Eighteen Again (2020)

Rewatched it and I still like it a lot apparently

I rewatched this to see Wi Hajoon and Lee Dohyun, and they did so well, along with all the other actors. I remembered little bits of moments, but I couldn't remember the right sequence of it. So when I watched it, I was surprised when I expected something and it still hasn't happened, or something I expected to come out later is actually in the earlier part of the story. Well, at least that gave it kind of like a shock factor so I wasn't bored. And back then I probably missed some things, or some details I couldn't remember well. And it's nice to see those little details, along with some moments that I thought were really good.

Wi Hajoon did such an amazing job portraying Ye Jihoon. When he's in the field, he looks very cool and charismatic focusing on baseball, the thing that he loves and does best in. When he's with Dajeong and Seoyeon, his sweeter and more emotional side comes out. He's everyone's dream boy and everyone thought he's perfect, but as everyone else does, he does too. I love the way they wrote his story, and tying the story with Hong Daeyoung was a pretty obvious, but nice touch. The man he was looking for all these years to thank is the ex husband of the woman he likes? It was nice. Especially because though he wasn't able to date the person he likes, she's with someone who saved his niece. And that they end up just being friends, it was really nice to see, rather than cutting each other off completely so they wouldn't be awkward.

And Lee Dohyun is also really amazing. I mean, His role is a 37 years old dad that just happened to go back to his 18 years old self, pretending to be a student, a friend to his children and their friends, he's acting as a (pretty bad at hiding his real identity) actor. The only other character that was closest to this I could think of is Jinyoung in The Dude In Me, a student whose soul got swapped with a gangster (who turned out to be a dad, and end up meeting his daughter and his first love) ((and it's really a good movie but these two "teen dads" vibes are VERY different)) Sometimes when he did the things he does as a dad, it can either go the comedic route or touching route, there's no inbetween. One of his best moments is the one where he did sign language to his dad after a competition. If I remember correctly, I probably cried about this on my first watch. I probably cried a lot more on my first watch in like, any moment.

The cinematography in this is really amazing. All of the shots are very beautiful. I loved the moments where it transitioned from young Hong Daeyoung/Ko Wooyoung to present time Hong Daeyoung. It's just a small little thing as a reminder that Ko Wooyoung is Hong Daeyoung and it's pretty cool. The sets are also really nice, but I especially loved Ko Deokjin's geeky themed house. I'm not a big avengers or game fan, but still, seeing props and outfits like the iron man outfit, thor's hammer, captain america's shield was really cool. To have a house decorated with all of your interests in every part of the house seems really cool and it's like a dream house.

just what I needed

I never wrote a review before, but this one really convinced me to do it. I obviously watched the movie this is inspired to, but the experience was a whole different thing.
The acting was so nice, the intensity of the emotions kept me hooked the whole time. I cried, I laughed and I squealed. It was so refreshing to see high schoolers from this perspective. I am too old to enjoy teen dramas without feeling nostalgic and looking at them almost as if they were my kids. So this POV was exactly as I expected it, it put things in perspective.

Something that really stood up for me was that for once they really let us have a drama-free drama. Don't get me wrong, the story itself and the emotions of the characters are enough to give you cry material for days, but every time the show hinted at a catastrophe it turned out to be actually something good (except for one particular moment that got resolved quickly). It kept me on the lookout for some big drama, some fighting scenes, and some scary moments... you know as usual we get those weird episodes where things get super bad before being good again at the end.
NOT THIS TIME, the plot was consistent, they kept it straight...the struggle and the pain the main character was feeling was already enough.
There were a few moments when my heart really broke for him... the parents' meetings. When the young Go Woo Young met both his father and then his mother in law... those scenes were so full of untold things and it was very touching.

I have no way of expressing how much I enjoyed Lee Do Hyun acting. His sweet smile, his intense eyes and his very touching crying scenes. A whole package. All actors and actresses were very enjoyable to me, the right amount of cheesy too, but it was in the nature of this story anyway.

Another mention is Wi Ha Joon, he played such a cool character, as always we all feel bad for the second lead but he was so graceful about it, and such a good man too. Loved this character.

No need to speak about Kim Ha Neul, she is a queen she was awesome ♥

To me this was a 10/10 mostly because even if the story may seem weird and cheesy, it really has some very deep moments that make you question your own choices and thoughts. It gave me happy tears and tbh now and then we simply need a drama like this.
100% would recommend and would totally watch it again

Yanno when I first heard that thr drama was based on an American movie I totally forgot that I actually seen the movie with Zac Efron much earlier before. It was only after several rewatch that I started to wonder why some parts are mighty familiar.

