the thing I appreciated the most was the diversity. they had 2 couple who already knew each other and 2 that "met" as the movie started. one was divorced, one was in an abusive relationship, one left the country cuz of the work stress, one left the country over a heartbreak, one was in a interracial relationship, one was disabled, one was raised outside the country, 2 had stubble❣ and so it gave a nice worldwide view of things.

people are different and that's what makes us all shine.

I didn't appreciate the meeting between Lee Jae Heon and Min Jin Ah, kwriters always think they need to bicker before falling in love and 2 seconds later LJH turned out to be a sweet person. Kang Ji Ho and Lee Hyo Young also started that way but it was more understandable cuz KJH was the "rough" ragged yet clumsy type while LHY was more head strong.

the things I loved
the google translator scene between Chen Du Ling and Yeom Hye Ran xD
the "accidental" eavesdropping between Han Oh Wol and Kim Rae Hwan, kdramas never use eavesdropping for good xD
Han Oh Wol and Kim Rae Hwan was really really sweet I wish it was longer ;(
the ending between Kang Ji Ho and Lee Hyo Young
Kim Kang Woo and Yoo Yeon Seok in stubble❤❤❤❤
the smooth transitions between characters at times, like they all "knew" each other but they weren't friends or anything

the things I didn't like
it had too many couple too little time
some of the "tension" and conflict was boring
the bickering
it was too short ;(

A healing new year vibed movie

Lighthearted romance filled with balanced comedy, the cast was amazing and plot was slow at first but slowly gained momentum and hooked me on in the later part. Was lightheated, kind of slice-of-life movie, with 4 different couple's stories, which all characters are linked to each other but not really as not all the cast was in one scene altogether. Ending was quite vague, making me think there will be a season 2 but that doesn't seem plausible. Casting Chen Duling with Yeom Hyeran was absolutely hilarious ! Also, this movie kind of gave 'Run-On' vibes with Sooyoung in it.

Lighthearted but boring story of love!

New Year Blues tells the different story of 4 couples, two of them in established relationships trying to fix their problems and the other two getting to know each other and developing emotions. Stories are more like 4 short films by 4 set of crews that instead of being shown separately and in order are edited as a whole but it isn't much disjointed. All other reviews are positive so I think a more mixed one wouldn't hurt!

Acting: There wasn't much of a character development or growth in this film and actors did good with what little material they had. I liked their easy portrayals.

Story:1. A policeman protecting a woman from her seemingly psychopath soon-to-be-ex husband.2. The woman is a trainer at the rehab center and one of her trainees is a Snowboard champion who has recently proposed to his girlfriend but there obstacles waiting on their way. 3. The girlfriend works in a greenhouse ad delivers plants to a café run by a single woman whose brother has a travel agency and is going to marry a Chinese girl. But he gets embezzled and his fiancé's high expectations for a grand Chinese wedding and other expenses don't help his case. 4. A man broke up with his girlfriend and tells her to divide their saved money, she takes the money instead and goes to travel agency and buys a trip to Argentina where she meets a rather cold and unfriendly Korean man.....

Characters going to each others' workplaces or working together and the fact that the film didn't stay on a couple for too long help us to grasp the story better and not to lose the process of the others. Except the Argentina plot where the only connection to real story is girl calling travel agency and doing some work in Snowboard competitions ( I didn't get what was her job) and is almost completely separate from the other 3 plots, the other are woven together loosely.

Conclusion: All in all, The New Year Blues, isn't a deep or interesting film that keeps you at the edge of your seat but it's good background entertainment and gives rather positive messages about love, trust, commitment, etc of course if you can sit through all of it without dropping or skipping as it's rather boring and tiring.

Rewatch value: I'm not the kind of person to watch something more than once or twice and this film doesn't include in my exception list so I think once is enough.

Love can make you happier than you have ever been^^

It was pretty refreshing to be able to watch Korea’s rendition of it, which featured a spectacular star-studded cast list including Kim Kang Woo, Yoo In Na, Yoo Yeon Seok, Lee Yeon Hee, Lee Dong Hwi, Chen Du Ling, Yeom Hye Ran, Girls’ Generation’s Choi Soo Young and Yoo Teo.

I shall not go into the details of the story (as it would be a spoiler) but in simple words – it is a pretty lighthearted movie, capable of making you relate to it somehow. It touched on many small but important aspects of life, covering stories with themes relating to breakups, loneliness, healing, multicultural-marriage, and also the search for life’s meaning. The simple everyday moments definitely makes it relatable and could possibly make you feel reflective as well.

Another aspect of the film which I truly enjoyed was that I could re-live the travel memories while watching the film. Being travel-deprived for the past one year, watching scenes and locations of Seoul on the big screen (with Namsan Tower in the background) definitely brought some warmth to my heart and reminded me how much I wished I was there. There was another story with a ski field setting and it reminded me of snow and my skiing experiences. Furthermore, the cast even flew to Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina for the movie! There were many beautiful destinations featured, including the famous and majestic Iguazu Falls. I’m not sure about you but it felt really good to enjoy ‘traveling’ while watching a movie.

Whether you are a rom-com fan or someone looking for a feel-good movie, this is definitely a good pick and the eye candies are really pretty too!

Fun, fluffy, film...

This movie is a pretty ok, nothing special really, but it has some pretty good stories, that I wish would have gotten a movie each instead of had to share it...

The different couples in this movie show different sides of life and have almost nothing in common, yet do share several connections (other than geography).

Most of the characters in this movie are relatable, sweet, fun and lovable... Some slightly annoying and we there are some pretty evil ones too... but they are just a small part of the whole.

We have one couple that shows us both the less beutiful and more beautiful side of divorce and domestic abuse.

