I Picked Up a Star on the Road (2018)

Those who fail to review a drama are doomed to repeat it!

So, long story short, I apparently watched this drama before and forgot all about it. Once I watched the first episode I knew it was vaguely familiar but I somehow completely blocked it out. Why? Is it that bad? Yes! Sure, It was good enough to struggle through for a second time. Yes, the male lead is so attractive that I willingly forgave his stupidity, but this drama is terrible. Even with its brief moments of cute chemistry, and a pretty adorable 2nd lead. Why? Because the story is too ridiculous.

This drama basically tried to somehow make Stokholm Syndrome romantic. I don't consider it a spoiler, since it's in the main synopsis, but the female lead in this drama literally holds the male lead hostage. Briefly? Nope. For the majority of this drama.
Kim Ga Eun plays Lee Yeon Seo, a young woman in crisis struggling to make ends meet, who ends up bringing an unconscious celebrity to her apt. That one poor decission leads to more crazy choices that made it hard for me to like her character at all. I think we were supposed to sympathize with her struggles and therefore forgive her actions and laugh, but I just couldn't find it cute or funny, just frustrating. But Sung Hoon held my interest as arrogant Hallyu star Kang Joon Hyuk. His character is also very ridiculous but somehow still appealing throughout. Probably because, let's be honest, he's hot as hell! He is also funny without being as frustrating as his kidnapper, just silly. They do have great chemistry in the few cheesy moments that highlight their interest in each other, but something about the hostage plot leading to romance just did not sit well with me, no matter how they tried to spin it. I think they just waited too long to change direction. Even though this drama is short (only 10 episodes) it is not until about episode 7 that things finally follow the trope filled romcom playbook, which at least picked up the story pace. I think they tried to be original with a dark comedy twist in the earlier episodes, but it just made me never want them to get together for most of the drama. Ga Eun needed some consequences not a choice between two attractive men.

Normally I would ask if I would watch it again, but I clearly did. Did I like it when it originally aired? Who knows, but it's doubtful. I thought maybe I dropped it, but it looks like instead I watched it all (or definitely most of it), and then chose to immediately forget it and move on with my life. I'm writing this review to save myself from making the same mistake again. Even if the lead is cute. Really really cute. His smile just distracted me from the awful plot... sometimes. Not enough.

Also, why are women named Se Ra always trash humans in KDramaland??!!!

Overall this is the kind of drama that would be perfect to watch in between other dramas, but the female lead is just too annoying for my recommendation. The mystery plot is terrible too, and is resolved in a rush but still dragged on until the end. It's pretty easy to guess who the bad guys are and who's just a misunderstood red herring. The characters outside of the main trio also aren't very interesting either. So 10 episodes started to drag, feel repetitive, and even boring during it's most outrageous attempts at absurd humor. If the first episodes are hilarious to you then you will probably like this drama a lot more than I did since they stick to that scenario for a while. The actors did do the best they could with the dumb plot they were given, and not taking anything too seriously, but too many things made no sense at all. I can't blame Ga Eun for her poorly written and inconsistent character (is she super strong or not?!). I don't think any actress could have done any better with the role. If you are a fan ( like saesang level fan) of any of the leads you can probably find enough moments in this drama to keep you from being too disappointed, but I would rather watch any of them in anything else. 100% of Anything Else (lol). Yes, it all gets resolved in the end, but I was just happy it was finally over. The last episode felt sooooo long (maybe that's when I dropped it initially). The comedy, the suspense, and even the romance were a miss for me. Any cute scenes were too little too late and too corny too. This drama is well beyond my silliness threshold. I would need to be held hostage and forced against my will or go through another serious case of kdrama-amnesia to ever watch this in it's entirety again.