Honestly there was plenty to love about the drama and plenty of things to chesish. And I love how the drama expanded a lot of the many plot since the original really moved the plot quite fast that you may not be able to appreciate many of the details.

I really live the choice of casting for both of Hong Daeyoung. Lee Dohyun and Yoon Sanghyun really do resemble each other and even have similar sounding voices, to which whenever the two transitioned to each other you'd barely be able to pick up the differences. And I love how both of them were really great at bringing up the many emotions and how great the two of them in carrying out their characters to the best of their abilities. I really love the focus on the relationship as Daeyoung works to mend his relationship with his wife and kids as well as reconnecting back to his father, whom he missed so much.

I've seen quite a number of dramas with Kim Haneul, and quite a lot of them involved her playing middle-aged women who happened to be caught in a marriage crisis. Of all those dramas, I have to say that I enjoyed 18 Again more than I ever expected. While that may partially be related to the fact she's acting alongside Yoon Sanghyun and Lee Dohyun, I have to say that that the writing play a lot of importance in making Jung Dajung a very likeable character. And I guess because of that, like Hong Daeyoung, we also inevitably couldn't help ourselves from falling in love with Dajung and her family.

I really love the expansion of of Deokjin's story. To which, aside from showing that Deokjin had quite a geeky collection he also dabbled in the world of cosplay. And I really love the focus on Ms Ok and Deokjin as an older geeky couple, not to mention how the relationship was portrayed in a very normalised way.

Loved all the comedic elements and how it always looked natural whenever Deokjin and Daeyoung argued heatedly to the point of exchanging slurs to each other that they didn't even care if other people would see their weird dynamics. I really loved all the tiny additions to the plot that made the drama even more relatable compared to the original movie. This drama was really well-made.

A Journey Through Time and Wonder

Before I start giving my review of this drama, I want to say first that all the actors did an amazing job in this show! They were all impressive!

Back to my review, I love the story of this show, the way they face their problems, and the way you can really feel their emotions, especially their frustration. The chemistry of the main leads was fantastic; their problems as a couple and individually will really make you cry. A lot of topics were shown, and they did justice to portraying them and solving them as family, friends, and workmates. Hong Dae Young is such a green flag; who wouldn't fall for him? His going back as a young version of himself and trying to work things out will make you look forward to the next episodes. I give this drama an 8/10.

I don't give this a perfect 10 because there is really nothing extraordinary in this drama. I've seen a lot of this kind of show, and nothing here in this drama is outstanding. The start was perfect, but like any other drama, the ending felt rushed. His suddenly going back to his old self while talking feels a little bit out of place. And the love triangle around Shi-A is not necessary, especially his stalker. I really wish they stopped adding random crime to all Korean dramas, especially if it is a romance or drama type of show.

Nevertheless, it is still recommendable and fun to watch.

Ended in Marriage, Ending in Marriage

#18Again (18 어게인) Review:

/- Actual Rating: 9/10
/- As far as all those second chance/lifetime-themed plots I've watched is present in this local adaptation of the Western movie, 17 Again, the KDrama quality and respect to the references were inevitably up to its standard. With all the events that took part in the lives around Hong Dae Young and Jung Da Jung's family, I can say that this became a mild and warm embrace to a show I've been meaning to find for a breather (after all the PTSD that Duty After School Part 2 gave me).
/- It is well-built. But not well-written. Had they put a more intense conflict(s) in the series (build-up of the stalker character, issues, the twins finding out the truth in a way, etc.), I may have rated this with a perfect 10. But then, I've enjoyed the mildness and warmth of this drama—everything falls into their rightful places if you live past your regrets in life to the fullest.
/- Because of this, I'm pretty much convinced I won't need another show to watch for a while. Happy I picked this one up. 좋다!

Unexpectedly good

I read lots of negative reviews before I started watching. I gave it a go anyway because I wanted to watch Wi Ha Joon (I'm following Little Women). Even though he's only SML and only showed up rather far in between, he gave a strong performance, and the rest of them are also very good. Hence I watched from start to finish.

I don't understand people's complaints that this drama has too much fillers, especially after first half of series. This is obviously a long drama, not just a 2 hours movie. I think every scene have their own purpose - they're not just "fillers".

