The Good Detective (2020)

Political corruption! Injustice! Human misery & trauma!

Definitely recommend this if you're interested in a k-drama-styled exploration of how political self-interest, confirmation bias, and protectionism lead to the corruption and subsequent injustice of the Korean judicial system.
But it's also fun enough with k-drama kitsch for my mom to enjoy!
It's not perfect (small, kinda clunky at times, real exposition heavy, some plot and character threads become comically ridiculous) but it's got enough special moments for me to go, wooow, I love this show!
For example: there are many subtle acting moments rich with subtext, innuendo, and wit; it gave me an insight into a gentle, hidden level of Korean dialogue i've never watched in a k-drama before.

Strong script, strong actors, solid story. Fuck yeah!

Un detective quien a vude dure et un débutant : bromance et réussite assurée.

Je le dis tout de suite : j’ai beaucoup beaucoup aimé ce drama ! En premier lieu, j’étais soulagée qu’il n’y ait ni socio/psychopathe, ni fils de meurtrier, ni maladie incurable ou bizarre et qu’on ait affaire à des gens ordinaires dans leur bon et leur mauvais !

ça ne les rends pas fades ou quelconques pour autant !
Kang Oh Chang est le flic blanchi sous le harnais, qui n’a pas d’avancement parce qu’il a tendance à marcher sur les pieds de la hiérarchie par amour de son travail bien fait, et il est affublé d’une sœur en cours de divorce que la perte de la garde de son fils rend hystérique et insupportable !
Le jeune lieutenant Oh Ji Hyeok est assez froid, fermé et individualiste, solitaire, extrêmement perspicace et un poil mystérieux !
La journaliste adore son métier, a un idéal très haut de sa profession, mais au dessus de tout elle admire et respecte son patron Yoo Jung Seok, rédac’chef de son journal.
Les autres personnages sont à l’avenant, et le scénariste leur a écrit des scènes souvent drôles, ou touchantes, très réalistes et des dialogues vivants qui permettent aux caractères de se dessiner peu à peu, ce qui fait qu’à la fin on les connaît tous individuellement, ce n’est pas la masse des figurants anonymes, chacun existe vraiment. Les rapports entre eux sont très justes, avec la bonne dose d’amitié, de mépris, de rancune ou d’ambition. D’autre part, ils ne sont pas tous sympathiques, même ce qui ne sont pas « les méchants », et parfois ils sont louches mais sympas quand même !
L’intrigue est parfaitement menée, les voiles tombent peu à peu, les vérités cachées sont déterrées une à une, on se dirige vers la résolution de l’énigme avec du suspens (je n’ai pas deviné qui était le vrai coupable avant les policiers eux-mêmes…)d’une façon progressive et équilibrée, comme au cours d’une vraie enquête.
La première moitié monte avec intensité vers un pic d’émotion, après lequel l’action retombe comme on retomberait aussi après une forte commotion le temps de reprendre ses esprits, puis ça repart très vite et là ça ira jusqu’au bout. Pour moi, il n’y avait pas 5 minutes de trop, pas de longueurs, simplement un changement de rythme imposé par l’histoire elle-même !
Autre très bon point : le réalisme. Il n’y a pas de débordement d’hémoglobine, façon « Voice » mais les poursuites, bagarres sont très vraisemblables, et il n’y en a que le nombre nécessaire pour que ça reste dans la mesure du possible d’une brigade de policiers de quartier.
Pour finir, un grand coup de chapeau aux acteurs, tous excellents même les petits rôles, tous parfaitement dans leur personnage, et les lauriers vont au personnage principal : Son Hyun Jo, que j’avais croisé ici et là mais qui ici assume le poids de tout le drama, incarnant parfaitement l’homme simple, faillible comme nous tous mais qui ne peut pas vivre sans que la vérité éclate et que l’innocence soit reconnue. C’est l’homme qu’on aimerait avoir comme copain, ami, grand frère, d’ailleurs ses hommes l’adorent et un jeune est rentré dans la police « pour être comme lui ».
A côté de lui, légèrement en retrait, jetant souvent un regard ironique sur son chef et ses éclats de voix tonitruants, mais solide, sûr, intelligent, le lieutenant, joué par Jang Jeung Jo que j’avais déjà remarqué dans « Chocolate »,. A mon avis ce garçon ira loin. Il a une intelligence du personnage, un instinct et une justesse de ton qui ne s’apprennent pas. Moi qui adore la bromance, je me suis régalée de la relation quasi filiale qui finit par s’établir entre les deux homme si différents.
Lee Elijah campe une journaliste encore pleine d’idéaux, qui admire son patron, et qui va avoir à faire un choix terrible et surtout à l’assumer ensuite. Elle aussi est très juste, pas du tout l’héroïne chichiteuse souvent vue dans les dramas. J’aime qu’elle fasse des choix qui ne sont pas ceux habituels des dramaturgies dramaesques. Cela lui donne une réelle humanité.
Dernier point : l’OST est très belle, parfaite et IL N’Y A PAS DE CHANSONS !!!!

