Not to be Missed
The Missing Crown Prince (MCP) is why I love Kdrama. The writing, acting, direction, and production are superb. The beautiful OST is like a magic carpet that transports the drama from scene to scene. MCP earned a place on my Kdrama Favorites list.
The opening credits declare that "MCP" is fiction rather than a historical fact. That statement roused my curiosity. What did that mean? As the episodes unfolded I learned. This beautiful complex drama was the work of creators who were not hindered by a historical moment. The plot's intricate twists, turns, and revelations compelled me to return to the drama each week. I had to see what was next. I was never disappointed.
The characters - crowds, royalty, military, laborers, nobility, and priests were well-written and interesting. They felt like people. The Crown Prince was exceptional. The viewer learns steadily how his intelligence, vision, compassion, and dedication to Joseon drive him. In the most uncertain and difficult of situations he moves forward fearlessly. He proves to be an inspired leader. The Crown Prince is one of my favorite K-drama characters. Our 'Maiden" adults in front of the viewers. I appreciate how the writers create a woman who blends the traditional and the modern. While not a rebel and respectful of the culture and tradition, she consistently pushes and tests the boundaries as she walks her path. Her emotional maturity, her integrity, and growth are remarkable.
I love this series. Without a question, I will watch it again. Peace and blessings.

The character of the doctor's daughter was also great. A strong woman with healthy principles who wants to make up for her father's mistakes.
The flaw of this series... I don't know if many poisons were used frequently in this era but in this series there were daily poisonings and many people, too many, spitting blood from their mouths when they died.
While I particularly appreciated the ending that made me finish with a smile.
Here too the prince carried out his duty as sovereign well, after which he dropped everything and thought about his own happiness. First duty, then pleasure. Good teaching.

Something you have to watch until the end
Overall, I really enjoyed this drama! Towards the middle the storyline starts to drag but it quickly starts to pick up after an episode or two. At first, it really is a storyline I never expected but once I reached the end of the show and we got the full picture of everything — it all made sense and honestly just made my rating higher! Don’t get me wrong, it’s not the perfect drama but it got me hooked at each episode and I wanted to watch more as the episodes went on. I love suho with all my heart but I also love kdramas and this is definitely one I would recommend to friends who enjoy historical dramas!Questa recensione ti è stata utile?
Good Enough
Korean Drama '' Missing Crown Prince '' is a historical melodrama. The start and the finale of the drama were light and more like a romantic comedy, with a light mood and emphasis on the comedy part.
The drama got a one-eighty change after those first episodes, with the story getting darker and focusing on the political drama and the politics of the palace. There was a lot of action then and a lot of twists. That is also when the romance got a secondary role in the plot.
Finally, the performances were all great by every actor and actress in the cast.
So, overall, seven out of ten.

Just "Iyuech"
"Ayoyooo some of em speak with Seoul accent.I'm out" that's what I said to myself, but then I finished this drama
This series is a waste🔪 of🔪 my 🔪fckin'🔪 time.
The acting by those three young main leads is bad, and the plot is illogical and unrealistic.
Kim Ji Soo Jagganim, thank you so much; this is definitely the last time I will watch your drama.
The same goes for those three young actors.
Suho, baobey,........goodbye. I will make sure not to force myself to watch your next work just because I like the writer and director.

Kinda boring at this point ep 15
there are two more episodes to go and I am no longer at the edge of my seat. I admit I was watching this drama at first with some reservation as it seemed like a silly mixed identities plot the first few episodes, but it then got interesting with all the courtroom and palace scheming and political duplicity. At ep 14 I started getting tired of never-ending bombs and dire straits that ML was put through. I am sorry but I am not longer able to care how this is going to be resolved. Most of the reviews before me point out the artistry of the ML, but to me the SML, a very young actor, stole the show. He is most believable, most vulnerable character in the entire series, and he plays it VERY well. I will not comment of the +/- of the various characters in this show, they were written as such and so I can only comment on the mastery of the screenwriter to create roles that are either very rich to start with (and we slowly discover their inner workings) or they develop progressively thus giving us a delicious chance to witness that personal growth. In this case, the script falls short in just revealing details of the story that really does not expand our understanding of the characters. I was able to determine who is a good guy and who is a bad guy already, so even switch in the direction does not prove anything, just mundanely proves the already known truths. I still give it high mark because I usually start with 10 for interesting script, fresh ideas in the plot, characters that are not stereotypes and acting mastery. If the FX or cinematography is something memorable and the OST is a part of the characters/situations, then I can keep the 10. Otherwise, I subtract the points. This one has music that I can't recall after 15 episodes. Mediocre script and characters. Acting is good, but visuals are not that great. Frankly, I am ready to go back to The Double as that keeps me entertained at ep 20.Questa recensione ti è stata utile?

