The main reason for this is the character of Daimon Michiko played by Yonekura Ryoko. She makes the wide-eyed, constantly calm, mysterious and confident character (she goes dancing every night!!) so captivating that u just want to know more about her. The story seems extremely realistic but different at the same time.
The other actors too have done a pretty good job in playing their parts. This drama mainly shows us how Daimon Michiko does her job as a doctor without being hindered by the bureaucratic nature of the hospital.
This drama is a MUST watch because trust me it will always keep you interested. (She is kinda like a super hero :P)
I'm eagerly waiting for the next episodes!!

The lead is a charismatic figure who follows her own set of rules and refuses to do anything that can be done without a license. She loves being a surgeon but hate the politics that go along with it. She basically just shows up does her job, to perfection, and leaves once the time is up.
The plot line is great, something sort of original for once. If you ignore the formulaic screenwriting and catchphrases typical of a jdorama then you'll find it awesome. The plot visits the side of healthcare that people don't really get to see: the politics, the bureaucracy, the mountains of paperwork, and the sycophantic underlings. And of course the gossip and the backstabbing.
The acting is good, but seeing as there haven't been any difficult scenes that require more substantial acting, we can't really call it spectacular. But the actors did a good job of owning the characters, Yonekura pulled Daimon off wonderfully and the other actors were convincing enough that I have no complaints.
This drama is definitely one to stick to. Expect a lot of mystery, politics, backstabbing, and impossibly difficult surgeries in this refreshingly different medical drama.

Why I watch this drama in the first place? Simply because I am a big fan of medical dramas. Coincidentally I stumbled across this drama and there, I watch it and end up hooked.
Story: I've watch plenty of medical dramas. But this one, has one of the best story, I can say! The storyline is original, unique, and really interesting. The surgery scenes are realistic (never been watching a REAL surgery but speaking from hours of watching medical dramas experiences). If you look for dirty hospital politics, this drama has the dirtiest hospital politics you can imagine. It left your jaw hanging, it makes you want to pull some hairs off the doctors' scalp. This drama gives you various emotions throughout the series.
Casts: The main attraction of this drama, IMO. Yonekura Ryoko and Daimon Michiko officially becomes one of my favorite character & actress. Her acting is terrific, and her character is very charismatic. Badass, carefree, but brilliant surgeon, portrayed really well. The supporting character is outstanding as well (I especially loved Jonouchi). Definitely deserved a 10/10
Music: Nothing remarkable
Rewatch Value: Truthfully, I never rewatch the dramas I've watched. But this drama, I think I would want to rewatch it sometime in the future. This is a drama that will never get me bored.
Overall: this drama is definitely one of the best medical drama I've ever watched. The character especially is interesting and charismatic. The storyline is unique, and progressed well. The only flaw of the storyline is the ending which left hanging (which, fortunately, continued to the second season). The surgery scene is realistic & educational (!). And if you look for dirty hospital politics, you've come to the right place :)
P.S: A little snippets to the second season: expect even dirtier hospital politics!

Doctor X is about a freelance surgeon named Daimon Michiko who is not a fan of authority or hospital politics. She's a damn good surgeon too! She never fails, and she makes sure to let everyone know it. She's a strong female character, and I really love her. Except she does this weird thing with her eyes where she opens then really wide (idk in an attempt to think?). Anyways, due to her brash personality, she butts heads with almost all the staff and it's fun to watch everyone finally come to admire/appreciate her skills. The rest of the cast is great as well, and the music is pretty catchy.
Although the story is pretty simple, Doctor X manages to pull me in. It just has tht thing only jdramas have. This is the perfect drama to marathon for when ur bored. Actually, it kinda reminds me of Gokusen in a way, with how it ended. Although I haven't seen Doctor X 2 yet, I imagine tht it's probably gonna deal with Daimon in a new hospital with a new surgical team. Anyways, in my opinion, it's not a must-see, but i ttly recommend it!