Conclusion : excellent drama policier aux airs classiques mais avec une grande richesse d’écriture et une belle atmosphère d’humanité.

We need more dramas like that , we need to see Idiot unit crim V2 together again

Okay, to start with this drama is topping my favorite dramas list and my infinity rewatch drama list. Everything about is perfectly done it's so rare for me to find such a drama nowadays.... Starting with the storyline :
It's so well written and produced, you will find literally every single lesson you should learn through your life.
* Friendship? Check.
* Perseverance? Check.
* Teamwork? Check.
* Loyalty? Check.
* Betrayal? Check.
* Suffering? Check.
* Sincerity? Check.
* Funny scenes? Cheeeeeeeeeeck.
* Mystery? Check.
* Plot twist ? Check.
* Unfairty? Check.
* Kindness? Check.
You will find everything in this drama. The actors mastered their roles like pros and specially team idiot crime unit V2 ?? what made the drama so funny and beautiful to watch is their teamwork and their love to each other ! It shows how a real work should be done, because after all you are spending years with the same people that they become your second family. This drama also made me learn that no matter what the truth is , it should be said in a way or an other, it will also be shown in a way or an other.
Evil has no way to dominate this life, it will eventually come to an end .
Kang Do Chang + Oh Ji hyuk are the type of the realistic due and their closeness is the best ❤️
At the end, I would like to thank every single person who worked on this drama , I loved them all equally even the evil characters hahaha.
I would like if The good detective becomes a series instead of a drama and we'll ged season of it because honestly I can't get enough of it ? they made me live in the drama I didn't feel that I was watching I felt like I was there beside them!
Finally, I wish for many more dramas where those actors are all together.

For thriller drama lovers, this is perfect

this drama is perfect in every aspects, I watched it with a lot of interest and i literally didn’t want it to end. It’s that kind of drama that can’t leave your mind even after it finishes. The plot is extremely good written. I admit that this is a typical story, nothing new, but the way that the story is shown to the public it’s incredible and that’s why i like it so much. In some moments there’s a little bit of comedy. The development of the characters is also so good. There’s also a cruel and sad moment that i still don’t understand why the screenwriter decided to make it like this. Overall it’s a incredible drama and i could recommend it anytime,

You must pay attention, because there is a LOT going on!

My husband and I can never agree on anything to watch. I'm alone in watching K-dramas because he doesn't want to read subtitles. Well, I convinced him to give it a try and we were both hooked!

This show is full of action, drama, corruption, subterfuge, tension, comic relief, and enough tension to cut with a knife. I'm not going to go into the storyline at all, except to say that just when you think you know who the guilty party is, someone else comes along and you find out you were on the wrong track. I am not, however, saying that this show was full of red herrings that didn't make any sense. This was a tightly-written and well-executed show.

The cast was exemplary. Everyone was perfect in the part that they played. I saw a lot of familiar faces from other dramas I've watched and was surprised at the range that they were able to achieve. Someone that I've always seen as a good guy was chilling in this.

