movies that you should consider watching
-
1. Bad Genius
Thai Movie - 2017
a thriller without the spook and supernatural
-
2. Tassista
Korean Movie - 2017
an insight into a piece of modern south korean history... it's emotional
-
3. Dear Ex
Taiwanese Movie - 2018
this one is a tearjerker and a rollercoaster of emotions
-
4. Extreme Job
Korean Movie - 2019
a great action film..... honestly the fight scenes are really entertaining
-
5. Hot Young Bloods
Korean Movie - 2014
don't know how to describe it other than it being a unique story. it's quirky, funny, anger-inducing, and does not drag one bit
-
6. Hunger
Thai Movie - 2023
if you've watched <the menu> and enjoyed it, you'll probably enjoy this. keep in mind, it's on the darker side.
-
7. Little Forest
Korean Movie - 2018
i've watched it twice. now if you love food, this one is highly recommended. it's a mellower story but the visuals and aesthetics are worth watching again.
-
8. Amore e guinzagli
Korean Movie - 2022
an intro to BDSM without the vulgarity. i loved this movie for being sex positive but still maintaining a level of caution to make sure it's an enjoyable story while you learn what BDSM actually is. it's not cheap, nor does it have any explicit scenes either. i only recommend watching it by yourself or with an open-minded person since it's still explains what BDSM is and that might be unacceptable for some.
-
9. 30 Days
Korean Movie - 2023
there is one sex scene (kind of implied really) but it's a rom-com with a modern twist. honestly watched it for kang haneul and jung somin and their chemistry was awesome.
-
10. Midnight
Korean Movie - 2021
thriller movie. people complain about how "unrealistic" it is since people don't help the deaf and mute female lead here. truth be told, south korea is still kind of regressive about understanding special needs and disabilities. it's a good story regardless of what you think about that.
-
11. Midnight Runners
Korean Movie - 2017
mature comedy film. it's actually a really funny movie and if you aren't triggered by some themes here, i don't know why anyone wouldn't like this.
-
12. Miss Granny
Korean Movie - 2014
it's been remade in many languages and countries for a reason. it's an emotional rollercoaster with a happy ending. please give this one a go.
-
13. Namaste Hello, Bye-Bye
Thai Movie - 2013
watched this a long time ago so i don't remember exact details. but it's like one of those "finding yourself in india" movies. it's interesting because we have a lot of cultural similarities with southeast asia so it's a different perspective on that.
-
14. Okja
Korean Movie - 2017
it's bong joon ho, i'm not spoiling a thing.
-
15. Old Boy
Korean Movie - 2003
a psychological thriller that will make you question everything, but you'll still go back to watch this movie again. i personally recommend watching this by yourself and then discussing with others after. watching it together might dampen the experience.
-
16. Parasite
Korean Movie - 2019
it's bong joon ho, i'm not spoiling a thing. also, were you living under a rock in 2019/2020? then you should have watched it already!
-
17. Scandal Makers
Korean Movie - 2008
one of the first korean movies i've seen and it's really funny. a bit emotional at times, but it's a great movie!
-
18. Silenced
Korean Movie - 2011
great movie but please be wary of trigger warnings! it's really sad throughout just so you know.
-
19. Snowpiercer
Korean Movie - 2013
it's bong joon ho, i'm not spoiling a thing.
-
20. Svaha: The Sixth Finger
Korean Movie - 2019
it was interesting. i'm not too familiar with certain buddhist stories and figures so i was a bit confused, but it keeps you engaged.
-
21. Call
Korean Movie - 2020
it's a thriller. acting was great. i just don't like the "keeping in contact with past timeline" trope as much, but if you like it, it's great.
-
22. The Handmaiden
Korean Movie - 2016
it's a dark and erotic film. it's actually really good and i've watched it twice because i wanted to check a few points in the story that weren't too obvious the first time. it's a very dark movie so be aware of trigger warnings.
-
23. Train to Busan
Korean Movie - 2016
were you living under a rock? it's the movie that cemented south korean cinema as a leader in zombie films. it's one of the best korean films of all time but obviously it's a bit violent, so be aware.
