I'm a scardy cat n I can never watch scary movies or dramas by myself. Luckily, I got my cousin to watch this with me n I'm glad we watched it. We marathon it in 2 days n we do not regret not sleeping.
What a unique story cuz there's not very many of these type of dramas in kdrama land. Actually, I don't recall watchin anything like this. Being haunted can't even imagine how that would feel. But oh LOOK, there's a safe haven. It's a super hot CEO. Gosh I love meaningful stories. You help others in order for them to move on cuz it rly means a lot w unfinished business. There's this rly sexy guy who can protect u from these scary stuff. Who doesn't get freak out especially girls!!
Come on!! It's so ji sub and gong hyo Jin. They're the daebak actors of kdrama industry!! They can act no doubts.
Ost is perfect for this drama!! The feels the feels
I would love to watch this again but I can't rly watch it without a buddy. It's scary alright but as u get use to it, u find it cool n amazing. They're so flawless make up!! Except popping out of nowhere can freak the heck out of human kind.
This is rly a masterpiece n u gotta watch it no matter what.

And Why?
Firstly, the story:
I have to point out that when i read the plot summery for this show I was a little wary about actually watching it. Was it the whole ghost thing? Was it the actors? I can't put my finger on it but there were just something about the whole thing that just felt no good. However I decided to just watch it and oh dear was I lucky I did.
Yes the story differ from your other typical korean dramas out there. It takes a different and more bold turn compared to other romantic comedies out there. This is not one of the many love stories of boy meets girl and love arises. The whole story depend on the scars of our two main leads and how they grow as people. Also how important they find the other person to be. Sure one of the biggest storyline factors is the whole - Let's talk to ghost and solve mysteries. Ending up helping the both of them and they come to make a deal to aid one and other. It's not dark tho, even with all the ghosts. It's also an extremely funny series with a lot of interesting and cute catchphrases. The show hold up so well on what it want's to be. Its romantic, funny and interesting but also include the darker and more sadder parts, that comes naturally when death is part of the whole deal. It's about moving on and and letting go, which I find to be a good balance.
Secondly, the cast:
Here's the true shine of the drama. The actors and actresses are making such an amazing job at being the characters they portraying. They make me believe they are real and that this story and the lives included in it are all part of the reality, at least it makes me wish it was.
Gong Hyo Jin plays our female main lead, the ghost- stalked medium. She starts out as the scared but brave woman that is in this bizarre situation but still tries her best at helping the new people that she encounters. By the end she is more comfortable and seem to have gotten used to being what she is.
I must say that she is amazing, not just as Tae, but as an actress. She really bring this character to life and I found myself to sympathize with her rather often.
Our main male lead, So Ji Sub had me confused in the beginning. After all, I couldn't get if it was he's acting or the character that was stone faced and inexpressive, but as I continued watching I realized that it really didn't matter. He gave the character life and I ended up loving him alot.
The other characters, like the Aunt, The uncle, Model and rival, security guard and all them ghosts could be mentioned and talked about, but for me, they never seemed to matter sense all my focus was on the main characters and their wonderful chemistry. All in all I would say that all of them did a great job and fitted perfectly for their roles.
Funny thing to point out tho, I talked about the generic love story in my latest review and how in that show it was executed poorly and all. Fun thing is that Master's sun does the same kind of cliche generic love story concept too, of course with it's own twists, but you don't think about it really.
Joo Goon actually symbolizes a savior in Tae's eyes. Because with him near her she can rest without having ghosts bugging her all the time. And putting it that way than she kind of looks like the weak and klutzy, not to say odd, female lead. But all that ends up just being the concept of the characters. They end up creating something more, and less generic and typical.
I can finally say that I stumbled upon a show with an epic and outright wonderful OST! The music in this show is by far one of the best one. It captures every feeling and tone of the show, whether it's the dramatic scenes, the ghostly moments, the "Epic and awesome" timing or the romantic themes. All music is there and all fits precisely right! I have found so damn many soundtracks that I love to listen to over and over again!
When you watch a show that leaves you empty, excited and overly in love with it then it's easy to say that you'll watch it again, maybe more than once or twice even. And that is the feeling I'm having about this show. I really want to sit down someday in the future and just watch it from beginning to end, all over again. Because I just know that when I've done that I will feel just as amazed and happy as I did the first time.
Overall and lastly, Master's sun is so many things at the same time and I've seen shows that have done the exact same thing before and fell down... like waaaaay down. However this one didn't fall, all these themes and emotions made it fly up instead. You get thrown around an emotional roller coaster, but by the end you feel it was worth the ride and that you wouldn't mind doing it again.
Master's sun is different, odd and unique, but it's beautiful and it gives you a story that doesn't leave you disappointed.
Mivaaaa

