Great premise
When I read the synopsis for this show, I was excited about the original concept. Add to that, I love the actors that are in it, and I was really looking forward to it. I was let down by the writing. I thought the acting was terrific, and if they had taken out all of the repetitive scenes/dialogue, this would have been excellent. The FL went from being a strong character to a person that just kept saying "Haru" in practically every scene. They couldn't think of other lines for her? It was written in such a way that intimated that she only had strength when she was the main lead, but as a secondary person she had no control.
My biggest problem was the repetitiveness of the whole thing. I'd still say watch it, but keep your fast forward button ready. The acting was very good.

My all time fav drama
Fell in love with Rowoon after watching it. I recommended this to every person i know who watch k dramas. I can't even describe how much i love this drama. Absolutely worth watching. But climax is bit too fast. Other than that. I completely love all the characters and actors, their emotionsIt's an underrated drama. Haru is my most fav character. I even like do hwa and kyungaa. My most favorite character in my kdrama list, it's HARUYAAA??. I really loved the concept. Most important character DRIED SQUID FAIRY, whom i feel the best part in the story. Really, I recommend this drama to watch. I hope you all watch this drama and have a good day❤❤

started off good...but what happened during the 2nd half?
i have multiple reviews saying along the lines of "it was good in the first half but the second half turned into your typical romance plot" and i can't help but agree. the first few eps reeled me in good, good enough to make me keep watching. once i reached about ep 13 i started thinking "should i drop this?" it was getting boring--haru being lovely to dan oh and baek kyung being mean to the two. however i enjoyed the refreshing plot and i loved how it made fun of cliche romance shows/books/etc.Questa recensione ti è stata utile?
This drama made me realize I don't want to be an extra in life.
I love the concept of "extra" characters that realize they can be the protagonist of their own story. The concept was a new idea that is not usually shown in K-dramas. The main leads won my heart episode by episode, some people say the series could be shorter and I agree but it doesn't take out the essence that this k-drama is great, original and contains a great message for the audience. As the title follows this drama belongs to the "extraordinary" great concept, great acting + Rowoon as a male lead, just give it a go if you are feeling like you have been only an extra in your life lately.

i loved the way they introduced the entire concept in the first episode, it immediately drew me into the show, and the execution of the concept throughout is commendable. i will say that the series starts to drag a bit during the middle and while nearing the end, but the cast, story, music, all make up for it.
this show made me cry buckets, and i couldn’t stop thinking about it for weeks after finishing it.

I really enjoyed it!
Extraordinary You was such a great drama. Despite all the subpar reviews that said the story went off track during the middle and towards the end, I found the entire story of this drama to be very intriguing. I usually use the word "heartwarming" very lightly and put it on many dramas but I truly mean it when I use it to describe this one. The entire cast made me feel this and it was very exciting to see how the story progressed for each individual character. Also, I know that it says love triangle up there but don't worry, it wasn't that "love triangle". I dislike love triangles very, very much so if I can handle it, then anybody could. You can definitely count on our two leads Haru and Eun Dan Oh, who only play extras in the story, to bring a tear or two to one's eye. I didn't cry but my heart ached a lot and this series really gave me Darling in the Franxx vibes (shoutout if you've watched this anime). This was so worth it to watch. Cheers to another great one.Questa recensione ti è stata utile?

While I've seen a couple of shows where the action is taking place in a manga / book, this didn't feel like a strange concept to me. Extraordinary You managed to take this a step further and make it more psychological in a sense. I was a very big fan of the "stage" concept of this show, and how characters were self-aware or playing character within the manhwa. The female lead was very-cartoony-like, and also becoming more human as the story progressed. The characters were also able to play the cliche "shy heroine", "bad guy", "handsome popular boy" tropes really well. However, what surprised me the most was Haru's character, considering that the actor was so fresh to acting at the time. I was very swooned and in-love with his demeanour, history and the way he carries himself throughout the drama.
Although so many people call this drama cheesy and "wasted potential", I completely disagree as this show combines both stereotypical KDrama and something above that. Please disregard the reviews, watch a couple of episodes and see for yourself. Needless to say, this was so beautiful I need a season 2!

