Nothing unexpected; everything done well

A timid girl who has been viciously bullied for being “ugly” learns to do makeup and then transfers to a new school, where she gains immediate popularity for her “beauty.” People from her past keep showing up and threatening to expose her secret, while the male lead—who once saved her life, although she doesn’t know that for half the series—supports her unconditionally and competes with the local “bad boy” to win her heart. Great exploration on beauty, worth, and the things we do to fit into societal standards. The two male leads’ bromance is delightful to watch.

I'm not sure why I see so many people complaining about this drama and the amount of hate it's receiving is unnecessary. I went into the drama having no knowledge about the webtoon and based on the synopsis I expected this drama to be the typical cliché high school drama plot with a beauty component to it. And with that I really enjoyed the comedic scenes, fluffiness of the whole drama and the chemistry b/w the leads.

I think the ones that didn't enjoy it were team Seo Jun fans or had high expectations as if something more deep would happen to the plot. I had to say this because while watching the drama I skimmed through some reviews and comments making sure not to spoil myself and saw many complaining about things that were expected of the drama. Now onto the things I loved and didn't like in this drama!

Aspects of the drama that I loved:
- Even though Suho's character starts off with the reputation of being cold, I'm glad he quickly shows his true and soft side in the beginning without the gradual need of the FL to "tear down his walls"
- Totally agree with the top comment by the name Parveen on this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCiYZRPZ1Hs) regarding Suho's sad life, why he's become cold and discussing the hate his character got while many felt more bad for Seojun
- This is my first drama watching Moon Ga Young and I enjoyed her acting, didn't feel awkward at all and will try out her other dramas
- I loved Seojun's character of being an actual softie too like Suho, always helping JG and looking out for her. Near the end I started to feel bad for his unrequited love. I thought I'd dislike his character in the beginning but quickly latched on and enjoyed watching him
- I personally enjoyed the comedy and the exaggerated humor as I found myself laughing A LOT and it really set the lighthearted vibes for me
- I watched this after watching "My ID is Gangnam Beauty"; I tried to not have a biased opinion but I can say that this is much better than the latter as the chemistry b/w the leads were so good and Eunwoo portrayed a character that had more substance compared to MIGB. The emotions he portrayed were much more genuine with his eye smile and he wasn't restricted to being so monotone like he was in MIGB
- Loved JG's family dynamics, her sister having a unique personality and her relationship with Mr. Han was cute
- Liked how Suho found out about Jugyung's bare face early on so it wasn't like some secret that was dragging on and made it realistic as he recognized her
- First half of drama kept me going and was enjoyable so I'd likely re-watch it whenever I want something lighthearted

Aspects that I didn't like:
- Many have complained about the cringeworthy-ness in this drama however what made me cringe the most was when Suho got hit by a car and the slow motion of him floating mid-air was what irked me
- I think Suho flying to the US to see his father was unnecessary. It felt like the writers wanted to drag on the drama or had no ideas left. It felt rushed and disconnected in my opinion and for that reason I really think the drama could've done 14 episodes instead of 16. If they had something extra for the plot then that would've added more interest but it was just the typical "having to be separated which dragged on the romance". If there wasn't such a disconnect at the end I would've given an 8.5
- I was hoping for some sort of closure or lesson to be learnt near the end about beauty standards within society. However it just seemed like it was all about the love triangle happening and the friendship b/w Suho, Seojun and Seyeon which started getting boring. Not to disregard the stigma about Seyeon's death but I think the plot got boring and faded out with the constant torment Suho was experiencing about his friend's death
- The sudden breakup because Suho didn't want Jugyung to wait wasn't necessary, just another way to prolong the episodes
- Due to it being a cliché high school romcom, I expected the love triangle but it would've been more fresh if Seojun had another love interest? And maybe if Soojin continued playing the protective bestfriend for Jugyung rather than being jealous and trying to steal Suho

I didn't expect to cry so much when Jugyung's face got revealed and was suffering as I relate to it personally. I recommend going in with low expectations, just enjoy it and you'll like it. I think for many they expected a lot which I'm not sure why and came out disappointed. If rating in terms of a lighthearted romcom I'd give it an 8 and could go up to 8.5, just didn't like the last 2-4 episodes as it faded out a bit. Overall, I definitely recommend this drama for any romcom lovers, its lighthearted, funny, fluffy and enjoyable!

