Truth or Dare (2021)

I'm not bad, I'm just scripted that way

TL;DR version: This show is a fair introduction to Chinese period rom-com and is a must watch for any fan of the leads.
Long version: You would think that doubling down on the arranged marriage and mistaken identity trope would yield lots of opportunities for engaging stories and character developments but due to a lazy script and directions, this show just moved along the well trodden path and did little more than kept pace with other run-of-the-mill period dramas.
Like so many before it, the potential is there. The two different settings, two pairs of good looking CP's. Historical crime, present day felony, political manoeuvrings, unrequited love are all fodder for this genre and many a good yarn have been spun before. Yet this show just never seemed to want to take the bull by the horns so the characters were one dimensional, character developments were minimal, plots felt tired and by the book. Everything is serviceable but that's about it.
Case in point, the FL was a simple, naïve girl with a heart of gold, the actor played it dead straight and she was like that the whole show. That made her seemed gullible and a lot of her actions counterproductive. That is a shame as there were lots of room for her character to grow but it was barely explored. Ditto, the 2FL was lauded for her intelligence and cleverness, yet she was trapped in the same predicament for the bulk of the show. I'm not going to start writing about the antagonists as that would fill paragraphs and involve spoilers but you get my drift.
Overall, the actors did their best with the parts they were given so the problems must lie with the script and directions.
I thought the beginning of the show held a lot of promise but it soon settled into a trudge that included all the time worn tropes. There were cute moments but I don't feel a strong chemistry between the CP's. There were some production issues which is pointless to detail here but attested to the general lack of care surrounding this show. It was a fluffy, harmless viewing but that is damning it with faint praise.

The storyline was cute. I felt that the main leads did their part with their characters. The idea of a switch marriage was very clever for a storyline. A supertype hero with a dual personality is also clever. Out of all the characters in this drama, I like Xiao Bae the best. Vesta Ding wasn't that bad at all... lol This is not the kind of drama I would watch normally and I just end up watching this one. The costumes were the norm for that period although, I loved the colors. I feel this is a good watch for others that enjoy dramas that had just a little fantasy. Martial Art was not enough for me but it was okay.

Short, funny and easy to watch with pretty actors

I started this drama because I was really captivated by Teresa Li in Sword Snow Stride. I'm very surprised how different she acted in this drama then in Sword Snow Stride.

First off, the drama should have been called switched brides or something like that, not sure where they got "Truth or Dare", but it's easy to remember I guess.

I liked that it was a short and light hearted drama. I loved that the angst was low and the costume and hair wasn't the typical period piece dramas we usually see.

I will admit, that I liked the FL in Sword Snow Stride a lot more because I felt like she could convey dramatic and sad emotions better than being silly and light hearted ones. It felt a little over the top at some parts (her comical side), but maybe that was the whole point of the drama.

This is my first drama with the ML and he's very good looking to watch. I also liked that he didn't play the typical stoic non-expressive ML. He had expressions and it was a little rough, but it was better than no emotions.

It should also be noted that the drama is split between the two couples, since the brides are switched. I actually liked the second couple as well. It was a different dynamic and I liked that they were set at another location.

Most of the drama are the separate stories between the two couples, but I didn't feel like anything was dragged out. It's such a short drama, that's kind of hard to do.

Overall, it was light hearted, modern (for a period piece) and who doesn't like to watch young pretty actors on the screen? I felt like the drama needed higher reviews.

Wonderful drama

I really love this drama and the acting. Also, the couple is so cute. I really love the main leads chemistry ?. I wish that the couple will still act together in the future, I fall in love with them. Also, I wish they make more of drama like this.
Tooo much love from me. Some fan might said it is not a good drama, but for me I rate it 100/10. I just love it, do not judge me. I been look for some drama like this.
NO MATTER WHAT, THIS DRAMA WILL BE ONE OF MY FAVORITES. I JUST LOVE IT.




The main character are cute, she just older then me little, but she act so well. I also wish to become an actor, but that would not happen haha.

Another miss from scriptwriters. Pity.

This drama is strictly for teens, and honestly, I lost interest in the thief/princess love story and skipped many parts. The other couple kept me hooked though. However, a lot of things were downright annoying:

- The maid who was always in everyone's business.
- The excessive bullying and physical abuse, be it father/son or son/heroine.
- The slow-paced love story that dragged on unnecessarily.
- Girls admitting their love super late.
- The girl who was supposed to be strong in the first episode turned out to be weak later on.
- The same facial pouting by everyone.
- Inconsistencies that were nauseating.
- The girl was always hungry, which was annoyingly repetitive.
- The supposedly married girl, who was also a supposed princess, could go out freely without any escort or maid.
- And many more such inconsistencies.