I loved every second of this show. I have watched shows about crime and to do with crime before but never something quite like this. I never wanted to stop the show not even once. This show was very difference from anything else I have watched. It made me happy, sad, mad and more. They did a great job with the idea of the story, the script, the translation and the acting in the story. The makeup, hair and outfits were super well done. The setting were all good. I didn’t see the big plot twist coming but it was really well done and great. I liked the plot twist a lot. I think it worked super well. There not one thing I hated about the show. Everything was good. I felt the show was well pace and the ten episodes was just enough for what need to be done. It wasn’t too little of eps or too many. While I want watch the show I felt like as the saw the celebrity felling in love with the girl he had gotten Stockholm syndrome and that why he was felling in love with her. But I looked passed that and still loved the show a lot. I couldn’t believe the the main celebrity of this show had a fake girlfriend for three year and she was the one planning on killing him before the main girl into end accidentally knocking him out (for a while thinking he dead and she needed to cover that up). I would recommend this show to everyone.

I don't even know how to describe this drama. They literally make anything romantic when it's not, and this drama doesn't even make sense. The main lead had a lot of chance to escape but never tries or ends up staying in her house, but when he is being watched or guarded he tries to escape. Just —why.

Although I'm gonna say that out of all Sung Hoon's drama that I've watched, this is the most tolerable. The others are just plain stupid and cringe. I'll rate this 4.5/10. The other characters are good and I like the coloring(?) or the vibe that this drama has.

Name of the Assassin

Does anyone knows the real name and Instagram of the man who tries to kill Sung Hoon?

I really really need it.....
I thought his acting throughout the series was pretty amazing..

Overall, I loved this drama soooooooooooooooooooo much and I don't understand why is it soooooo underrated.?

The cast was amazing... I instantly fell in love with Kim Jong Hoon....He's an amazing actor

As for SungHoon, I've watched almost all his dramas... He's gorgeous...


I love the female lead... I first saw her in Because it's my first life.... I was love her acting...


I highly recommend this drama

Enjoyable

It is a light hearted comedy and if one doesn't take life too serious, it is an enjoyable drama. The enjoyment really comes from your mood.
I was personally looking to simply be entertained. I did not want to think or get emotionally involved. I simply wanted a brain dead drama that will entertain me and this drama fit the bill perfectly.
Many times I laughed at the comedy of errors and irrational logic of Lee Yeon Seo to make this story funny.

I especially liked Kim Ga Eun acting. I have seen her acting in other dramas, but I think the character of Lee Yeon Seo brought extra behavior that I have not seen before. I found it even more funny when as LYS, she was asked to perform as an actor and how BAD she was at acting. I realized at that moment.. Here is an actor who is acting as LYS and acting as an amateur. I thought that was pretty cool.

ok start, slowly going downhill

I liked the actress in King the land, so when i saw her as a lead in a show i was kinda excited, but the excitement fell after about 3 episodes.

The female lead is portrayed as a hardworking down on her luck poor girl and the male lead is a rich a bit egotistic idol that is out of touch with normal life of people. Thats it, there is no real nuance, apart from one bit where the ML says he was poor until he was like 10 years old and then got scouted, but that pretty much didnt have to be there, at least for me it didnt change his character in any way.
The female lead is such a disappointing pushover throughout the whole show with maybe like 2 or 3 scenes of her actually doing something and standing up for herself. She is also portrayed for a bit as some super strong former high school wrestler, but it then goes unused and spolier, when they get attacked and kidnapped she is completely useless and has to be protected. Only after everything was pretty much over she knocked out another girl. Why even bother showing her effortlessly throwing the male lead in the beginning?
The plot had some potential, but the way it was handled was pretty weak. It was only 10 episodes so at least it didnt waste my time too much. Overall it was neither good nor bad, just kinda there, frustrating at times and at times kinda funny.
Kim Ga Eun was pretty, the acting of the cast was ok, just not much to work with.

This drama was just ok not more
The plot was good
The suspense was ok
The story was nice
The romance was very lukewarm and weak

I really didn't even feel the romance scenes
I liked that the ML forgave his CEO

It had happy ending but it wasn't clear enough for me

Does what happened means that the ML left everything and decided to live with the FL till his CEO comes out from jail ??