True beauty is a really exciting drama. If your interesting in comedy, romance love triangle person, this movie is perfect for you. Every role of this drama, is perfect. Especially, Ju Geong role and her brother. I found them as comedians. Though, I am still sad that Seo Jun didn't end up with Ju Geong. Like, the writers are literally hurting Seo Jun every episode.

second lead syndrome is hitting hard

the overall plot of this show was really good, but the ending really disappointed me. throughout the first half of the show, i had a big conflict about which male lead i'm supporting, but at the end i 100% supported seojun. i was crushed by the ending, considering that even after all of his hard work she still did not want him. when he finally decided to let her go, i was BAWLING my eyes out.
i feel like the message of this show is really beautiful; those who really love you wouldn't care about your looks. however, i feel like at the same time it's giving a message that people won't love you if you are not pretty enough, which is (unfortunately) somewhat true in our generation.
overall this show is pretty good, i really loved the aesthetic of it too!

Este drama toca un tema muy sensible y también muy divertido

Está basada en un Webtoon que lleva el mismo nombre.

“¡True Beauty es una comedia muy divertida! Vas a reír mucho con las cosas que pasan y las ocurrencias de sus personajes, eso no lo dudes.”

True Beauty es una hermosa historia de amor cliché pero que toca temas muy serios que vale la pena considerar. Me gusta que haga conciencia sobre problemas de la adolescencia que son serios y pueden marcar su vida.

Fue muy duro ver las escenas de bullying, pero mostrarlas fue un movimiento acertado por parte de la producción.

Suicidio Este es otro tema que mucha gente prefiere evitar. He leído más de una vez, que en Corea del Sur el índice de suicidios es muy alto.

En conclusión, la belleza no tiene un modelo específico, cada uno tiene un encanto diferente. Además, es la actitud y el buen corazón de una persona lo que determina qué tan bella/o es.

My First KDrama

This was the first KDrama I’ve completed. And it’s a great introduction to Korean entertainment. I loved loved loved this show!

The Story and the acting is so much fun to watch!

I thought I loved Su-ho, but then I fell even more deeply for Seo-Jun. That’s what a great second male lead can do!

All of the main characters are brilliant though, but it doesn’t stop there. The main female lead, Joo-kyung, her family is also hilarious and have there own great subplots. I personally have a soft spot for her sister Hee-Kyung. And maybe her love story plot is a little untraditional with her taking the more dominant role, but that just made me love her all the more.

I would watch this drama again and I would highly recommend it to others.

Adorei esse drama, meu primeiro drama com meu marido Cha EunWoo. Mas o drama não é sobre um triângulo amoroso e sim sobre o bullying da Lin Ju. Achei extremamente importante, mas acho que os demais problemas adolescentes me deixou meio que com preguiça, vai ser difícil eu assistir um drama adolescente de novo.

ns fue lindo

tuve este kdrama en mi watchlist desde que se estrenó y no me animaba a verlo hasta que lo subieron a netflix entonces bue

me leí el webtoon de true beauty (esa wea es eterna) así que aki vamos: me gustó mucho como adaptaron la historia, tiene un montón de clichés ya sé y en el webtoon fue peor así que cuando me vi el kdrama todo me pareció super tranki. y yo sé que muchos se pelearon a muerte por defender a suho o a seojun, yo soy team suho desde que leí el webtoon pero cuando vi el kdrama CHILLE no sé porqué les pusieron actitudes medio tóxicas a ambos, a veces se mandaban unas cosas mmmm pana. tampoco voy a decir q odie el kdrama, la vd me diverti mucho viéndolo y gritando a la pantalla cada q pasaba algo (bueno o malo) y otra cosa que me encantó un montón fue el ost !! i´m in the mood for dancing, call me maybe y love so fine son hermosas. bue, en conclusión fue lindo, cumple su propósito de comedia romántica 👍🏼. eso es todo una review medio chota pero es lo q hay

APAIXONADA

Adiei tanto o momento em que eu finalmente iria sentar e colocar esse dorama no computador pra assistir. Desde o início eu sempre soube que ele não iria me decepcionar quando eu fosse vê-lo. Pretendia assistir ele depois de ler o webtoon, mas não consegui aguentar e tive que ir assistir ele o quanto antes.
Eu amei tudo nesse dorama. Não consigo dar uma nota baixa pra ele em nenhum quesito. Tudo aqui foi muito bem desenvolvido e bem feito. Poderia ficar horas elogiando essa produção maravilhosa.

