Rainless In A Godless Land (2021)

Beautiful, smart, meaningful, and enjoyable!

I NEVER write reviews before a show has finished airing. But I hate how this gem of a drama is flying under the radar. So I’m here to say if you’re questioning whether to watch it or not, just go for it! I am also confident the remaining episodes will be as excellent as the first 8 I watched because I trust the expert makers and writers of “Someday or One Day”.
So what’s so great about this one? Plot, actors, messages, OST, and cinematography are all impressive and enjoyable to watch. It comes together in a grand yet intimate way many other dramas attempt to accomplish but miss the mark in doing so.
I especially appreciate the way the plot is written. The story is revealed in non linear pieces. Moments and scenes are played and replayed in different fashions and are given new meaning within the context as you receive more information. It never feels repetitive but instead adds layers of depth and moments of “ah-ha”. You have to pay attention but it never feels like they’re trying to reach over your head. In this it definitely reminds me of the brilliant “Someday or One Day”. I like this way of thinking of time being cyclical not linear and seemingly simple moments that matter most in our lives.
Also, major shout out to showcasing the native folklore, language, and beliefs.
Yes it will be compared to dramas like Goblin or many of the other human/deity romances. But Rainless Love in a Godless Land has so many unique things to offer and deserves it’s own stand alone place among them all.

Ya'll have to start this drama istg

At first I started this drama because it reminded me of Goblin and I'm always trying to fill the void that drama left me. But believe me when I say, those two things are not on the same plane. Sure, Goblin is unbeatable, but RLIAGL is just a style of it's own.

The cinematography is insanely good, each scene feels like art. The romance is happening in a well placed and comfortable way ( while still giving me butterflies and making me squeal sometimes). All the actors are really pulling through ( the two leads are just outdoing themselves). The OST is also on point which is just insane because this drama is just running with perfection so far and not slowing dow. I have faith that they'll manage this quality for the next ten episodes. I haven't found such a masterpiece in years, I honestly don't know how to act. This is my reccommendation of the year man, just watch it.

Of course I'll update once the drama is finished so I can gush about my love for this drama some more.

Alright, so I spoke too soon lol.

It's a great drama, gave it a nine. But:

1. I feel like the climax for the romance plot never hit.

2. the climax of the actual plot which started out so beautiful and intricate ended up so messy and confusing I had to watch it three times to even grasp a basic understanding ( trying so hard to figure it out really annoyed me but maybe I'm just dumb idk)

3. The acting started to blow out of steam ( some of the main performances seemed borderline forced in the last few eps idk why)

4. As I'm writing these points out it feels like this might be a "me" problem ( maybe I was in a bad mood during the last few eps so please don't take my exclusive word for it).

5. You should still watch it cause who the hell am i to say the final quarter was bad

Great drama, it just suffered production.

I can't get to technical with terms, so I will review it like a viewer who just found it on a feed and watch it in a go. There is really a lot of positive in this drama. I really love how from a few years back, Taiwanese drama has really set it's own bar on dramaland. For 13 episodes it is just enough for this great story to unfold. It is not perfect it has it's flaw. The story is not new, is a story of what it will happened in a future if humans doesn't start treatin the Earth and its resources well. It alsos touches the part of how tha lonely an Almighty God fell in love and thus this story unfolds. The acting from every single one is really great. The Ml, and Fl acted out their parts perfectly. Especially the ML, he acted his part as a godly being really well. He was fulfilling his part as a guardian and a godly being, he was so convincing that you understand why he took or made the choices that he did, even if the FL didn't understand it her self.
I like the romance part of it. It was subtle and it wasn't "mundane" the writers kept the integrity of this couple on point, they didn't make the ML do questionablethings that you woul think a god wouldn't do.Not gonna lie i will like to see more fluffy stuff or more romantic exchanges between them, but i was still satisfied. The music was really amazing, i really liked it.

Now i would say one of the downside of this drama is that they suffer in content. Maybe the external things going on like maybe Covid or restrictions made it difficult for filming. Or maybe the production didn't have enoug staff, i think that the replaying constantly of the flashback was really overuse. They didn't have anything new to add depth between the relationship of the couple. The bad thing is that is so noticeable that you just gotta bear with it. But it does come a little annoying.

Other than that my advice will be to watch really carefully especially the las espisode were they explained everything it can be a tad confusing. Other than tha enjoy. I really recommend it.

this drama is easier to find than some day or one day. and has Indonesian subtitles on iqiyi.

My expectation is to watch this, because someday or oneday. Of course the result in my opinion for this drama is a bit less than the story, because it is confusing, namely the concept of kakarayan (creator).

For music, acting, cast, scene everything is very good. This is a rare drama that is very enjoyable to listen to.

For romance, I don't really get it, maybe because of the effects of gods and humans, but luckily in the last episode it starts to get chemistry.

As for the storyline, it's a bit blurry and less powerful. like there was absolutely nothing to say. luckily i decided for myself that the main of the story is xie tiandi preventing her death and keep the world raining brings blessings
