I was apprehensive when I learned that there will be a series of this novel, as I enjoyed reading it. I wasn't a fan of the ML actor, and was thinking of not watching this drama. But, I read a lot of positive feedback from this drama, so when it finished airing, I immediately gave it a chance, and I'm glad I did!

It was perfectly done for me. I love that they did a good job and enhanced the story from the novel. Characters were portrayed well by the actors. ML and FL has good chemistry, and felt all the needed emotions in each scenes.

Villains, were too convincing. You wanted to personally skin them alive. I wish the extra episode, could've been an hour long. Hehe.

Over all, it is worthy of the hype. I enjoyed watching each episodes.

Strong female, thrilling story and nice romance

__*The Double*__ - 9/10 Historical C-Drama
Let's begin with the aspects of this drama that I found less impressive.

For the identity swap to be plausible, the drama assumes an implausible level of blindness in both the audience and the characters. It's reminiscent of the scene in The Simpsons: "Homer? Who is Homer? My name is Guy Incognito." The female lead merely assumes a new name without altering her appearance and reappears just weeks after her supposed disappearance, without any attempt to disguise herself.

Now, onto the commendable parts.

Everything else shines. The actors, many of whom were unfamiliar to me, delivered stellar performances. The female lead was particularly well-written—a strong character without falling into the trope of a Mary Sue.

The story was well-crafted and suspenseful. It was so engaging that I found myself binge-watching all 40 episodes, eager to uncover each new twist and turn.

The romance? The chemistry was palpable. While it wasn’t the best I've ever seen, it was certainly compelling.

__*Plot*__
The female lead is a married woman whose husband, a court official, along with his family, tarnishes her reputation and buries her in the mountains. Remarkably, she survives and is rescued by a noble young lady who had also been grievously wronged. Unfortunately, the cost of this rescue is the young lady's own life. The female lead then assumes the identity of her savior, vowing to avenge both herself and the noble young lady.

decent revenge drama as long as you can believe the opening premise

This drama was probably the first good drama I have seen in 2024. There has been a lot of sub-par dramas released so far in 2024 so this drama was a welcome change.

If you can believe that a child can be framed for a crime they didn't commit (by the evil step-mother no less). If you can believe a father couldn't recognize his own daughter (even after 10 years), If you can believe said father wouldn't visit his own child for 10 years. you know, just to check up on her. If you can believe a husband couldn't recognize his ex-wife after a few months apart (hey your daughter looks an awful lot like my ex-wife) . Then the rest of the drama is pretty good. For me the main knock was believing the opening premise that one person could impersonate another without any changes to their appearance, you know, just jump in and say hey, I am now Jiang Li, and you should just believe it .

Once you get past the initial set-up of the drama, the story and plot are pretty good and the drama moves right along, very little filler scenes. Not once did I fast forward through this drama. I liked the fact that the main villain in here was the psycho princess, a nice change from other dramas. This drama has a good revenge story line and is worth the watch......as long as you can buy off on the opening premise.

Revenge done in an brilliant way

This drama was the one that I didn’t expect would be good but after watching just 2 or so episodes I was so whipped for this drama now here’s the thing firstly I was amazed by wu jinyan (jiang li’s) role girl killed it
2. Later on with more interactions between xiao heng and jiang li there chemistry was good ??
3. Now comes the thing that I liked here we obviously have to talk about xiao heng ???I want to dedicate this to him “xiao heng you are so good looking “

Absolutely fantastic...one of the best cdramas

One of the BEST cdramas I've ever watched. I haven't been watching cdramas lately, have been let down by many of them. But The Double was fantastic. Every episode was riveting, astonishing, and plotted well. I had to stay up day and night to finish because I did NOT want to stop watching! It was so unpredictable, you never know what will happen next. And the slow-burn romance was EVERYTHING to me. It was done so well, with no cringey scenes and I loved these leads with my entire being. SO SO SO SO GOOOOOOD!!!! Up there with my favorites such as love o2o, love between fairy and devil, and lighter & princess.

Excellent adaptation with great cinematography ( +ost)!

I read the novel this drama is adapted from, “Marriage of the Di daughter ”, a few years back. Most adaptations change the story too much, or make the plot worse. Even though I am a book fan, this drama only changed a few things which I think made the plot even better.

In the book, Xu Fangfei actually died and possessed Jiang Li (who also died by falling into a pond). So technically she was not Xue Fangfei anymore. I like how the drama changes this plot due to censorship, but also acknowledges the changes and bends the story along with it. Jiang Li is much more likable here.

I think Xiao Heng is the character that is the most faithful to the book. He is absolutely perfect in both the drama and the book. One word: Swoon worthy.

I love the supporting characters in the drama. The villains especially. Most of the villains were pretty one dimensional in the book. But the drama added backstories. Even though they're still evil, atleast we get to see why they are the way they are. The princess is a psychotic character. But you get to see why and exactly how she becomes that way in the drama. I'll admit I loved her scenes a lot. Shen Yurong seems more evil to me, just because he lacks a backbone yet dares to be envious.

My favorite scene in the drama is the confrontation between the grand princess and Shen Yurong in the rain. Such a heartbreaking scene, filmed appropriately. I absolutely love the cinematography in this drama. And the OSTs are the cherry on top. Beautiful work!

Over all the plot is really good, the acting is better than most dramas these days, and the music + camera work is top notch. Highly recommended!

I, absolutely, loved the storyline. Thank you to the writers for crafting such a compelling narrative. The costumes, martial arts, horses, time period, and sets were all fantastic. The soundtrack was beautiful and added so much to the experience.

My favorite scene was when the Qin was played during the testing – it was truly captivating. Wang Xing Yue was perfect in his role and is such a handsome actor. I have seen him in both non-historical and historical roles, and while his facial features may vary, his smile always gives him away. I think I prefer him in historical dramas.

Wu Jin Yan, who played the main female lead, did an excellent job portraying Li Jiang. The development of the romance was somewhat different from what I'm used to, but it was refreshing. This drama evoked all my emotions, which is a testament to its excellence.

Thank you to all the actors and actresses who brought this story to life.

one of the best series I have ever watched! the cast, the story , the music.....woahh everything was dope! i enjoyed myself watching this....the only thing i don't like about the story is that Lu ji and Wen ji die...they were one my fav characters..i really wished for 3 of them to return together but it didn't come true.....sigh....overall this is the best drama of 2024 .....waiting for more amazing work from the cast. I wish we get another fabulous drama with Wang XIngyue, Wu Jinyan, Pan you cheng and Wang le fu. i really loved the trio of xiao heng lu ji and wen ji along with a'li. these together again would be really amazing!!!
