A well made horror drama with amazing cast !!
Yassss !!! Finally, I finished it. It was such an amazing drama. The saying of "Regret didn't watch it soon, was this drama for me".Things I liked:
😊 First of all, for the time, it's set in. The CGI of the effect is pretty appreciable. Even though it wasn't scary to me as people say but yeah it was praiseworthy !!
😊 Loved the whole cast, actually not much find of a clingy fl but Gong Hyo Jin's portrayal made me love the character, really have to check her works more and So Ji Sub was sooo funny and fine. And Seo In Guk was the best for me, he was soo hot.
😊Actually, the plot was well-written and interesting hooked me up till the end. The pacing was good and the osts were fine too.
Things I didn't like
😫The only one which was a letdown, some parts were draggy for me, like I've to convince myself to go ahead !!, a little bit of editing like decreasing the time would've made it perfect for me.
For a drama set in 2013, it so impressed me. I was laughing so much especially "Kang Candy" and "Get Lost" lol. So 9/10 for me !!
Do check it, drama guys !!

Could have been amazing
This drama was a fun combination of thriller/ghost horror and poor gal gets saved by rich, mean guy. Gong Hyo Jin did a fantastic job bringing Tae Gong Shil's insecurities and fears to life while standing up for herself when people treated her poorly. I enjoyed the way in which she was learning to live with ghosts and strive make her life better. However (and I know this will be an unpopular opinion), I felt So Ji Sub's performance lacked depth and dimension. He seemed to be the same person throughout the drama, never getting to actually show his transformation.
There is a major flaw in this drama that happens near the end. The characters act completely out of the norm of what you have seen throughout the show. This threw me off. Furthermore, the dramatic revelation and story about Joong Won's deceased lover was told in a sloppy and confusing way, and I barely cared about it. Those flaws are things I cannot overlook. The time used around these parts could have been executed differently in a way that grew the relationship between the main leads, but it didn't seem to do that.

A romantic supernatural thriller done right
After watching hundreds of dramas I finally went back to one of my first dramas to see if it really was as good as I remembered it. It was! It’s now 2020 and this drama from 2013 is still quite fresh and surprisingly modern. The clothes are quite nice and the cinematography is really good. I can’t believe it’s an older drama. The female lead can see ghosts which terrifies her. And the male lead is the only person who has ever been able to get rid of them for her by her just touching him. I know the storyline seems a bit unbelievable and very cliche. But the acting is extremely good. And the underlying message of accepting yourself and being the best you can be under your circumstances comes through brilliantly.
I like that the second male lead is nice and never creates trouble. And the cute clumsy second female lead isn’t too bad either. The drama is driven by the different stories involving helping various ghosts, figuring out the culprit behind the male leads childhood kidnapping, and the female lead dealing with her ability to see ghosts. There’s just a tad bit of office politics and family issues but it doesn’t take center stage. There's angst but not too much, there’s sadness but not for long, there’s several cute couples, and there’s lots of cute romantic moments.
Its not a super deep melodrama, nor is it a romcom. It’s a romance driven drama with lots of supernatural stuff, a kidnapping/murder mystery and it has lots of character growth. Overall it’s an enjoyable watch with a good romance and an interesting plot. I’d definitely recommend it.

Overal I found this drama refreshing but also lacking that depth of emotion. (Especially those frozen kiss scenes, way to torture a girl!)

So when I started watching the drama, it kind of took me by storm. And what an amazingly mind blowing storm it was, one that I would love to get lost again.
Why? here are my reasons :
The cast...wow! That probably say all.
So Ji-sub who played Joo Joong Won or President Joo was amazing. Throughout this whole drama we can see this unchangeable person change for this crazy girl, he meet. This cold person warming up to his sun. And his expressions were perfect. Every time So Ji-sub said "Get lost" I would literally scream. Lol but true.
Tae Gong Shil is my favorite Ghostbuster. Gong Hyo-jin was really cool considerate how difficult her character was. And then the personality changes, those were awesome. Loved that.
I have never felt this bad for the 2nd lead male in my life as much as I felt bad for Kang Woo. but Seo In-guk made me root for his character. The fact that Kang Woo's character didn't got over shadowed by President Joo's says how good of a actor Seo In-guk is.
Tae Ri Ryung, she was a pain in the ass wasn't she. I first thought that she was the evil one. Which she was but not that kind. And I liked the silent chemistry between Kim Yoo-ri and Seo In-guk. I thought there story was another version of President Joo and Tae's. Or maybe that was just me?
The others were also amazing. Secretary Kim was my favorite.
I chose this drama because it had the word 'ghost' in it. So when I started watching episode 1 I realized it wasn't what I thought it was but what I needed. A breath of fresh air. The story was different something I haven't seen. And I like how it made me kind of obsessed over it. The writers did a really good job. I almost cried in episode 12. Which is something that has never happened - except for watching Titanic, but everyone cries over it. I'm probably going to look for more of Hong sisters work now. The story was funny and full of sweetness.
I loved the side stories and how they helped to evolved the characters. My favorite was episode 6 which was about the bond between a dog and his owner. Since I'm a dog lover myself, I loved that one more then others. Another one was episode 5. That ghost story was really sweet. someone should use it as a base for another drama. It would be called, "Beyond death" or something like that.
The ending theme song - rock guitar version of 'who are you' - is now my ring tone. The others are in my 'all time favorite play list' specially 'Crazy for you' and 'Day & night'.....LOVE them.
In short...
Awesome drama. Amazing cast. Wonderful songs. Everything and everything in it will make laugh and love. Cause who doesn't love a happy ending that's as sweet as So Ji Sub's smile?
So, one just has to watch it. Has to watch it.