This drama has similar vibes with Go Back Couple. I have to admit I enjoy Go Back couple more, but this is also as enjoyable.

(warning: long note ahead because this drama was too good to have more explanations!!!)

okay, so why did i decided to watch this drama even if it has been 2 years alreadyy??? Gosh, this drama was such a masterpiece to begin with. The tears fell from my cheeks were worth it because of how this drama was so touching. I think this note would be i think messed up abit and not quite organized, because I have tons to say about this drama. And after I watched all the episodes and now I decided that this would be another comforting drama I'll watch again soon, and turns to be added to my favorite kdrama list I had.

So I'll go first to the detail of how I discovered this drama. Last year, 2022, I was having a little confusion with my choice whether i should watch this drama or not. I already added it on my watchlist until I get to watch it during the christmas break. it was a great timing because I was craving for so much comfort, especially the genre for this drama is life, comedy, and romance (which is these are one of my fav genres and where I find to get more entertained as well).

Let's get to the story. Since it combines fantasy, romance and comedy, I was expecting to be even more entertaining. Even the plot was very interesting. I never get to expect how detailed the messages expressing from the story as well. I love how it turned out. There were tons of reflecting stories and life-decisions that the characters has, with some unexpected short-comings that fits at the right moment. In conclusion, the plot for me was so perfect. I really thought it was like a random story came from what this drama tells about, but it was really surprising when the story comes to the end. Realizing that life has so many possible things to happen, whether it has something you need to make is as our expectations, or unexpected things that we were blind to look forward into. But except how Hong Dae-young turned to be in his early 20's or back in his high school days. And in the last few episodes of the drama, how I wish when I have my own family, I would felt the things that Dae-young and da-jung had with their own family.

To the casts, I appreciate all their efforts and how the give so much effort to give all their best to express the characters they were portraying as. Just at the beginning of the drama, seems like all, again all of them deserve so much recognition. From the main cast, but I would also not forgot to mention the supporting casts as they did so well from this drama. At the beginning until the end of the drama, I really love their resemblances especially to Hong dae-young and Jung da-jung in their early 20's until their late 30's. I would like to mention the actors and actresses who make this drama so special, Kim Ha-neul and Yoon Sang-Hyun, both of them I had my first time to see their roles from this drama. And at the end, they made me think of looking forward to watch their other projects as well. They made their roles from this series so special. To other casts that I get to know them from their other roles from the dramas I've watched, Lee Do Hyun, Han So-Eun, Roh Jeong-eui, Ryeoun, Wi Ha-Joon, Choi Bo-min, and Hwang In-youp. These casts mention were giving me so much feels and I get to love how the express their hardwork and giving this drama in a special way that I get to watch it and gosh their visuals gave me so much feels as well! HUHUHU they were so good at this drama!!!

Overall, again and again, I would like to thank these casts who did so well in this masterpiece that now I decided to watch it again, and I was proud of myself that I get to rethink all over again and giving myself a chance to watch this drama again. Love the plot, like everything the drama has in between. This was so perfect. I have nothing to say at this point, because I think everything mentioned in this note would be something I'll read again to convince myself watching this comforting drama.

Very recommended, beginner friendly as well. Great for time kill, and would be very rewatchable. <333

A deep expansion from the film

“There is one thing I learned after getting young. No matter how old you get, there is always something new to learn. If you think of it as a regret, that’s the end of it. But when you think of it as a lesson learned, it brings a new beginning.”

First of all, I just want to say that I really applaud the producers for choosing to make a k-drama based on ‘17 Again’, which is a movie I really liked the message of. I think it’s a bold and respectable choice, since the themes and lessons in the original aren’t exactly ‘fantasy’ friendly as they’re very realistic ones, therefore the drama is not your typical romance. In fact, this drama isn’t even about romance. This drama is real life.