MUST WATCH
Words cannot describe how much I LOVE this drama. This was my first kdrama and is prolly the only drama I've seen 12 times and it never gets old.
It has-
AMAZING STORY
Awesome visuals
Good looking main characters
Hilarious side characters
Unexpected twists
Unforgettable OSTs
They also have a cameo appearance in True Beauty so you probably have already seen how cute that was.
You've already read the storyline on MDL so I'm not gonna give you any other summary or spoilers.
But lemme tell you, this drama is a GEM.
You have to HAVE TO watch it!!

Finally finished this show after so long. I started watching it back when it was airing and dropped it around episode 9 (17-18) and picked it up again this year after enjoying KHY's performance in Lovely Runner. But I still faced the same issue with the show this time around, almost abandoning the drama around the same spot. I wondered if I'd outgrown stories like this — I rarely watch dramas set in high school anymore with few exceptions, but after finishing the show I realize that's not the case.Let me start by saying that this show has a very unique and interesting premise. Eun Dan-oh is a young spunky teenager with a terminal heart condition who becomes "aware" that she's a side character in a comic book doomed to die without her say-so. Then she meets Haru, a mysterious character who might be the only one who can help her change the story and her fate.
Sounds cool, right? We meet a fairly large cast of other characters at Dan-oh's school, including the A3 (a parody of BOF's F4), made up of Baek-kyung (Dan-oh's childhood friend and fiancé), Do-hwa (who also becomes aware and joins Dan-oh in her quest), and Nam-ju, the leader of the A3 and top dog at the school. There's also Ju-da, a scholarship student and Nam-ju's love interest.
The show cleverly parodies a lot of cliches from popular high school dramas and stories, and so the comic in which these characters all exist is as cliched as possible. Nam-ju is the revered, perfect ML of the comic with a hinted-at hidden depths, Ju-da is the pretty, Mary Sue-esque female lead with a tragic backstory, and Do-hwa is the second ML, doomed to lose the battle for Ju-da's heart. Baek-kyung also embodies several cliches as a potential love interest for Dan-oh; he's rude to her without cause, but it's okay because he has a tragic past.
We then find out that Dan-oh and Haru and basically a lot of other characters in this current story were actually recycled from a previous story, where they first became aware and tried to also change the story, but failed. This raises several questions: who is this writer? Why do they recycle these characters and their storylines? If Dan-oh and Haru already failed once to change their fate, how can they do it again, and succeed this time?
This set-up was really great, and I was looking forward to seeing how Dan-oh could change her fate and fight against the writer. But somewhere around the halfway mark, the story started to lose steam. The story begins to focus too much on the Haru-Danoh-Baekkyung love triangle (not really a love triangle because Baek-kyung was never really in the picture for the real Dan-oh), which didn't interest me at all. Dan-oh stopped wanting to change her fate and just wanted to spend all her time with Haru. Baek-kyung for whatever reason realizes he actually likes Dan-oh and hovers around her and Haru like a dark cloud, constantly claiming to be the one who can change her fate but basically doing nothing. Haru as a character just existed for Dan-oh's sake; no personality or anything even when he became an actual character in the story. The story became repetitive and boring because nothing of note happened; they just kept circling around the same thing.
At that this point, I had more interest in the comic's FL, Ju-da, who might have been secretly aware for a long time and might actually like Do-hwa instead of her fated Nam-ju, but even that became a dead end as she still eventually chose Nam-ju for a completely pointless reason.
The show's ending may seem romantic to some, but for me, it is quite bleak, or maybe bittersweet. The comic ends and a new one begins; this time the characters are in college, and Haru and Dan-oh reunite as extras who can run around and do what they like, I suppose. But they're still characters and subject to the writer's will. And it makes me wonder what the point of all their struggle was if the writer was still going to finish the story anyway and they would be recycled (not all, justice for Do-hwa and Ju-da!) in a new story. The "happy ever after" doesn't feel earned; it's just something that happened. I don't think that's a worthy ending of such a brilliant premise with such a dynamic FL.
And there's still so many unanswered questions. Again who is this writer, and what is their motivation? Why do some characters become aware and others not? Why was Haru the only one who could change the stage? And why was he still able to change the stage when he became a named character? I'm sure the writer would have noticed him messing up the story at that point.
I also think introducing the writer as a character would have improved the show a lot; it would have provided an actual antagonist that the characters could rally against. Instead they were all just circling the drain, unable to do much to change their fate.
I think this show had all the ingredients to be truly great; apart from such interesting concepts (I really liked the idea of the stage and the shadow), the casting was near perfect. KHY was great as Dan-oh; I can't imagine anyone else in the role, and while the cutesy act got a bit old after a while, I really loved the way she could switch between stage and shadow Dan-oh and the difference was clear. Her comedic timing and facial reactions were also amazing. The writing really let her and the character down in the second half of the show. LJW was amazing as Baek-kyung, even though I disliked the character, and I think that's a testament to his skill as an actor. He was a standout for me. I also really enjoyed Do-hwa and Ju-da and their actors are really good; they were probably my favorite characters and I'm sad that they were not utilized to their full potential, especially Ju-da. The OST also is one of my favorites.
But the show couldn't fully take it to the end. I feel like it would have helped maybe if it had been shorter and cut out all the filler so the plot was tighter and more coherent. But at least the first half was great and really had me; I only wish the show had stuck the landing.

