Same writer, same style same feels. No wonder when i watched the drama I was like... "This is really filling the void "Reply 1988" left on me

If you have watched My Mister, you would definitely recognizes some familiar faces in Prison Playbook. Other than sharing some actors, the two shows also share similar gritty theme and humane stories that we all can relate to. Despite its setting, Prison Playbook is actually lighter than My Mister as it's essentially a black comedy but its emotional backstory of the casts is just as engaging the ones we see in My Mister. We can't help but root for them. However in my opinion, the biggest similarity that these two share is its messaging; Never judge a book by its cover, the importance of showing kindness regardless of who they are and that everyone deserves a second chance.

Though D.P. only has 6 episodes, it digs deep in to some pretty big issues in a similar way. The plot reminded me allot of Captain Yoos side story in Prison Play Book. though there are some similarities between Captain Yoo and Jun Ho their placement and roles are very different. But if you liked Captain Yoos story in Prison Playbook you will probably like D.P. (It also has the same actor)

Both the dramas are realistic; every character in these dramas is well thought out and portrayed. Also, the story lines are logical and have a strong impact on the viewer.

Both dramas are about life inside a prison. There is no shortage of harsh and bloody scenes and unjustly accused characters.

Same director so the same atmosphere of the Sol, several characters, several stories, both showing different views of the life in prison or the hospital, presenting the good aspects of people, both makes one have connections with the characters and got attached to them
Raccomandato da Aya
Both dramas are heartwarming and heartbreaking as the main character overcomes adversities with the help of cell mates while in prison
Raccomandato da SUNNY
- both main characters suffer injustices and hardships that they work hard to overcome
- both main characters end up in jail
- both dramas deal with new and refreshing topics, following a male lead that meets unique friends with their own developed stories
Overall, both dramas give off the same feeling as you watch the characters desperately and tirelessly fight for what they want against those that wish to spite them.

Both portray a mix of character stories (the writers really gave these characters depth) with very similar comedic timing. They deal with some serious themes but also have a bit of the quirky/awkward moments and making them gold. These are the kinds of shows where I'd like to say "Don't judge a book by its cover".

Same writer, same style, same feels. There's a lot of the elements of looking at the chilhood and growth of the characters. This writer knows how to tell a story man.

If you never watch C-drama because the eps are way too many, don't worry. Because Nirvana in Fire won't disappoint you. Personally, I hate long dramas. But this one makes me keep watching it without skipping any of the eps. Both dramas are very unique. It told about brotherhood and guy friendship a lot. The main attractions from both dramas are the strong bonds between the two best friends. Both dramas also have great actings and great cinematographic. You will be blown away by the beauty of each scene and the storytelling as well.
The Prison Playbook is more funny and shorter but it has also some dark cynical theme and storytelling. This drama is literally going to mess around with your emotions. One time you are laughing the next one you are either angry or crying. it's kind of bittersweet.
Nirvana in Fire is more serious but also makes you think a lot. The main protagonist here is very smart (Prison Playbook's protagonist is kind of dumb but also smart in a way). He is very cunning but that's what makes the drama is very interesting. He is cunning for a greater good and the way he is able to get ahead of his enemies is just mind-blowing. if you worry if the story is way too serious, it does have some comedy but the drama genre is more like a slice of life kind of thing than comedy. The story will touch you deeply and if you really really like the brotherhood theme kind of thing. You really need to check this one out. It also has a season 2 with a different protagonist but the background story is related. You can watch the season 2 without watching season 1 but I think I like season one better. But both are really really good.

Although revolves around the military and another around prison both dramas are very similar regarding the relationship between the male leads and their respective girlfriends. Especially the story of Seo Dae Yeong x Yoon Myung Ju (DOTS) and Kim Je Hyuk x Kim Ji Ho (Prison Playbook) is very very similar.