And si ra got prisoned for how long??
I wasn't satisfied enough for what happened to that B****

Anyway it was just one time watch
But it wasn't cute enough for me to keep it in my favourite list

First drama to skip episodes

Mwa... I expected more of it. This has actually been the first kdrama of which I have skipped episodes. The female lead was kind of annoying to me. No offense, she was just following the script...lol.
I think I skipped like 3 episodes. As of episode 7, it was okay and the story got my attention again.
I have seen several kdramas with Sung Hoon as the male lead. Personally I do not find him attractive, but somehow I do have a weak spot for him, most probably because of his performance in My secret romance, one of my first kdramas.
His acting is not really impressive, but I hope to see him one day in a drama with more depth in his role.

I liked by the way the reference to My secret romance. After the disappointment of this drama, I started to rewatch it. So also something came out of this kdrama :-)

Rare Dark Comedy/Romance

My rating 8/10. This 2018 South Korean Drama spans 10 episodes (~60 minutes/episode). The female lead Kim Ga Eun plays Lee Yeon Seo who works a contract job and is short of realizing her dreams.
Her horrible day and revenge on a horrible boss takes a bad turn when she thinks she is hitting her boss from behind in an alley only to find out she actually hit popular male idol, Kang Joon Hyuk (Sung Hoon). He falls unconscious and she thinks she killed him. So, she decides to take him home to dispose of the body. Joon Hyuk wakes to an alarming scene and thinks he has been abducted by a psychopath. Lee Yeon See decides to keep Kang Joon Hyuk prisoner until she can leave the country.

Spoiler 🚨 This has been described as a dark comedy and I would definitely agree with that. I also read that some felt it was originally intended to run for more episodes (rumor has it) and thus felt rushed at the end. I don't agree with that. I felt like it wrapped up nicely. I think some may struggle to decide whether the love that develops is Stockholm syndrome or a true meeting of hearts. Some of the decisions made by Lee Yeon Seo were hard to understand because they were different than what I would have decided. I rate this a little lower than some others because there are some aspects that are a bit hard to reconcile. However if you are able to stay within the moment and just go along with the fun and unique story you will be able to get past them. Definitely worth the watch and I would bump it up on your list if you are after uniqueness or dark comedy.

no script, no rythme, no offense to the actors

No offense to the actor's and crew except script writer and productor, this is not a well done drama ! Every watcher can focus on different things, so I understand that people can love this trimmer if you focus on on beauty of the actors, and the farce ( répétions humour, situation humour). You should aunt and prefer a good script with amazing ideas and the sense of rythm you will be very disappointed.
Theses two Heroes are too much stupid ! The humour of the situation with escaping tentatives is not creative enough. If you want to do so, please make it subtitle. He can try, no success, she sees it and makes no comment, he feels ashamed. This way is subtitle and the intimiste plot will follow easily. The script focus on escape, it 'd be better to focus on discovering each other, included the neighbor who 'll become the actor bestie. And of course the police work, on following the cop. Or the research of Mir, the main fake culprit.
Everybody knows that when there is a police search, the account are watched and frozen.
I can't identify to thoses stupid characters, du to an illogical script.

Guys you have to watch this drama,I swear it‘s soooo funny and intresting.

When I saw the Rating for this drama I was shoked i swear, it‘s a 10!!!!

I love the main actor that‘s why i started to watch this drama, but I was really surprised how good it was,and the main actress was really funny and sweet, the whole story is made with humor and that‘s why i liked it soo much.It‘s Not really a typic love story there are many sweet moments between the main couple but i liked that all three main leads were always together and helped each others like true Friends.

I have recently started this drama and I like the whole idea of kidnapping, I love watching criminal dramas with kidnapping because it is interesting to see whether the man will escape or not... I cant wait to see the end,hope it has happy end. The chemistry between the actors is so nice and they make me laugh in every episode, it is really relaxing drama and it is my favorite type...although sometimes the actors overdose with comic situations and make absurd things that cant happen in real life. But it is an interesting plot and i will definitely continue watching this + the cast is so beautiful and fresh.