I will start with the plot. There is a lot of overlap with the original plot of the movie for sure in the beginning of the drama, some scenes are even literally recreated exactly like the movie. For example the “You reaaaaally look like my husband!” and the ‘dad confronting the bully at school’ scene, even the script was true to the original (with its own spin in addition) and I found that hilarious!
However, what the k-drama really dives into that the movie didn’t get to show is Da Jung and Dae Young’s exact struggles in their relationship and marriage and the raising of their children. The miscommunications, the ‘just bearing it by yourself’ things, taking the other for granted, how they started drifting apart etc. It really shows all kinds of details from the start of their timeline of when they first met in high school until present day. Si Ah and Si Woo (their children) also get more expansion and characterization. There is the main plot but also ‘sub plots’ revolving around them, whilst everything is still connected at the same time. We get to see Da Jung pursuing her dream to become a news anchor and it’s one of the main things that the drama revolves around as well, which I find interesting.
So in the movie Mike started projecting his own unhappiness on Scarlet and blaming/resenting her for it because he regretted not having pursued basketball, and that’s how they eventually divorced. In the k-drama however, it’s not so much just about the basketball thing, but also about how Dae Young started taking Da Jung for granted as well. As I mentioned earlier, there was a lot of miscommunication, or rather, a lack of communication to be more precise, which caused both of them to make negative assumptions about each other, and that started causing cracks in their relationship. Both of them were unhappy at some point and started losing respect for each other, and it showed in the way they treated each other.
For example, in the flashback scene at the beginning of episode 12, Da Jung took her time and prepared a beautiful breakfast, but then Dae Young suddenly gets up all hasty and irritated and yells at Da Jung for not having woken him up in time (yelling = red flag #1), which Da Jung responds to with an apology calmly. Then, he proceeds to say “Nothing stays in your brain. It must have so much space!” in a condescending tone (red flag #2). He is irritated, I get it, but that is a straight up disrespectful/mean comment, which frankly I would have never just brushed it off if I were Da Jung, it’s just not okay. It always starts with the little things, and it really builds up over time. The thing is people often don’t even reflect over what they said because they subconsciously think it’s justified just because they said it when they were angry. Which it is certainly not.
It also happens the other way around. When Dae Young gets mistreated by clients and then scolded and blamed for it by his boss repeatedly, he becomes miserable, and ends up drinking regularly. When Da Jung comes home to him drinking she thinks he’s just ‘pathetic’, instead of making an effort to find out his underlying reasons for doing that and trying to understand him and be there for him. This is also an act due to lack of respect, since she practically ‘gave up’ in her mind and created this narrative about her husband who is ‘just a pathetic alcoholic at this point’ before she even really took the time to dig deeper. When your partner says ‘nothing is going on’ but they clearly look miserable, that’s a definite cue to actually take it even more seriously and take the time to understand what the other one is going through. I’m sure she knew him well enough to be able to tell he wasn’t ‘just drinking for the sake of it’, but since her belief was set she didn’t want to do that. People see what they convinced themselves of and this is a prime example of that.
Back to present day, Dae Young is now back to his younger self and he, just like in the movie, enrolls into Si Ah and Si Woo’s school as Go Woo Young to look out for them. This is his whole ‘redemption’ arc, and he does a really good job at it. I won’t go into every single detail but I like how through his redemption he starts to really understand his family, and starts to learn how to appreciate them better. He starts to notice the little things that contribute to one’s happiness.
What I don’t like however, is that in the end the kids never find out that Go Woo Young is Hong Dae Young. I think he should have revealed it to them, since he really bonded with them as Go Woo Youg. Besides, I find it weird that Ji Ho, an ‘outsider’ in this context (bc he’s not part of the family), gets to know whilst his kids don’t. I just find it a shame since if I were in their place I would feel sad that my really close friend (aka Go Woo Young) is just suddenly gone with a vague explanation. I also think they deserved to know that their father was right beside them this time around, because they wouldn’t know it was his effort if they didn’t know it was him! However I can’t say I dislike the ending, this was just one of the things I would have preferred.
I also found it a bit off-putting that towards the end of the drama when Da Jung finally knows Go Woo Young is Hong Dae Young, she suddenly gets upset and insists that Dae Young should pursue his basketball dream this time and that she doesn’t want to ‘ruin his life again’. I think she should have communicated that differently. I get that she felt doubtful and guilty that it was all her fault that she ‘stopped’ him from his dreams, and regretted telling him she was pregnant, but I’d have preferred if she’d listen to Dae Young’s feelings first before pushing this on him.

What I do like about the ending is that they didn’t go with the ‘and then we lived happily ever after’ route. Even when Dae Young and Da Jung get remarried, their ‘new’ marriage isn’t perfect either, as none is. I like that they still show them fighting, being ‘petty’, being frustrated at times, but in the end having the respect and appreciation for each other to try and learn from it and to communicate better and be better for each other. So this time while still imperfect, it’s different. It’s hopeful.