Relatively very pleasant but lacking in emotional resonance
The Master”s Sun is objectively, a very pleasant watch. The story is very easy to follow with great insertions of mystery , thrill , comedy , horror and romance . The writers really executed balance in all ways in this drama for sure. However, as I finish the title - I’m left with an overwhelming sense of lack lustre feelings . The romances were not that emotionally gripping , the love declaration scenes were not noteworthy. Moreover , I personally felt the romances were immature in nature . There seemed to be numerous misunderstandings but coupled with a lot of communication which did not make sense in the end. On the flip side - I do like how this drama had a period feel to it . Where one touch of the hand did more than a racy scene . That was nice . Plus the side romances are quite sweet too.
Then there were the ghosts . The format of ghost story of the week was plausibily engaging. But subjectively I was not a fan in the beginning and found sone of the ghost stories in the first half of the drama quite wearisome.
As for the acting - I wouldn’t say it was mind blowing but definitely special mention to Gong Hyo -Jin. She acted her part perfectly. The male lead was kind of lacking to be honest . The comedy was spot on but his emotional pathos seemed a bit trying which was odd because he was so great and tortured in I’m Sorry, I Love You. Perhaps it was his script that imprisoned his charisma.? Because he came across as stilted .
The music was lovely. Loved the sing along Touch Love and Hyorin’s Driving Me Crazy was beautiful.
I’m not a rewatch fan generally speaking but sometimes I can be swayed but not this time .
Overall- it’s actually a good show and I can see the hype surrounding it but subjectively speaking - I failed to see its emotional resonance .

I am truly grateful that the villains were mild and more like comedy relief than the normal psycho-sociopaths you find in dramas like Hundred Year Inheritance or Bread Love and Dreams.
I do wish the physical transformations were as wonderful as the character transformations. I found it a bit lacking compared to most.

Detail:
It's Hong Sisters so... does it need more description? :)
Gong Hyo-Jin is the main in this one for me, her character has the ability to see ghosts and ever since it started she's been terrified by their sight and unable to sleep properly or live in the world properly. When she discovers the So Ji-Sub's character has the ability to make the ghost world temporarily go away when she touches him, and finds that he needs to hear from a dead girlfriend to find out what happened in his past - the two are forced to spend time together.
What results are some comic escapades as the two are from such completely different worlds as those worlds collide, and hard!
There are numerous stories about how she is able to help the living and the dead through her ability to communicate with them, and she gains confidence in doing so as she realises she can run to Ji-Sub's character if it gets too much.
The sound track on this one is absolutely fantastic, numerous songs on here that make my playlist now!
Definitely worth the watch!

This drama nailed nearly all the aspects for a good drama. So Ji Sub and Gong Hyo Jin delivered a masterful performance expected from senior actors. The ML's little traits made the show a whole lot better, such as his "get out" hand movements. The FL really matured a lot throughout this drama. Even with frustrating moments for the views towards the end, I was impressed by the FL. Likewise with the ML. Gong Hyo Jin is so adorably cute too. I think parts of the drama was too melo for a rom-com however. The other couples were a nice addition as well. Questa recensione ti è stata utile?

The most successful romantic-comedy horror I've watched
This is one of those drama that gives you a roller coaster ride of emotion from laughing, to being scared, to being sad, to being mad and to feeling in love. The plot is masterfully created by making a one big storyline going in the background incorporated with mini stories you can look forward every episode. It keeps the hype going maybe except from the fact that the mini stories overpowered the main mystery. It was going good until the last few episodes which really fell flat for me although overall I still really love this drama.
As for the casts, I can still remember having a second lead syndrome when I first watched this on 2015. Seo InGuk is just so damn cute. During this second time I watched it, I realized how Gong HyoJin and So JiSub really has a good chemistry on screen. I'm a big fan of the dramas they starred on together and always loved how great they always deliver. Gong Hyo Jin being possessed GongSil is one of the most memorable scenes I can always remember.
The other casts also played really well making the story more flavorful. The ghost stories every episode is almost realistic that I actually thought that ghosts maybe are not really that scary. They just really have some unfinished business down here.
The soundtrack used here is one of the best soundtrack I've ever remembered in the K-Drama world. It matches the drama very well and most of all it retains on my mind.
Overall, this drama is still one of the classics in the K-Drama world and I still regard with high quality and high probability of re-watching.

well! this has all the tropes ......
wel, it has pretty interesting plot, and great chemistry between main leads. this drama is good . i liked every moment of it from start to finish. it never felt boring.there are some pretty cheesy moments in this where u will feel like 'really do u have to' but in the end they together will make the drama so much better then it would be without them.also at first the main lead was freaking cold and rough but later he turned into such a kind and romantic person that we expect from every kdrama male lead
my expectations wasn't so high. but in the end I was satisfied. {but till now i didnt understood that why the ghosts disappeared by touching jo jong won.......} they should have cleared this....
