. She and Ryo first met on the set of Dokonjo Gaeru in 2015 and co-starred again in Woman Who Eats in 2018 when they started dating. They have one son born in 2019.
Masataka Kubota ♥️ Asami Mizukawa
The happy couple officially submitted their marriage papers on September 21, 2019. They started dating during the filming of drama Fugitive Boys in 2017, in which they co-starred together. Even though they weren't the main couple, apparently they quickly fell in love.
Koyuki ♥️ Kenichi Matsuyama
Koyuki and Kenichi met on the set of Kamui Gaiden in 2009, and it took Kenichi two years to win her hand. Apparently, she thought he was immature (he's 8 years younger than her). But love won, and now they have three children and are regarded as the strongest couple in the show-business.
Aoi Miyazaki ♥️ Junichi Okada
Aoi Miyazaki and V6 member Junichi Okada’s love reportedly began while the two were shooting the 2008 drama Flowers in the Shadows, in which they played a married couple. They got married in 2017 and have one child together. They also co-starred in the 2012 historical drama Tenchi: The Samurai Astronomer.
Hiroshi Tamaki ♥️ Haruka Kinami
They met in 2010 but it wasn't until 2017 when they starred together in Fuji TV's drama Onna no Kunshou (this drama special had some very interesting scenes) that their relationship became romantic in nature. They got married in 2018 and seem to be a very happy couple.
Takei Emi ♥️ TAKAHIRO
Emi and Takahiro starred together in Detective Designated for Assignment in 2014. Apparently, they started dating around that time, but it wasn't until 2017 that they revealed her pregnancy and their marriage. However, this romance was seen as a breach of contract and affected Emi's career - some CM and roles were cancelled, but that didn't stop them.
Mukai Osamu ♥️ Kuninama Ryoko
Osamu and Ryoko starred together in 2012 drama Hungry! and they played lovers. As you can see from the pic above, it is spicy! That's when they started dating and got married in 2014. They have three children together.

I was unsure whether to post this because of the recent scandal. Higashide Masahiro and Watanabe Anne are technically still together, but having in mind the toxicity that their marriage turned out to be, I'm not sure that's a good idea.
Anyway, here's to the happier times when they starred together in Gochisousan and apparently fell in love. They have three children together, so I hope Anne will find a way out of this mess!