Pontos positivos:
1. Tem um final feliz
2. Tem um trisal lindo
3. Personagens bem desenvolvidos
4. Trilha sonora PERFEITA
5. Boys gatos
6. Boys compreensivos e protetores
7. Romance que surgiu desde a infância
8. Elenco maravilhoso
9. Um quase enemies lindo

Pontos negativos:
1. Sofrimento
2. Separação em momentos inesperados
3. Personagens muito grudentos
4. Protagonista muito escandalosa
5. Falta de diálogos em momentos importantes
6. Muitos mal entendidos
7. Momentos constrangedores entre os casais
8. Um romance impossível de se obter na vida real
9. Poucos episódios (no final você irá querer ter mais episódios contando mais da vida deles ou então querer assistir tudo com se fosse a primeira vez)

O dorama, para muitos, pode não ser o melhor de todos e eu posso até concordar com algumas coisas, mas ele veio na melhor hora para mim e isso me faz aumentar bastante a minha nota.
Me arrependo de ter visto ele? Sim. Queria muito esquecer tudo dessa história e ver tudo novamente como se fosse a primeira vez.
Fiquei triste e chorei ao ponto de dar dor de cabeça. A forma como eles desenvolveram o bullying que a protagonista sofre por ter uma aparência considerada fora do padrão me abalou muito. Sofri muito com as letras das canções. Me emocionei com as tentativas do Seo-jun de convencer a Joo-kyung de vê-lo como um homem e não como um amigo. Não shippo eles dois, porém ver ele machucado desde o início do dorama me quebrou demais. Sofri com a separação do Su Ho e da Joo-kyung ao mesmo tempo em que amei ver eles juntinhos novamente depois de todo o sofrimento.
O dorama não vale a nota que eu dei, se formos considerar ela caso eu vá o indicar para alguém, mas para mim (considerando tudo que eu consegui sentir assistindo ele) ele vale sim essa nota.3

Que familia de mierda

Esta es la primera vez que no puedo soportar mas las ganas de venir a dar una review sin haber terminado de ver el kdrama pero loco, QUE FAMILIA DE MIERDA dios NADIE dentro de la familia de JooKyung se salva de ser una puta basura, nadie ahi parece una persona meramente descente que se preocupe por algo mas que no sea su propio ano, ven que JooKyung esta literalmente HECHA MIERDA y se lo pasan por el centro del culo loco a nadie le importa si la piba se muere o algo son una puta mierda que imagina que tanto me cagan como para venir aca a reseñar esto SIN TERMINAR EL DRAMA, que mira dudo si después cambia alguno de esos mononeuronales igual los voy a seguir odiando, si ni al de BJ Alex le perdone sus cagadas aunque "cambio" el trozo de mierda ese mucho menos a toda esta familia de ineptos superficiales de mierda son la definicion de todo lo malo y ese pais ojala se murieran que JooKyung estaria mejor sin esa bola de inoperantes es que solo SeoJoon parece tener algo de suerte en cuanto a familia y ojala no me lo caguen luego que parece ser el unico al que la familia no lo vive cagando a palos, encima si tenia algo bueno que decir pero me emputo tanto la familia de mierda de JooKyung que ya ni me acuerdo que cosas eran.

Increíble todo el material para bl que había entre Sooho y SeoJoon es que estoy en shock, realmente siento que si su amigo no moría esto perfectamente pudo ser un BL en donde ellos son la pareja mas linda de todas mientras que el amigo era como el hijito de ambos. Igual es increíble como una vez que analizas esta serie te das cuenta que le falto un asesinato y una pareja homosexual para haber tenido de todo, yo no se como hicieron para meter tantas cosas en una sola serie.

No me importa que la vieja de la prota se haya disculpado, para mi sigue siendo una puta mierda de madre y no tengo ganas de argumentar ya nada mas que increible la cantidad de cosas que metieron aca.

Ta drama to autentycznie dno i wodorosty. Koreańska kalka słodziutkich japońskich historyjek z mang. Drama o twarzach? tych ładnych i tych brzydkich.
Nie ma tu praktycznie nic wartego obejrzenia poza przystojnymi buźkami Cha Eun Woo albo Hwang In Yeopa.
Zero jakiegoś długotrwałęgo wątku. Z opisu się dowiecie że (L)Im Joo Kyung ma problemy z cerą które skrzętnie chowa przed makijażem i dlatego chowa się przed bullyingiem. Jak już wjedziecie w pierwsze epizody to zgodzicie się że problem się rozwiązał po nałożeniu perfekcyjnego makijażu i poznaniu kilku sympatycznych ludzi. Dalej już z automatu dzieje się dramowa próżnia wypełniana prostaczymi problemami + syndrome second lead tak baaaaaardzo boli. Nawet mnie zabolało :( HIY ja cię biorę wszędzie w ciemno.

Jestem zdumiona że ta drama swojego czasu tak pionierowała gdzieś w rankingach oglądalności, ale macie dowód że piękna twarz aktora to cudowny patent.