Two of my favorite things about the show were 1) discussions and demonstrations on what makes a family. It's not always genetic, but a family unit can be just as strong by people going through shared experiences. 2) The relationships. The police detectives were just so bonded as a unit, and their interactions were so funny. You know, you give someone a hard time every second of every day, but when push comes to shove, you'd take a bullet for them.

I actually have that "let down" feeling that I get when I finish watching an excellent show. I've invested time and come to know and care about the characters, so I'm kind of at a loss. Upside? There will be a second season, beginning filming in October 2021!

Oh, and I don't remember if there was a tag for romance, but this is NOT a romance. I normally stick strictly to romances, but I'm so glad I branched out this time!

best crime drama

this was the best crime drama I've ever seen. From beginning till end it kept me edging on my seat although there wasn't that much of a thrill. But it was captivating in a very special way. I've never been that captivated by a drama before.
The cast was amazing, everyone portrayed their character so amazingly that it was easy to delve into the story. The story is in a way pretty simple but at the same time pretty amazing. We don't have that many korean police dramas where the detectives actually stand up for their past mistakes and try to correct it. This was something different and it was nice to have it.
The news of a second season made me really happy. This drama totally deserves a second season, I can only recommend it.

Amazing show! But missing few details!

The Good Detective is one good show! It's very amusing and interesting! it makes you wanna think MORE about who was behind the killings! So I do suggest this drama for whoever looks for a thriller or detective kind of shows! However I couldn't get over few things!

* The trial :
I understand that yes we do have innocent people behind bars! I do believe that justice is NOT served! I'm not going to go through what happened 5 years ago! But my main concern is the trial! The defendant’s lawyer gathered all kinds of evidence to prove that Cheol was not guilty!! Some of those were really strong!! Me as a person who watches ( autopsy, real trials for fun ?) wasn't convinced on how the prosecutor was so easy in demolishing all of them! The video from Cheol’a work, showing he was at his work at the time of the murder was a big alibi for him!but it was rolled out! Also the watch! When Cheol’s lawyer provided the court the information about it and how it was related to the real criminal since there are only 2 of these watches so it was easy to track the owner down! But again the prosecutor said it was made by a 75 year old man and they can't rely on his weak memory!! The common sense says that this kind of expensive industry comes with ownership papers, and receipts! So NO need for anyone’s memory! You could check the paper work to find out the truth!

I felt bad for Cheol! His last scene was an epic one! I think this small scene and the other one when he was crying coz he regrets not seeing his daughter when she came for a visit, are enough to let anyone wants to watch more of Kdrama! I was surprised myself!!

The rest of the series was carried out beautifully! The relationship between the actors was smooth and simple! I liked how Kang Do-Chang and Oh Ji Hyuk got along! You don't need to put so much effort to see these two! You just smile when you see them with the rest of the team with their comic scenes and sarcastic lines!

*The romance:

Loved loved the chemistry between Oh and Jin! Loved how he smiles when he sees her reaction on something! Loved how he wiggles his emotions with her! As a shy yet strong brave detective, this part was covered very nicely! You see him showing interest in her, she feels it, then he hides it again she gets puzzled then he smiles! I think he liked to do it! It was very obvious in episode 10 when he called her to thank her for getting him out of jail! She was excited for what he has to say, then he said yes I wanna double-check if you did your homework! She pausedd for a while like ( what the!!!!) and he smiles!! This kind of scenes were very flirting and you can sense love is in the air so easily! I was a little disappointed as there are not so many scenes of them together! No holding hands or even a kiss!! Also, the viewers were confused with some of their scenes! I mean their relation escalated and a confession came in episode 11, another confession from Oh to Kang in episode 13 when he told him this relation is a man- woman relationship! But then when they wanted to arrest Yoo, jin’s boss, you could see an angry-hate look from Oh to Jin whwn they met at the journal Due to suspicion of a killer was on the loose ! For someone passing by noticing this look he would be like what is going on why is he mad?! But since us the viewers know what his true feelings are, it made no sense for me! We want to see more of their beautiful ship in season 2 please!! Holding hands! Kissing maybe, we are waiting for Oh’s big move! The writer makes him releases his feelings then asks him to hold it back?!
Last thing I couldn't figure it out was Jin’s past!!!! Something happened with her father, made her mum ill and made her journalist herself! We don't know anything about that part! Oh and Jin needs to know more about each other! And we need to see the hearts flying all around them while they are doing that???!
A conclusion: a great show! I think the more you watch it over and over, the more you get a clear idea about this and that!! I 100 % recommend it!!

