My June/beginning of July book was The Ghost Bride by Yangsze Choo.
I did watch the drama when it came out a few years back and liked it well enough, but this was much better. The world building and overall setting of both the human world and the ghost world is so rich and descriptive. So now it kind of makes me want to watch the drama again, even though I know I didn't think it was that amazing the first time, haha. Rated 4/5.
I'm . . . in a book slump. For the first time in nearly 2 years . . . it's hit. I forgot what it felt like T^T Enough novels for a while. The one relief is that I know when I do go back to reading again, my TBR only consists of sequels which is nice and will leave me free to re-read to my heart's content.
Back to animanga and dramas as a whole now lol ~
I'll throw a random hat in the ring here that may or may not fit the mix. The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara. It won the Pulitzer Prize for literature in 1975. 5 years after I was born but 35 years later that I actually read it. It is the inspiration for the Civil War film Gettysburg. The novel specifically focuses on the battle of the Gettysburg from multiple perspectives. The book is not as much about the action as it is about the people who are involved and their feelings about the events of those three days. Brilliantly written and emotionally stirring.

Welcome to the forum!
The Butterfly:The 1930 movie? How did it compare with the book?
Yes, the one from 1930. It's been a while, but as far as I remember and looking at my records, there are only a few differences. For example in contrast to the book, where it begins in the middle of the front, the film starts with the scene when the school class decides to go into battle, followed by their time in training. Some battles are combined into one, so that some soldiers die in the same battle. Otherwise, the visits home show some differences.
Hello hello. For my July roundup I finished two books:
One is Boyfriends by Refrainbow (volume 2). This is a polyamorous graphic novel series that I've been following for many years now (since it was on Webtoon Canvas! Would love to see a small collection with the original comics). I had fun with it and look forward to volume 3. | |||
I also read New Suns: Original Speculative Fiction by People or Color volume 2. Loved the cover art for this too! I loved that it kept some of the design from volume 1. This anthology had some really great pieces. I did skip one story and had a few others I struggled with, but the ones I did enjoy were great pieces. Some I didn't like as much but found were worth reading anyway. Definitely have a few favorites though. | Covers for comparison |
And thats July!