ANYWAYS, so im new to kdrama, so forgive me if I make any mistakes in this review or mislead you in any way. I only recently switched over from anime/manga to dramas.
So far, the story has been interesting. If theres one thing I hate, its shows that dont have a main storyline and only focus on random tasks.(kind of like fillers.) Thats what I originally thought this show would be like; I didnt want to watch a drama based on seperate ghost stories and nothing else. but DO NOT WORRY! there is definitely a good solid plot to this that carries on throughout the entire thing. It takes a good portion of the episodes up, too.
And then there are the characterss...ahhh!! what can I say

The script came off as very amateur like which made the show hard to watch as I found it pathetic. It generally followed this basic plot (mostly in the 1st few episodes) - someone dies; their ghost bothers Tae Kong Sil for help; Tae Kong clings to Joong Won at every chance she gets while fulfilling the ghosts request; some unrealistic and pridictable climax occurs where ghosts request is completed so it does some cheezy interaction with its living loved ones before finally leaving. Things improved a bit in later episodes but the grassroot problems remained constant enough throughout the drama to mark down its quality.
There's just so many things wrong with this drama that made it unbearable to watch. None of the important relationships are scripted well enough to make sense or feel natural. The CEO of a company puts up with this random woman clinging onto him with very minor resistance because she claims he makes ghosts disappear (I mean she's survived b4 she met him so wtf). She survived for so long with ghosts but still freaks out at every ghost she meets (was kinda cute but still stupid). And they try so hard to scare you with every ghost scene (which got annoying fast cause I'm like get on with the story already, there are more clever ways of being scary sheesh). Much of the plot felt like a copy and paste from other dramas (even characters) so you get bombarded with cliche drama stuff used in boring and predictable ways (least they could do is use cliche stuff in interesting ways). The list could go on and on really.
If youre looking for a romantic ghost story with more intelligence and a plot that isnt this sloppy then I'd reccommend Arang and the Magistrate. This was just a bad waste of time imo.

The plot was so unique! We've all seen rich guy falls for poor girl dramas before, but The Master's Sun takes everything to a new level! It didn't feel at all like other dramas. The pacing throughout the whole show was really good, though towards the end there was definitely a push-pull feeling. But aside from that, the plot and pacing were great! Things were revealed at the perfect time and the mystery aspect of the show made it really interesting.
The acting, of course was phenomenal. I've seen both So Ji Sub and Gong Hyo Jin in several other shows/movies, but seeing them act together was wonderful! They had great chemistry and were a very quirky couple. All of the other actors were great too! I actually think that I liked all of the characters in this show (except for the antagonist that shows up). The side characters were just as entertaining as the main characters! I found that by the end of the show I wanted to see the other characters get a good ending as well as our main leads.
I really liked the soundtrack as well! It was a beautiful combination of instrumental and vocal pieces. I appreciated that the songs weren't over used. I could barely tell when there was background music, because it blended so well into what was happening.
Overall, I really enjoyed The Master's Sun. Though it dragged a little bit after episode 12/13 the show was still great. It was funny, mysterious, creepy, sad, etc. It even made me cry at a point or two! I'm really glad that I finally got around to The Master's Sun and would recommend it to anyone who's looking for something fresh!

Overall - 4.5 (it's like a "Candy". nothing else)
Story - 5.0 (Fair. You can actually miss a lot of episodes and still not get lost or miss something big in the story)
Acting - 7.0 (Good. Great casts in here but not the material that brought out their best in acting)
Music - 5.0 (Fair. i love OST''s but this drama overdid the placing of the songs. It is like a one big MV drama. Almost took 1/4th of the time in each episodes.
Replay Value - 1.0 (pressed the fast forward button on the last 2 episodes just to finish the drama)