Extraordinary You was one of those dramas that I really wanted to watch the second after watching some of the previews of the episodes. It seemed really fun and I truly liked the story and tbh, it didn’t disappoint at all. I could call it one of my favorite k-dramas ever, not necessarily based on the content but on my enjoyment of it. What I really liked about it:
1. Dan-oh’s and Haru’s relationship, it was the cutest thing ever. I really ship them so much!!
2. Dan-oh’s character, she’s one of my favorite female leads because her personality is just so great!! She’s written in a very good way and she’s so funny, made the series even better.
3. Haru’s character, he was just such an awesome male lead and he really was a gentleman and truly loved Dan-oh so much. Rowoon did what he had to do.
4. The story, it was so so so interesting and I would love to write a story like that someday tbh.
5. Juda >>>>>>> her development was so good.
6. Dohwa!!!! He really deserved so much better T~T Alongside with Haru and Dan-oh, he was one of my favorite characters and really made the show better.
7. The humor >>>>
8. The Trumpet Creeper thing
On the other hand, the things that I didn’t like:
1. How they wrote Baekyung’s character. I think he really had potential to be a good ‘bad’ boy, a great example of a well-written second lead is Seojun from True Beauty. He has the same vibes as Baekyung but tbh, they just made Baekyung an asshole way too much than it was actually necessary. I truly believe he was never a bad person, he did things wrong and behaved badly in many ways but like the way his character was written makes it impossible to many to sympathize with him and actually make him a good competitor to Haru. Haru was very great and a good guy, he was always there for Dan-oh and really showed his potential but if they had made Baekyung less “I’m a bad boy and I don’t care about you, I insult you because I actually like you but I have trauma so like you’re actually disgusting for being sick but I kinda love you”, it would have been easier to sympathize with him and to actually be a good character, he was complex but just written in a bad way.
2. The ending, what I didn’t like about it was that they left things out. They really did a great job til the very end but they should’ve added more things and actually close off the story in a good way, in a completely finished way but til this day we don’t know what the hell happened with Baekyung, Dohwa, Juda, etc. Maybe it’s self-explanatory that they are in another webtoon ??? but still. It could’ve been better but I still liked it, it was very romantic and cute.
Overall, this drama is amazing for me. I truly enjoyed it, it’s not perfect at all, some things could’ve been better but I had fun watching it and I could rewatch it anytime. It’s lighthearted and it’s perfect if you just want to binge watch a show. It’s really one of my favorites and I’ll always love it!!