Acting wise, I DEFINITELY have to say Lee Do Hyun carried the show! Yoon Sang Hyun (adult Hong Dae Young) did amazing too, but since the majority of the drama is about 18 y/o Hong Dae Young’s redemption, we see more of Lee Do Hyun. His acting is absolutely amazing. His crying scenes really break my heart. His expressions are so rich. It’s also interesting to me because for the majority of the time he has to ‘act normal’, and not look suspicious, so he often times ends up watching over his family more quietly in the background, which I found kinda sad but it still managed to be impactful in some kind of inexplicable way.
Kim Ha Neul (Da Jung) I’m actually not so sure about. I don’t know if it’s the writing or her acting or both, but I didn’t find her execution that good in this drama. There was always a sort of ‘I’m acting polite because I don’t know you well and I don’t feel that comfy/free yet around you’ vibe when it came to her interactions with any character. I wasn’t convinced she was close to anyone even if she was, because she always spoke and acted in such a ‘careful’ and ‘formal’ manner? I didn’t feel chemistry between her and most of the cast to be honest, except maybe with Wi Ha Jun (Ji Hun), but I think that’s because Ha Jun is just incredibly charming that it’s hard NOT to vibe with (elaboration will follow lmao).
I also didn’t like that whenever Dae Young spoke from his heart to Da Jung, she would ‘tch’ him (not in a bad way but in a ‘staaaahp why u so cheesy’ way) and just sort of brush it off instead of properly responding back? I really wonder if the ‘tch’ thing is just Kim Ha Neul’s actual habit or if it’s Da Jung’s ‘written habit’. This happened many many times in the drama and I didn’t like it. I also found it kind of weird that whilst hosting the divorce program Da Jung admitted she regretted divorcing Dae Young, and that she wanted to thank him for everything he did, but in the end she didn’t actually do it? As in having that honest, open and heartfelt talk from her side too. It was one-sided because it was mostly Dae Young being candid. But I think this is more of a writing flaw than an acting flaw. However that being said, I also didn’t feel chemistry even between young Da Jung and Dae Young. To me it felt like that Dae Young was always more into Da Jung than it was equal for some reason. I definitely think this could have been done better. Because the plot overall is very beautiful still, I just wasn’t always convinced of her love and affection for him and the depth of it (mostly because of a combination of Kim Ha Neul and Han So Eun’s acting and how Da Jung’s actions/lines are written). For example, back in school, when Dae Young said to go out with him if he scored, Da Jung just said no when he did and walked away, but later reveals she only said no because she thought that attempt wasn’t ‘fancy enough’. With that info, instead of writing it like that, I would have written it like “I like you too Dae Young, so of course I would go out with you! But I want you to make a bit more effort. Arrange a date and ask me ‘officially’ again okay? *winks*”. I just think this would have been way more endearing and playful, and would create more of that flirty vibe between them. It conveys her standard, but it’s not dismissive of Dae Young, and still expresses her feelings towards him all at the same time.
That being said, I think everyone else did well acting wise, I don’t have anything particularly extraordinary to point out regarding the others’ but it was good!

Character wise, I MUST just give a big honorable mention to Ji Hun! Honestly if Dae Young wasn’t the main character, Ji Hun would and should have been. I have to frankly admit that I actually shipped him and Da Jung!! I really like how even though Ji Hun was always clearly into Da Jung, he never overstepped any boundaries or came off too strong. He stayed her friend and encouraged and supported her genuinely, without an expectation of ‘getting her’ in return. He truly is a good person and I really admire that. I also love that they exchanged heartfelt talks and opened up to each other and just bonded as people, regardless of romantic or platonic love. Seeing how he lit up whenever Da Jung got along with his niece was so wholesome as well I melted. I also find it beautiful to see how he got encouraged by Da Jung and decided not to retire from baseball and to continue being him and doing him. Another detail I liked was when he saw how Seo Yeon (his niece) clearly liked it better when Da Jung read to her with those fun voices, he tried it too later and texted her later about it when it worked. I thought it was really cute.
Also, even after being rejected when he confessed to Da Jung, he still stayed friends with her and supported her. He just never had any ulterior motives to whatever he did and I just love that purity about him. Ji Hun is definitely my favourite character in the whole show. And of course he’s hot LMAO (but that’s a bonus).