even if there is no sesaon 2, it was goood

Writing this I thought why did I like this series ? Was it because Det. Oh ji hyuk (OJH) was handsome, was it because of the playful chemistry between Det. OJH and Det. Kang Do Chang(KDC), KDC and investigation team 1 or KDC with his sister. Doesn't matter caused i watched it anyways.

The actors played their roles superb. The story as well, a little dragged on but very good. I felt the pain when *SPOILER** Lee Dae Chul died, especially when he's going to receive the death penalty and his knees weaken but he see's his daughter and you can see his confidence to face the penalty. But honestly I hated his character of just forgiving everyone.*

I didn't care much for the music and would I watch it again? Maybe , but it would be worth watching. With all honesty, I normally don't watch jtbc drama's let alone jtbc crime drama's but I must say they did a wonderful job on this. And like my title, even if they did not have a season 2 , I was very satisfied with the ending. Infact I'm a little shocked there is a season 2 but hey I'm grateful anyways.

To people who want a drama that is not as gory, a little psychology and a few funny scenes ,this is perfect for you. The whole series can be summed up by the song Heathens-twenty one pilots. You really wouldn't know the psychopath or the murderer sitting next to you. Well I hoped this review helped.

amazing drama (a little bit of spoilers, not rly specific)

i loved this drama so much, i think there’s going to be a season two and i’m so excited for that! the end of season one was so wholesome and it just gave me this sort of closure that most dramas don’t. if season two happens, hopefully there will be just a teeny more romance involved bc so far it has just been some flirty moments ;) kang do chang and his family is so wholesome, i cried watching that last episode with the situation with his sister. somehow i feel proud after finishing this drama, proud of the characters, what they’ve been through (ik that sounds weird af).

Can't fault this show

If you are looking for a thriller drama that is a complete package then look no further than The Good Detective.

This was a show that was recommended to me and it is rare that I like someone's else recommendation and it is also not often that I rate a show a 10. Every episode makes you want to keep going and watching what will happen next. Although a thriller, it also has mystery as well as a wonderful comedy element that will genuinely make you laugh. It also has unexpected twists which is rare to find if you are a fan of crime dramas. The show is fast paced which I love.

If you are wondering about romance, then there is a hint of it but no real romance as such since the story is very much focused on solving the crime and finding the real culprit. Any romance would have been out of place. However, you find a really nice brotherhood and male bonding as well as female bonding. The entire cast did a wonderful job and suited their roles perfectly with some grey characters in the mix.

Since season 2 is starting, I definitely recommend adding this to your watch list and binge watch it. I have high hopes season 2 will be equally engrossing and loved.

Drop it, just 1 eps The story is complicated and messy.

In only first episode, many questions have arisen and are confusing,,,

At first I thought it was good enough because the time description was written down and applied to each incident,,but the time statement given does not match what is happen


a very absurd coincidence,,, Suddenly there was an incident 5 years ago that was brought up again, and the suspect's child 5 years ago disappeared and someone turned himself in saying he killed the child suddenly the head of the prosecutor who demanded that the suspect used to say that the suspect was innocent to the reporter

EP 1 ,,, 2015 murder then lee dae chul tried on 2016, then 5 years later is 2021 Or 2020 right? But when park gun ho turn himself in to the police is on 2019 ,,,

And When the reporter interviewed a family of victims of murder 5 years ago, one of victim family told her just like he saw the murder himself or he committed the murder himself .


Ep2, what does the prosecutor mean? Said the reporter gave the final touch?

So the guy actually wants the death penalty removed or carried out? , isn't that what was signed is the implementation of the death penalty? How come newspapers are the opposite? ,, then when the male reporter met someone it said the president would abolish the death penalty, but when the scene of the man watching a 11 victims serial killer, he said public supports the death penalty, so what do you want, I drop it soon!