Best Romantic Espionnage Action Thriller Drama
I approad this drama because I was intrigued by a prince being kidnapped. I Thought it was a romantic drama. In reality, there is a sprinkle of romance but in the end I fell in love with the power struggles and political ploys. So I really enjoyed the drama. So what this drama is about:
On the first episode I clearly understood : this would not be a fluffy rom-com ( as I thought) but a mystery/ espionnage/ action drama. I could sens that, a deep dark secret organisation was behind all this story.
I was hooked. So, I gave the drama the time to develop the plot.
And OMG, the more the episodes aired, the more I was addicted.
I waited patiently every saturdays and sundays to watch the new episodes as they were airing.
It was a roller coaster ride of emotions as the story developed.
I was totally in love with this drama.
I heard that many people complained about the fact that the romance was almost unexisting.
I don't agree, actress behind the Female Lead ; Yong Ye Ji; said that the text might not be romantic but the actors behaviours on set are. Indeed, they are affectionnate.
But looking back at the way the story developed, personnaly, I liked that the story was more about the palace ploys than the romance.
Because, from my point of view, the suspens set by the schemes spiced up the romance and I was sometimes afraid for the Leads because of it.
So this is a great drama. One of my favourites.
And I dont even speak about the OST, which I am crazy in love with.
Especially the Suho's "love you more gradually ", "100 days of dreams" and of course " love is like the wind".
The later was my lullaby before sleeping for a long time (^__^)

Missed Point
The title doesn't really make sense since the crown prince isn't missing for many episodes. It could have had a better name for one. The summary of the series was also quite misleading.Though I felt bad for the Queen and the FL's father but they were unnecessarily evil. The king, the crown prince and the rest of the people had nothing to do with their circumstances.
The fortune teller was another pointless character.
As a political historical drama, it was decent. The music was good but there wasn't much chemistry between the ML and FL. The series has very little on the romance front.
Acting is decent. Didn't really wow me since the characters didn't allow them to have much range. At first I enjoyed the strong FL but she later became a helpless character which was unfortunate.
I didn't dislike the show but it didn't impress me either.

