The acting is great.

Loved the acting. I don't agree with the ending. No learning was necessary. When Xiang Hao understood he was in love, he did everything to be close to the person he cherished. He understood time was valuable. I think they did a great disservice to Yu Xi Gu character. Someone who struggled, didn't win in the end.I don't think such "learnings" are necessary in this case.Horrible ending for such awesome acting.I would've totally understand if Yu Xi Gu was sick due to poor nutrition, but not something so sudden.

Overall Amazing

This show was absolutely amazing. The production value and effort put into making this show was the best yet of the HIStory series. The acting was much better than we had previously seen in this series, and a few of the actors were actually well known and had previous acting credits. The OST was nice and most of the time went along pretty well with the story. Now, let's talk about the ending. Most people did not like the ending. I personally enjoyed the fact that he died because it shows that not everyone will always get a happily ever after. It is more realistic in that sense. My only problem with the show is that Wayne's character did not move on. Until the very end, he can be seen crying over him and not being able to even properly function in society. I personally know what it's like to lose a loved one, but I would have loved to have seen him move on while still having him in his heart. There is no problem with remembering, but I think the ending would have been better with him moving on and becoming if not happy then at least content again. Other than that, this show is amazing and would definitely recommend.

Wayne Song saves this episode (somewhat)

Wayne Song did such a great job showing us a completely changed Xiang Hao Ting.Altho the actual ending of the episode was disappointing and abrupt, he managed to keep the show somewhat together with his acting skills. This might be the saddest episode but it was definitely his best acted one. He truly shone. Besides that the story line had a hard time being believable with all its random and sudden developments. The show and its lovely characters definitely deserved more.

Loved it!

I really liked this series! Storyline, side-ships they all perfect!. The only thing bothered me trough all series was Yu Xi Gu. I think the actor didn't quite fit the role but it's just my opinion.(im sorry i just couldn't embrace him like that in series :( ) Other than that whole casts acting skills and story line was very good. Highly recommended. Hope we can see Wayne and his gang ina lot of series like this! Sun Bo and Luz Zhi is such a cute couple too i love them!!!!

The drama was so cute and well executed until this final episode... the death literally came out of nowhere and didn’t fit into the show in the slightest. I couldn’t watch most of it because it was so painful. It made me question what the point of the show really was? Which is sad because this drama had been a really nice way to destress.

2.5 Points for Wayne's acting, 0 for everything else.

I wrote this as a comment, but felt it would make a good standalone review. I wouldn't call this ending bittersweet. There was no sweetness in it. They tried and failed to make me believe that Hao Ting had moved on. That final conversation was lazily written, and all of it was stuffed into the last few minutes of the episode as a rushed attempt at justification for a tacked on twist. The writers wanted me to believe that Hao Ting will move on with his life and be better for his experiences, but all I was left with was a sad man who made all of his life's important decisions to follow a boy and ended up with nothing.

We leave this drama with our lead character being pushed by his parents to marry a girl we don't see, that Hao Ting shows no interest in, as he's about to go abroad to study something he also shows no real interest in. A subject he chose, mind you, because Xi Gu liked it. Is it possible Hao Ting genuinely likes his major and his girlfriend? Sure. But we don't get to see that. We're left with a depressed shell of his former self carrying out the motions of life because he has to and not because his experiences have improved him or because he has a will to live.

Realism is fine in a drama. Sad or tragic endings are fine in a drama. But execute them properly and have buildup to go with it. Properly conclude the themes and emotions you're trying to invoke. We didn't get that with this ending, which is why it's a frustrating mess. It felt like another drama's ending spliced and glued to the end. Even a sad ending can be satisfying, but this one is anything but because there is no resolution or thematic cohesion.

Other things worth mentioning that contribute to the low rating:
- Xi Gu's doppelganger. It was both hard to believe and infuriating because his existence is solely to stall time until the mid-episode twist.
- The reinforcement of Hao Ting's "I'm not gay/bi, I just loved him." It was already a point of contention for many people, but they doubled down by trying to explain it as no man ever being able to replace Xi Gu. Good thing he gets a girlfriend, I guess?
- Falling into the age old BL trope of killing your gays.
- Sloppy and rushed conclusion to the second loveline. That conflict was barely introduced, but then it was "resolved" in seconds.