As for Da Jung, as I explained earlier I disliked some of her script, but if we’re just talking about her as a character there are lots of qualities to appreciate. She’s really strong, really caring, kind-hearted but also resilient. I find it admirable she fought so hard for her dream, and even when she was knocked down multiple times she never gave up. She trained so hard to become a news anchor, and she is really skilled in improvising, which is what got her to where she was and which I find impressive. She also doesn’t seem to hold a grudge even when people aren’t nice to her. She saves Yumi from sexual harassment even when Yumi was a bitch to her before. What I do need to say is that I wish the drama showed more of her interactions with Si Ah and Si Woo though, so I can’t comment too much on that part. However I could still see her being a very caring and protective mother to them. As for Dae Young I don’t have much to say about his individual character without relating it to his family and to Da Jung, but I know that was not the point either so I am fine with that. He becomes a true friend to his kids as time goes on and I found that really beautiful.
Regarding the (other) side characters, I actually really wanted to see more of Deok Jin and Ms. Ok (aka the geek couple), but sadly the drama didn’t show too much of them nor give them enough interactions (in my opinion). Since they’re both geeks and gamers, I wish they would have met in game or something and then decided to meet up and find out each other’s identity, I think that would have been hilarious. Them running into each other at a cosplay con is still funny though! I also must say that that last move of his was IT. Like how can you say no to that? That was just epic. The kiss was also epic (you know what I’m talking about). Their deadpool wedding gift was also hilarious LOL
Choi Il Kwon is trash, while watching him I just hoped for his sub-plot and him to be over and gone asap. His face just looks punchable imo. Yumi was also a bitch but she helped Da Jung later and changed for the better. I also liked that they didn’t make her out to be the typical ‘bitchy shady character’ pulling something cliche.
Chu Aerin is a good friend to Da Jung, but I also liked how she respected Dae Young’s decision to keep his identity a secret when he went back to his younger self.
Si Ah and Si Woo I don’t have that much to comment on either without relating it to Dae Young, but I really enjoyed seeing them get closer to each other. I especially enjoyed seeing Si Woo and Dae Young grow closer through playing basketball together. I found Si Ah bratty in the beginning, but later I understood more of her character. I also think she’s a badass when displaying her self defense moves. That scene where they were beating up the stalker at the police station was hilarious. First Da Jung came and hit the dude whilst saying ‘HOW DARE YOU TRY TO HURT MY DAUGHTER’, followed by Si Ah’s grandma doing the same and going ‘HOW DARE YOU TRY TO HURT MY GRANDDAUGHTER’. We love a good protective family.
For Ji Ho I actually wish he got more screen time/elaboration. Since he grew up together with Si Ah, they must have experienced a lot together. I just think it would have been interesting to see more of him because of that reason. I did find it a bit strange how Si Ah suddenly agreed to go out with him as she didn’t really display any romantic interest to him prior? Not that I’m against them as a couple but just a critique point.
I also enjoyed Hwang In Youp’s cameo as Goo Ja Sung, even if he didn’t have that much screen time either. He starts off as a typical bully but later changes and improves and apologizes to Si Woo for taking his own frustrations out on him. I actually also felt bad when he got turned down by Si Ah…I thought his confession move was really romantic!! Hwang In Youp can SING ok. I just have a weak spot for singers. His character actually reminds me of Han Seo Jun from True Beauty, since there he also starts off as a ‘bad boy’, but is actually a sweet guy. The way he protects Si Ah even after getting rejected also reminds me of how Seo Jun still helped and supported Ju Gyeong even after getting rejected too. HWANG IN YOUP IS JUST CUTE.

OST wise nothing stuck out to me except 'Hello'. It's a really pretty song and the lyrics is sweet too, but I think the composition/melody itself leans a bit towards sad sounding? It's still a good song though. The rest of the OST is fine, just not that special imo.

Overall, I really enjoyed this drama. It dares to be different, it dares to be realistic. It’s not a perfect execution in my opinion, but the sincerity and heart and messages override the flaws. I probably wouldn’t rewatch it because for me the chemistry between the lead actors is essential and I just personally didn’t feel it, but as this wasn’t so much about the pure romance I didn’t mind it as much this time. I would still highly recommend this drama to everyone as it’s very heartfelt.

Thoroughly enjoyable and absolutely heartwarming. A definite feel good!