Another one who teach us the value of communication and sharing ones troubles with ones spouse

A third Showing the pain of burn out and trying to find ones way back...

But my favorite couple was the one with the paralympics athlete who is treated as a disability there to inspire and sell emotional porn that focuses more on the girlfriend than his achievements...

Making this a pretty fluffy dare I say healing movie (even though I hate that word) worth a watch

Heartwarming stories of 4 couples during the New Years!

As soon as I saw the cast, I knew I need to see this film! This film is filled with a list of my favorite actors and actresses and I’ve always loved seeing films that have actors and actresses I’m familiar with. In addition, I was eager to see Chen Du Ling in a Korean movie since I loved her in Left Ear!

The film was good—it was heartwarming, sweet and nostalgic. I really love a Christmas/New Years film as they are both my favorite holidays and it brought back all the good memories I always have on that particular days. The feelings depicted in this movie was great! The romance were not too overly romantic, and it was the perfect amount of sweetness and angst. The warmness radiated from the endings of those 4 incredible stories were perfect! If I had to put those 4 stories in sequence from my most to least favorite, it would be:
1️⃣ Han Oh Wol & Kim Rae Hwan (Choi Soo Young & Yoo Teo)
2️⃣ Lee Hyo Young & Kang Ji Ho (Yoo In Na & Kim Kang Woo)
3️⃣ Oh Young Chan & Yao Lin (Lee Dong Hwi & Chen Du Ling)
4️⃣ Min Jin Ah & Lee Jae Hun (Lee Yeon Hee & Yoo Yeon Seok)

Oh Wol-Rae Hwan and Hyo Young-Ji Ho’s stories were both my favorites since their stories were clear from the beginning. They both had a clear and a reasonable problem and they came up with the perfect solution to it. On the other hand, Young Chan-Yao Lin didn’t seem like they were both meant for each other. Their story became much better because of Young Chan’s super supportive and silly sister, Yong Mi (Yeom Hye Ran). The same goes to Jin Ah-Jae Hun’s story—I thought I was going to like this couple’s story best, but I just didn’t feel the chemistry between the two.

But overall, the director managed to give us 4 beautiful endings and a nostalgic firework and countdown scene which made this movie a whole lot better! Definitely recommended to watch with your loved ones (preferably during the end of the year to get the holiday season vibe!) An 8.5/10 for me! ⭐️

It took me a little while to get into this movie, but by the end it was a thoroughly satisfying journey. Four well told and slightly overlapping stories, all credible and not overstated. I was particularly impressed with the storyline featuring the Korean man and his Chinese fiancée. The way that storyline tackled the whole "use your words" problem which plagues dramas was refreshing, and the brony in me loved the way it worked out. If you're looking for a relaxing, warming romantic movie, you are extremely unlikely to be disappointed in this one.

R & R [Refreshing & Romantic]

The best I like about this movie is how each character's lives are intertwined with the others and yet unaware of each others personal struggle. Something that we do not realize in our daily existence. We are quick to dismiss other's predicaments and consider our life's challenges the most overwhelming circumstance in the world. The plot elaborates this well without making it 'heavy drama'. The choice of location was stunning and apt. Brought the best of Yoo Yoon-seok's versatility. It's nice and refreshing to see yet another new skill well portrayed in the scene. He gives justice to every role he plays. The story line is not the typical and predictable in most stories. It tackled life stories (real to most people) with a different approach and scenario. The inclusion of diversity theme in the movie is appealing -- use of different language and origin. The casts played their respective roles naturally. I find the story overall...very heart warming.

A pretty easy-breezy watch

An omnibus sort of story, exploring the love, struggles and foibles of four different couples at varying stages of their relationship, as they approach the cusp of a new year.

Loved all de couples ...most fav were - Rae-hwan & Oh-wol ; Ji-ho and Hyo-young, dey were funny, and the danger around Hyo-young provided the best chance for the couple to foster a strong emotional bond between them as they faced the problem together.

VERDICT _ Everything’s pretty & breezy. As can b expected of a feel-good year-end movie, everything’s polished & easy on de eyes. This film made me want to go to Argentina, go see a rooftop band at night, go 2de Paralympics games at least once, become a little closer 2 my family and start a relationship that has an unusual beginning.

Romance with a tinge of Hollywood

I've been looking for a lighthearted romance movie to watch and THIS was it. It's a simple story about 4 couples from 4 different perspectives and stages in life, but the simplicity is what makes me feel so giddy. It feels so real but it's just too good to be true--maybe an ideal Hollywood romance. But I found myself smiling so much and cheering them on. The plot structure is nothing special, you have the issue that then gets resolved... but the storyline made me keep watching until the end. Also I love the diversity and cinematography in this film, beautiful scenes! Definitely perfect for a weekend watch.

Feel good holiday romance

New Year Blues (2021)

This is a story of 4 different couples a week before New Year. The movie is quite long, clocking in at almost 2 hours. Halfway I was started to get a little bored because the story kept switching between the 4 couples. I think 4 was too much. This would have been better if there were only 3 couples that we needed to focus on.

My fave couple was Kim Kang Woo and Yoo Inna (or maybe I'm just biased towards Kangwoo 😊).

My fave story/ending was Lee Dong Hwi and Chen Du Ling plus Yum Hye Ran as the sister.

The most romantic setting is Lee Yeon Hee and Yoo Yeon Seok in Argentina although their story seems out of place. (Sidenote: why does Yeonhee keeps going abroad when she gets heartbroken lol) and the funny cameo of Choi Siwon

The one I was confused because I didnt know why they were fighting in the first place was Yoo Teo and Choi Soo Young

Overall it was a nice holiday film.

Rating: 8.5/10