The drama did have a few cute moments, and the sound effects were not ridiculous, but that's about it. The chemistry between the actors was fine, and the actors did their best with the script, but none of them stood out to me. Also, they all looked average, and the hairstyle they had was terrible. What's with the same hairstyle for males and females, with that falling hair on the side of their faces? It looked messy, not cute, and it didn't suit any of them.

The drama ended on a happy note for everyone, as expected. However, it's not something I would rewatch.

All in All light and fresh!!

From all the historical dramas that i've seen lately, this is the lightest of them all. Not much politics was involved. In short it was a very easy going drama.

To think i almost skipped this because of the ratings!!! This was actually a good watch. I liked the cast but somehow i was more invested in the 2nd couple!!! Their chemistry, amount of skinships and natural acting is just soooo soo beautiful and i thoroughly believed the emotions that they were trying to portray each time. Don't get me wrong I also liked the main CP but i felt like the emotions of the 2nd CP were a bit more deep and well felt than the main CP.

Also, the cast (all of them) were sooooo good looking it's unreal.


If you are looking for a light historical drama that doesn't involve that much politics, heartache and killings.... I recommend watching this!!! There were scenes that were a bit cliche but all in all a fun drama to watch!!

Makes me smile!

Story: Loving it so much, though one may say that the storyline is unrealistic, I rather say it’s interesting. The male lead who is a general have a secret identity of being a masked fighter. On the other hand, the female whom he married to is a street performer who accidentally got married into the general’s household and thus have to hide her identify and act like she’s the actual princess. Funniest thing is she hates the general but love the masked fighter since she was young. Little did she know that they are the same person!!
It’s the kind of drama that goes “couple who finds each other annoying and often brickle falls in love”
Cast: I know Huang Jun Jie role is pretty similar to his previous drama (Dr. Cutie). In both drama, he is a general and even have the exact same hairstyle and aura. BUT STILL, this drama is looking better than I thought it’ll be.

Highly Recommend!!

I watch this drama because of Huang Jun Jie I am very fan of him... I taught it will be a different story but I didn't know that the male lead will be like the male lead in the drama Love Like White Jade because of how they disguised themselves with mask and dark costume and just to find who killed his mother (in Truth or Dare) His father (In Love Like White Jade). After watching 7 episodes I am so happy about what will happen in the next episodes. Oh yeah, the servant in Love Like white Jade (for the Male Lead) is also there he is also the servant in Truth or Dare (Male Lead) I know everyone noticed it after watching it. Now for the female lead, I liked her because she looks like Chen Zhuo Xuan. Her role there was as a street performer with her father but after she agreed to marry the bandit, she met the daughter of the 9th Prince who should be marrying Mei Fu (the Family of Male Lead/ Huang Jun Jie) Accidentally both of them switched in the Xiang Lou ( The Place where the Female Lead and the Daugther of the 9th Prince Staying before the marriage) And Their Story Goes on... I am still in ep 7 I don't want to spoil many words but it will be worth watching.

Como sofri assistindo

Os primeiros episódios confesso que achei legal e me prendeu um pouco apesar da história ser bem batida muito usada. Logo de cara notei que este drama é aquele que assistimos quando não temos nada a mais de bom para ver ,mas como já estava enrolando a meses para assistir dei uma chance.

Mais que decepção, 16 episódios pra mim estava ótimo, achei a historia muito arrastada , nenhum pouco dinamica.
A primeira protagonista , misericórdia , muito burra, infantil, não fazia nada certo, era um fardo na maioria das vezes fico brava quando colocam personagens assim me sinto ofendida . O protagonista (general) não me convenceu muito também ,não vi química entre os dois .

O segundo casal não gostei muito, enrolaram demais, tudo nesse drama foi arrastado, me com vontade de para por diversas vezes, logo eu que tenho uma lista tão grande de dramas para assistir , fui perder meu tempo assistindo logo esse. Foi muito sofrido assistir isso .


Em fim não veria de novo e nem veria se soubesse que seria assim, veja apenas se não tiver mias nada de bom para ver,ou se que ver um drama levinho com comédia para descontrair de outro drama sofrido que tenha assistido anteriormente e se não liga muito para esses clichês já tão batidos.

Engaging with amazing Chemistry

Summed up in two words...Sooooo Good!! This has been highly entertaining to watch that I can't wait to see what the characters are going to do next. The FL lead is adorable and fun (For cuteness, I rate her 10/10). The ML is grumpy and serious and handsome. There is definite chemistry with opposites attract. Since I LOVE enemies to lovers tropes, this is definitely my cup of tea.

Chemistry: 10/10
Flow of Story: 10/10
Secondary characters: 10/10
Laugh out loud moments: 10/10 (the female lead is so funny)

This series doesn't drag. It's easy to get lost in the scene until it's the end, and I'm anxiously awaiting the next episode (sometimes without subtitles). I highly recommend this so far.