Criminally Underrated (providing an explanation for the ending)
it took everything in me not to give a 10 to this.I will take this space first and foremost to appreciate: SUHO THE ACTOR, SUHO THE IDOL and KIM JUN MYEON THE PERSON. What terrific job did the man do portraying the role of Crown Prince. Kim made it so alive for me that henceforth whoever plays the role of Lee Gun in another historical fiction, I'll be comparing the role playing and characterisation to Suho's portrayal. I'm in love- I have been in love with Suho and in love with his very existence- with how he blew life into his character. I give a standing applause to his acting, improvised, so perfected that I bawled my eyes out in every scene Lee Gun shed tears in. and someone hold me, hold me because I'm smitten with this wise, brains with beauty His Royal Highness Crown Prince (this is what people call sexy brains i suppose) and I swear this is not good for my heart. Adding to this was whenever and wherever His Highness walked, walked with a crowd following behind him, was so so damn hot. Conversely, SUHO the singer, the angelic singer that he is. OST "Love You More Gradually" is so close to my heart right now that it is not healthy how many times i stream it within a day. the OST itself wriggles, wrenches and soothes your heart. I LOVED EVERY ASPECT OF THIS. (Suho's voice did to my ears and heart what spring does to cherries.) i sincerely hope and wish for Kim Jun Myeon to take up more projects and try his hand at various different characters (i vouch for witty characters personally)
Lee Gun's dialogues that made me feel woman: 1. "You are someone I Indulge in." 2. "Your lips taste like honey." (*screaming*)
Moving forward, I'll take the liberty to explain the ending that everyone has been so unsatisfied about (the last 20-25 minutes to be precise). The Crown Prince after ascending the throne DID NOT ABANDON the throne, nor his subjects or people/country. He REMAINS His Majesty The King of Joseon. After the execution of the traitors and the subduing the rebellion, His Majesty rules and gets rid of all old conventional traditions, laws and policies, making new ones in its place. and he adopts a very very unconventional method to get his ideas approved through his courtiers and i dare quote it (not from the drama): "If you are not listening to continuous wailing of pleas from courtiers who are selfish and greedy for power, without proper back up and evidences and reasons for the pleas to be answered, then you do not have to give your corrupted opinions." He changes certain apparently important laws and replaces then with new improvised ones and continues to rule (for quite a number to months) before deciding to take a break. He leaves to be with his lover whom he hadn't seen for months and thus calls in his brother as a SUBSTITUTE for his absence. Reading between the lines, it can be seen that His Majesty Lee Gun might have returned to the palace after spending some time with his beloved and then going back again to her from time to time. Let's keep in mind that Myeong Yoon is a very independent and self reliant woman and thus is someone who wouldn't be confined to the walls of the palace. she would rather work in a self-established clinic than become someone's queen. and so Lee Gun's family was outside the palace he resided in. it is important to take note that everyone in the last scene from Gap Seok and Moo Beak to Prince Do Sung (apparently the King) address Lee Gun as His Majesty. So Do Sung being a royal and Lee Gun's own half brother substituted him whenever Lee Gun went of the palace to spend some time with his family. So the fact remains that Lee Gun is His Majesty the King, the ruler of the land and doesn't abandon his responsibilities or throne: he is in fact fulfilling all of his responsibilities both as the father of the country and the care taker of his family as a husband to Myeong Yoon and father to his children.
next would be how choi Sang rok and the queen dowager were forgiven. They were not. they paid for the sins they committed in the name of protecting their love. Sang Rok dies at the hands of the people he had gathered to lead the rebellion and doesn't get to experience the apparent happiness he would have had he been able to witness the fruit of his forbidden love, his unborn child. Also ironically, he hurt the daughter he tried to protect most in his attempt to safeguard his romantic rendezvous and ends up as the source of all of Myeong Yoon's miseries and the object of her hate. It was very humane of Myeong Yoon when she meet the dethroned Queen Dowager and said that it would take time for her to forgive her father and the Dowager. Lee Gun on the other hand, i dare say, executed his revenge on Sang Rok when he died begging to pardon the Queen Dowager at his feet and affirmed to all the crimes he had committed (we find Lee Gun not moving an inch when Sang Rok was pleading at his feet as he looked on with contempt. Had Sang Rok not been already stabbed in his heart, I'm sure Lee Gun would have beheaded him himself). However, Gun agrees to spare to the Queen Dowager only because she was pregnant with a child. But then again she was rightly punished for her acts too, which Gun was aware of of course, the Queen Dowager saw the person she cherished the most and for whom she committed so many misdeeds, die right in front of her eyes. Lee Gun's contempt for her was probably eased when she witnessed her lover breathing his last (Gun had said he would pay back the pain he and his family endured just the same, nothing more and nothing less.) Moreover, the queen Dowager died after giving birth and presumably without getting to love sufficiently the child/fruit of her love of years. The justice was rightly served.
(here i would take a detour and assume that Lee Gun ends up adopting the child of Soo Ryun and Sang Rok- hence in the last scene we find him with 2 kids- the younger one being his own and thus the former king showering the baby with love)
the whole series served just right in every aspect. the series was intriguing, fast paced, and kept the viewer hooked and contemplating what would come next. (binge watching as i did, i kept having dreams of what would happen next as i took mini breaks in between. i swear if my eyes had a mouth they would curse me with every profanity known to the world.)
i would add why i couldn't give a 10 to show. first, it was because they made Suho cry (even if it was just acting); second, being the witty and smart person Lee Gun was he didn't realise that Beak Goo as he named Myeong Yoon was actually Sang Rok's daughter a little faster. third, nowhere in the series did anyone tell or made Song Rok and Soo Ryun realise that their love was not wrong but what they did in the name of love was unforgiveable. However i would make a strong recommendation of this series for what it truly is, a masterpiece. from the actors to the plot twists that were provided and the osts that the drama literally gifts us, is elite. A MUST WATCH- when i say this is something that should NOT be missed, it actually should not be missed. i'm really surprised at the number of MDL watchers; i mean people be radical not everything that is not your typical romantic comedy is unworthy.

I will pretend the last 10 minutes didn't exist.
The personality of the crown prince that was built throughout the entire series was of a wise man, dedicated to Joseon and ready to take on the responsibility. A man destined to be a great king, and he simply abandoned everything for a woman, as if it were nothing? The most serious issue is the fact that his brother took the throne, a spoiled boy with no intelligence. I am giving a high rating because the series overall is a wonderful political plot, and because of Suho's performance, but I will pretend the last 10 minutes didn't exist.
