My last year's book, that I still haven't finished: The Book and the Sword, by Jin Yong https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/552708.The_Book_and_the_Sword It's not that I didn't enjoy it (hello, wuxia in written form, by the classic wuxia master himself!?), but I got frustrated because of some confusing skips in between some chapters/parts. I've no idea if this is just in the (fanmade) English translation that I'm currently reading, or it's just his style, since this is my first novel of him that I actually (try to) read from start to finish! My goal is to read all his books in order of their publishing date! Let's see how this goes! I'm currently about 60% done with this book. I'm a VERY slow reader!! 511 pages, according to Goodreads, though I'm reading it in electronic form. | My February pick: Stardust, by Neil Gaiman https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/818478.Stardust This is a book that I actually *physically* own, and it waits for me patiently upon my bed table for *years*! I absolutely loved the movie, it was so charming & magical & adorable, so I had to give the book it's adapted from a chance!! :) 224 pages. Physical book in my hands! |
Also, before I basically stopped reading & kinda made dramas my full time hobby, I was into:
- The Saxon Stories series, by Bernard Cornwell -- have finished the first 4 books of that, and ready to pick up the 5th, named The Burning Land. This is a little more than 300 pages & a fast read.
- Outlander series, by Diana Gabaldon -- have finished the first 5 books and I'm ready to pick up the 6th, named A Breath Of Snow and Ashes. This thing is almost 1000 pages, lol, and almost slice-of-lifey in its pace, but I still want to know what happens next before the tv-series adaptation catches up with it!
So one of these 2 will be my pick for next month!! Or maybe I'll start reading them intermittently.
Wish me luck, and persistence, lol!! :D
Hello everyone!
This is my first book club :)
Much like how I used to watch dramas alone before I discovered MDL, it's great that we can now encourage and support each other and even share our thoughts while reading on our own.
It's been a looooong time since I last picked up a book so will take it easy and pick a title that isn't too overwhelming and perfectly balances between drama watching and reading.
My pick for February 2021:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/9555.The_Elephant_Vanishes
My first Murakami book, although I've heard of him for the longest time, and one that contains a collection of short stories which hopefully is manageable during the shortest month of the year :D

February Read
Like it’s been more than a decade I actually enjoy picking a book and reading it. I’m going to start of simple and read a book of poems called CORAZÓN . Purchased it a couple years ago when I swore I was going to pick up a healthier hobby....well I didn’t get past a few pages when life decided to throw a few stumbling blocks on my road and I didn’t continue.
Along with you drama-loving buddies I’m hoping this time around it sticks.
《My February pick》
'All The Light We Cannot See' by Anthony Doerr
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18143977-all-the-light-we-cannot-see
I've been putting off reading this one as it's a slow burn story & an emotionally demanding one but I want to complete this one in winter (cuz the mood...ok, it's hard to explain)
Its quite a hard read, not about the 530 pgs, but the painful plot (I'm super sensitive & could perhaps leave my tears on every page) But I've decided to take it on, so there's no turning back.
"I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over & through me. And when it has gone past, I'll turn the inner eye to see its path. When the fear has gone, there is/ will be nothing. Only I will remain"
- Frank Herbert in the book Duke.
Hello everyone! Thank you for participating to encourage us to read more often ❤️
[The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley]
I'm already on page 86 (total 407) because I started reading this morning in the office, instead of watching a drama ;D
PS: feel free to add me on Goodreads. I intend to go back to updating my reading list there. I have a lot of books to read and re-read so I'm very excited about that.

Your reading a book instead of watching a drama sounds so inspiring! I will start mine this afternoon!

I haven't read much from J.D.Robb yet, but this is one of my fave genres, so I'll be looking forward to your feedback :)
I haven't picked a book but I'm putting a placeholder.
-- Febraury pick --
I'm starting with a web-novel (28 chapters). I still need to search for a book otherwise.