Entertaining
This was a spaghetti western about teaching hospital politics. Our anti heroine, Daimon sensaiIs ‘the woman with no name’ out to save the patients ignoring all the politics behind . This refreshing revolutionary idea is the reason why the drama is so successful. Season 7 has been launched in 2021. Unlike other medical drama, the medical conditions were easy to follow and it was not emotional draining. Therefore ideal for a relaxing weekend watch as light entertainment. Yonekurasan was excellent as the maverick doctor. Just watching her in action against the limited knowledge academic surgeons who could not operate was amusing. She portrayed the rebel trait wit flair. She was well supported by veteran medical drama actors. That’s a good reason why you will like this drama. For the anti-hero sentiment, the original soundtrack also included whistling sections which one associates with spaghetti western. A deliberate stab at the establishment. I strongly recommend it.

An Unexpectedly Fun and Interesting Medical Drama
This is a review of all of season 1 and part of season 2, though there are no spoilers.I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting much from this drama. Based on my prior experiences with Jdramas and some confliction over the premise, I actually expected to drop it after a few episodes. Regardless, in my endless hunt for a drama where the female's skills are not continuously overpassed by their male counterparts, I decided to try it out, and I'm delighted to say that I was pleasantly surprised.
Perhaps it's the addictive nature of watching a character constantly exceed the expectations of her peers, but I could not get enough of this show, and watched the entire first season in one sitting. Luckily that wasn't too difficult, as a single season is 8 one hour episodes long, which is typically where other dramas start to peter out. In addition, the whole constantly-impressing-others gimmick remains fresh since the main character switches hospitals every season.
The main character Daimon Michiko's personality may seem off-putting at first, but she is generally redeemed by her boundless empathy for patients, and the endless measures she takes to cure them. Also, she is a person of incredible skill (hence her catchphrase "I never fail") which in part makes up for her arrogance. And, regardless, it's always fun to see other character's great pride destroyed by her when she outclasses them in surgery.
A saving grace of the show's otherwise impersonal tone is Michiko's manager, a delightfully happy man who skips down the hall with a melon in hand whenever it's time to collect a bill. The scenes with him are always surprisingly soothing, as Michiko lowers her guard and speaks openly and familiarly with him about surgeries, politics, and hospital gossip. Although there's a hint he may be taking advantage of her for money, you can tell they genuinely have a strong relationship.
Of course, as with any show, it's not all sunshine and rainbows and perfect storytelling. There is some noticeable repetition in parts of the plot and quite a bit in the score as well, and a great deal of plot armor surrounding Michiko herself. There's also a bit of unrealism in that supposedly renowned doctors often makes mistakes that she can fix in an instant, although this is somewhat explained away by the premise of a failing hospital system. There isn't so much character arcs as relationship arcs, as different side characters' feelings about Michiko change over time, but this is still interesting to watch, and shows don't always need to contain character arcs to be entertaining.
Although it's difficult to pinpoint any more particular downfalls, I will say that this is no masterpiece, but more like a guilty pleasure. Something that's not going make you feel super emotional, or change the way you see the world, but it will be something fun to watch when you need to relax or procrastinate (I can personally attest to that last part). For that reason, I would definitely recommend this drama (it comes without saying to those who have no aversion to medical dramas).

75% comedic fiction, 20% medical drama, can't we have at least 5% romance please
I think this is my fav japanese show. Some may not be medically accurate but it's realistic enough to be believable. I don't have to lose some IQ to enjoy the show. The show even tried to incorporate what it was like for the medical frontliners during the Covid-19 pandemic. It was a wise decision.
I love the way they made the comedic parts, it's feels like watching a real time anime. Just like how the show always ends with Doctor X either eating lots of meat or enjoying a dip at the public bath house.
The show maybe 75% comedic fiction, 20% medical drama, but I would really like it to have at least 5% romance.
I like it enough, to willingly watch another season.