I have had such mixed feelings about this show, that even as I write this, I'm not entirely sure where this will lead. When I completed the show, I was left feeling happy, warm, hopeful, optimistic and absolutely soaked with the sappiness of the romance. But I was also left with this indescribable feeling of.. Something not being.. Quite right somehow. If the way that I just explained it is any good hint, I hope you understand when I say that I cannot exactly pinpoint what didn't click with me. Let's get into the details!

It's no secret what this was a remake of, and I had watched 17 Again and liked it, as a young adult who was hopelessly crushing on Zac Efron (nothing you ever say will ever top the shade I throw at my younger self). I knew when this was picked up that the korean remake will add in a lot of feelings for sure. And it did. Not for the first few episodes though. I was finding it hard to stick around at least till the 4th episode I think. But the way that bonds between family and friends were created and unfolded was beautiful. I smiled through tears and sobbed so many times along the course of 16 episodes. But. But. There were also quite a few side plots that I did not really feel the connect with. Several incidents were dramatized to be lengthier and bigger than they should have been, it got to the point where it felt strained and obvious that something was just being said and done to be a filler. There were many, MANY, strong points in the show but along with them came this draggy, drudgy, aimless parts as well.

When I say that it was hard for me to stick around during the earlier few episodes, the reason I got through was entirely because of the actors. Lee Do Hyun - this man, carried this on his young able shoulders and everyone in the cast helped him in their own ways. This is probably the first time I've seen Kim Haneul in a drama, and it was pleasant watching her, I could see the veteren charm there. And I really think Yoon Sang Hyun shines in such roles (I need to watch more of his works). I also loved, loved Wi Ha Joon's role! He's got such an appealing vibe, suited the role too. But my oh my, Do Hyun! The spectrum of emotions this man showed were so brilliant and memorable. Every emotion, every expression, every dialogue was delivered and FELT. Be it an 18-year old father, or a 37 year old father transformed into an 18-year old kid - I could feel everything that the character was trying to convey. And all that is thanks to Do Hyun. There are great levels of details and nuances in the way he acts out Hong Dae Yeong. The supporting cast is one of the absolute best too!

I adored the OSTs so much! I've got a couple on my playlists now. Only One, Hello and If You have become favorites! The whole album in fact, is a very easy listen, and after having watched the show, each song now has a feeling attached to it because of the show. It's a beautiful OST album.

When it comes to the matter of rewatching it, the chances are quite low. But I definitely would not mind watching this for Do Hyun and to relive some of the interactions between the characters. Have I mentioned how beautifully they've shown the bonds? People travelled full circles to be where they were. Also, this is was such a mix between realistic problems people face in life and love, and a fluffy mushy romantic's dream come true. There were portions that felt real, relatable, and others that felt entirely in-your-face drama like (=never happening in real life, stop waiting for it). What I mean to say is that there was push and pull happening for me when it came to making a stable connection with the drama as a whole.

In conclusion, even though this didn't bowl me over, this in no way, is a drama that should be passed by, please watch it. The actors deserve it, the production team deserves it. It's a beautifully made drama that showcases familial love and bonds in a very heartwarming way. Not to mention, it's got some wonderful background tracks that will be a blessing to your ears.

Very good and heartfelt

The plot gives precious lesson for married couple, children, and parents.
For children, sometimes they feel that thir parents abandoned them, not giving much attention, but actually they really love them, but some of their actions are 'backstage', without them knowing. Also when they was kids, they don't know what did their parents do, what did they sacrifice for the sake of their children. Every single thing from a child is special for parents, even simple things like the first word they say, the first time they can ride a bike, first day of school. It's all precious.
For parents, maybe they won't understand their kids as well as their friends (portrayed by the main lead of this drama Hong Daeyeong), kids often hide their secrets and try to face it theirselves.
For married couple, it's important to maintain communication, or everything would be misled. This is the general message I got from this drama.
My heart can't stand the heartfelt scenes, especially the main couple's journey at the beginning of their parenting life. I looked at my parents after I see them, because I feel generally all parents did the same. Everyone should give this drama a try.

SUPER RECCOMENDED TO WATCH!!!

This drama is very interesting to me and i personally really like this drama(rewatched this drama 2 times),i also really like the actors, their acting are good. I would say this is a pretty light drama with some family elements , cried on some scenes.
I also really like their character especially young hong dae yong (lee do hyun)
i really like the scenes when (young) hong dae yong interact with hong shi ah and hong shi woo (his kids), it is very cute and heart warming

Honestly i really like the overall drama and very recommended to watch this if you are bored
