this was my first Pino BL and rewatching it…

this was my first Pino BL and rewatching it after almost a yr its still sweet and fun. but considering the controversy - hard to ignore the name of the perpetrator, highlighted at every turn. everything light and sweet is cast by this darker shadow that makes u (me) keep wondering, what was going on behind scenes. how much until this point did Paolo and other's put up with, just to keep working on this project. makes me sad...but putting that aside (as much as i can) this 1st ep was a great intro into the main character's - but like the first time around the sec Judit come's in, she steals the spotlight - she's a freakin bulldozer and kinda love and hate it - love how strong willed she is, but would hate for this kind of person to have any power in my life, cause it would turn into a constant battle - very tiring

Hi (cute) Neighbor!

It's a teaser pilot that only runs under 20 minutes. But within that short runtime this episode managed to introduce 4 main characters and 2 other side characters that would eventually give the breakthroughs. The struggle of a college student to earn a living hoping to contribute better with his low middle class family. Karl's determination is anchored in having a strong family values. Conflict started with a wrong assumption and ended up contracting an unconventional relationship. Perhaps from the cutest tsundere to Karl and Vlad's undeniable chemistry, they are led to a journey of the unknown. Fast paced scenes with details incredibly laid out for the rest of the episodes. Watch out and remember the dialogues in context.

So far so good!

8/10 because I haven't seen anything outstanding just yet, and some of the internal monologue moments were A Bit Much for my tastes - but I like it so far! Strong first ep and I'm looking forward to watching more.

One of the best pilots in the Pinoy BL Scene

One of the best pilots in the Pinoy BL Scene. It set up the premise so well and really made us excited for our PangPang! The chemistry was so strong from the beginning. Oh, and I'm loving Ate Judit!!

such a strong pilot episode

to be honest, this is my first ever local BL series to watch. i mostly watch BLs from Thailand. but heck, there's just something to this series that made me want to watch it and upon seeing the trailer AND the pilot episode, i knew immediately that i will be hooked with this series. the music, the lines, even the opening credits! it's not your usual BL wherein you're only staying because of the actor (though Ian and Pao are such a precious babies to see on screen), but rather the story of the love and the lightness of an LGBTQ not just the struggles. there's so much "kilig" even for their first episode. definitely going to watch this series until the end. kudos to Juan Miguel Severo, Direk JP Habac, and of course to our PangPang, Ian and Paolo Pangilinan!

Strong Pilot Episode!

The starting episode started the series strong. The cinematography and the level of production of the episode really shines out professionally even in the starting episode. The delivery of the lines of the main actors, Karl and Vlad(played by Paolo and Ian Pangilinan; nope, they are not related) were succinct and on point save for some scenes that could improve more like the monologue (when Karl introduces himself) and the confrontation scene(Karl confronts Vlad on him trespassing in his room). Nevertheless, the chemistry between them is undeniable and I believe that they could develop much more in the next episodes. Ate Judit (no H; played by Adrienne Vergara) acted exceptionally and brought a character that everyone is surely going to follow (I am very much amused at her antics). The selection of music for specific scenes were very much on point and helped in accurately delivering the scenes. The GSP cast and crew really did well and I am very much excited to see more episodes given the thrills of seeing the series come to life from the public drafts in Wattpad.

Pretty decent.

I have not been this excited to a BL series but unlike other series that I've watched, the pilot of this series caught me really well in terms of its pacing, ost, music scoring, cinematography, the camera angle, lead's acting, and whatnots. So far, for a pilot episode, it's quite satisfying for me, at least. But with this quite a strong start, I would expect for this series to improve even more and would give us a satisfying series overall. Reading the teleplays in wattpad, there's just more to expect in this series. And I am hoping to wonderful ride with this one. P.S. Hoping this wouldn't hurt me a lot since I cried a lot in the wattpad.

Strong start to a love letter!

I don't usually expect much from pilot episodes since I view them more as something to test waters, given the trend in the majority of the series I have watched. From the opening lines to setting the premise at the end, it felt like every single frame was meant to advance the plot without any fillers nor throwaways. Fantastic start!

Promising Though Overhyped... (So Far)

Like In the Movies was one of the most anticipated series in the BL community. As such, my expectations for this BL series was quite high. Unfortunately, the first episode was a bit of a let down. I was kinda disappointed. Yes, the story and the two ML's are cute, but they're pretty run-of-the-mill: the fake relationship, the fujoshi friend/sister and the confident gay and the panicked gay. There wasn't that special something that helped to differentiate this series from the legions of BL series out there. Here's hoping that the upcoming episodes will be better...

Gaya Sa Pelikula (2020) Episode 1

Episode 1 was a really good episode. I enjoyed it immensely. The series and this episode paid homage not only to Filipino (Pinoy) romantic comedy (romcom) movies and our most popular love teams but also to Thai boys' love (BL) series with the overall Theory of Love movie poster feels, and of course, the series creator being a Polca, with the TayNew post-credit acknowledgement. Some may say that there were too much romcom clichés and BL tropes (like the fake/pretend relationship trope), but hey, who cares, it still worked! I may not like the fact that Vlad exploited Karl's financial predicament to get the fake/pretend relationship he needed, but Karl doesn't seem to be a pushover, so I'm pretty sure that aside from having Vlad pay his rent, he'll also get other benefits from their arrangement. Even with all the clichés and tropes, this series still managed to look fresh. The script, the acting, the production design, the cinematography, the music, the graphics, all felt new. There were a few corny lines here and there (especially during the monologues) but they were negligible given the mostly excellent writing. Dialogues were generally natural and relatable which aided the acting of the lead actors, Ian and Paolo (although they have the same surname, they aren't in any way related with each other!). While there's always room for improvement, for newbie actors, Ian and Paolo did pretty well. They were good-looking too! Adrienne Vergara (who played "Judit" without an "h," lol) was just fantastic. Audio-visuals were pretty neat with very clear intentions. Gaya Sa Pelikula reminded me a lot of Gameboys and Hello Stranger where every graphic, every item, every shot, etc. seemed to have purpose. The OSTs "Unti-unti" by UP Dharma Down and "tyl" by kakie, while not originally made for the series, were nevertheless perfect for the scenes. Overall, I'm really proud of Gaya Sa Pelikula and I'm excited to see more episodes!
