Ma Boy (2012)

This was so cute and funny :P If you're looking for a drama with a complicated plot, and several unexpected twists, then Ma Boy isn't the thing you're looking for LOL. But, on the other hand, it's entertaining, innocent, and light-hearted. I really liked it! :D The only problem I had was the lead actress. Not with her, exactly (she's a great actress), more with her age.
As the show progressed, I realized there was a huge age gap between the main leads: like, 8 years. I usually don't care, especially since it had nothing to do with the story. They were both portraying seventeen-year-olds, after all. But in real life, she's younger than me, which is usually quite weird because I'm just 15. She is 13, and the lead actors were already between the ages of 19-21. So each time there was a romantic scene, I was sort of torn between going "awwww" or getting weirded out LOL.
At the end of the day, I decided to ignore that fact and simply enjoy the drama!

Finished watching this a couple of days ago. Was not going to review this but I really enjoyed watching this so I hoped by writing one others would watch it too.

It was amazingly cute! Loved the cast and the acting was amazing. Through out the drama you got pieces of the puzzle that helped you fill in the whole story and I really enjoyed it. Not your typical gender bender. The plot was thought out very well, although there were parts where the editing could have been a little bit better because it seemed a little choppy but it didn't take away from the story. Loved it so much!

I strongly recommend this if you're looking for a drama, plus it's only 3 episodes so I say GO FOR IT! I hope the actors and actresses get more drama opportunities as the main (the hero/heroine). Now go watch it, you won't regret it, and if you do (which you won't) it was only three episodes. What's there to lose? GO WATCH IT! >.

Story: The story reminded me of one of my favourite mangas, Tenshi ja Nai, which is also about a guy dressing up as a female celebrity but in an all girls school. This similarity is what drew me to the drama in the first place. I love gender benders and this was the first one I came across that had the guy dress up as a girl. I thought the story line was cute and simple. If they had the chance to create a 16 episode drama, I believe that this drama could have done so much better. We would of had more time to get to know the characters and get more background information on who each character is.

Acting/Cast: Despite being so young, Kim So Hyun did a great job as Jang Geu Rim. She was cute and innocent but strong-willed, which I liked about her character. Sun Woong was also great. He was completely gorgeous as both a male and female character. I just found it hard to believe that others thought he was a girl when he was dressed as Irene. He has broad shoulders and is unnaturally tall for a girl. It still was funny to see. He also is a great dancer. I loved watching those scenes ^^ As for Min Hoo, he played the perfect self-absorbed teen idol. It was hilarious watching him flounder around Irene. All in all I thought the cast was great ^^

Music: I didn't mind the music in the drama. We have some music by the leads, Sun Woong's group TOUCH, Twinkle by TTS, and Pink Lens by CHI CHI. I thought the music was catchy and cute.

Rewatch Value: Since this drama is so short the rewatch value is really high! Also the cuteness of the drama just begs to be watched more than once. I have seen the series twice now and plan on watching it again. I just love the cute moments between Jang Geu Rim and Hyun Woo

If you want to see the most stupid movie/drama on earth, then go for it. Seriously, it was ridiculous, but fun to watch. They could have chosen a better guy. It was so obvious he was a man. That muscular body? Hiding constantly the adam apple? Really? A girly face alone isn't enough. The movie "Jellyfish Princess" had a boy crossdressing as girl who was much more fitting for such a role. Boys with small bodies and slim figures do exist.
Overall it was cute, romantic, funny, entertaining. If you don't take it too serious, it is very enjoyable. I even watched it twice and I don't do that often.

light and comicical

HOW I CAME TO IT
I stumbled upon this drama accidentally when I was searching for a web show of few episodes. This drama had 3 episodes of 60mins each, not so long so yeah I gave it a shot and binged it all in one sitting.

PLOT VIEW
The storyline is pretty simple of the gender identity of ML, who pretends to be a girl who is a celebrity. So of course there are paparazzi and fan club wars and interestingly another celebrity is in love with his female version. All these plots make an interesting comedy when FL and ML become roommates and help each other. The usual female changing into a male is boring cause I saw a lot of those dramas. but being a celebrity is even a harder task. all the fan wars were pretty funny, but it turned into bullying was not good.

ACTING
Kim Sun Woong played the duel role nicely. If he did not come in the original form I would have considered him a girl too. Makeup artist definitely deserves applause for his great work.
Kim So Hyun as Jang Geu Rim looks playful and lovely in the role. Her acting felt raw and superb considering she was just 12 or 13 while this was made drama.

MUSIC
The music and overall BGM were smooth and soothing.

REWATCH
Rewatch is yes because this drama gives a warm fuzzy feels with its light comical tale. It is really good to boost up a mood.

APPRECIATION
With the compact number of episodes, there is no unwanted crap and the storyline is fast-paced. All the actors seemed immature which is in a good way to play their roles as teenagers of schools.

Sooo what am i missing here again?

I started watching Ma Boy mainly because it was very short (only 3 episodes) and also because I like the gender-bender theme in dramas.

The first episode was...not good. I would have dropped the drama if it was a regular drama with 16 or so episodes. It’s not that the characters were bad or anything, it’s just that there’s nothing that can hold your interest. When the guy transformed into a girl I was very curious about how he was going to change his voice to make it sound like a girl. Guess what? HE DIDN’T SPEAK. NOT EVEN ONCE. Am I the only one that got annoyed by that? Like hoow are you supposed to attend school and NOT talk to your classmates and teachers?? HOW?


Tae Joon was probably my favourite character. He was funny, l liked the confusion he had about his feelings towards the main girl and the fact that he felt like he cheated on Irene by doing that which is absolutely ridiculous since they never even had a conversation lol.


The romance aspect was okay. I just learned that the main girl was 12 in this. 12?? Wow, I must say she did a pretty decent job for her age. Maybe that’s the reason why the couple didn’t get close often but it’s okay, it wasn’t needed that much.


I didn’t like how they took up the boy-dresses-up-as-a-girl theme. The guy was constantly unhappy and dull as a girl. Also, he had no feminine movements whatsoever so it made it quite boring to watch.


And the ending. What?
The very last scene was kinda cute but it was weird how they chose to wrap up the show and the couple.


Aaaanyways, personally I would only recommend this drama to you if you want to increase the number of dramas you’ve watched lol. It wasn’t a complete waste of time obviously, I did enjoy it. But i would be perfectly fine without it. I bet you will be too.
