i really liked this drama. the story line wasn't the basic Korean drama story where the main characters fall in love and they go through all this stuff but end up together. i liked that it was something different. The ending was great, it was the most emotional part and i loved it. the sound track wasn't that good though. usually i rely on the sound track to make me emotional and push those feelings but the sound track for this drama was almost non existent. it was very weak and unnoticeable. the good thing about the sound track was that it wasn't over played to the point where it was annoying.

It took a long time for me to finish this drama. Generally, I have a short attention span for dramas with a slow pace, heavy storyline and stretching upto 20 episodes. I don't like certain types of dramas which have a tragic note attached to them, but this can be counted in the exceptions. It is difficult to write a review without giving away spoilers, but I will try my best.

49 Days is a very beautiful story. It has the power to touch you if you understand it, or it would plainly annoy you. Even if this isn't the usual type of dramas that I watch, I liked it nevertheless. It is a complex and very well woven story. I have to say that the writer is quite talented. I have never come across a story of this sorts before so it had a lot of mystery and suspense for me to hang on to. It has its high and low points, but overall it is done well. Most of it is good because of such great characterizations.

I have never witnessed such immense character growth in a female in a Korean drama before. Ji Hyun's character grows magnificently until the end. Her whole journey is so touching. Her transformation from a naive, clueless girl to a strong girl who fights for her survival was really great! And that is what defines this show. No matter how many characters and sub-plots there were, in the end it all pointed back to Ji Hyun's growth as a character. Only with her maturing and becoming stronger along the way, the story progresses. Everything was centric on her actions and feelings. I personally loved her. Both the actress who played the real Ji Hyun and the one whose body she possesses are superb actors. But since Lee Yo Won had more screentime, she made a stronger impact on me. Her emotional variations shown through her acting were commendable. She is simply fantastic and playing two roles at once must have been so difficult.

Out of all, the second best character was that of Han Kang's. What he had for Ji Hyun is what is what I call true love. His actions touched me till the end. Also, he had an amazing character development from withdrawn, moody and cold to loving, kind and compassionate. It took time for him to grow on me, but he has made a lasting impression. The actor was also quite talented.

While these were mostly the plus points of the show, the secondary characters were simply bland. I never cared about them and wanted to especially strangle In Jung. She was such an inhumane character. I also enjoyed Jung Il Woo as the Scheduler.

The strongest parts of the story were placed at random places, and it felt terribly dragged towards the end after the 16th episode or so. I didn't care all that much about Song Yi Kyung and I loved her best when she interacted with Ji Hyun or was possessed by her. And the show was kind of slow for my taste. But that wasn't that much of a problem once I got invested in the storyline. I had planned to drop it because I knew the ending but the I hate to leave my questions unanswered, so I came back to it.

While the ending was not something I liked, I won't say that it happened out of nowhere. There were subtle hints from the beginning about the outcome. Anyway, it was still sad and decreases the rewatch value. So, this drama is best seen once. Either way, I do not regret watching it and would probably recommend to anyone in search of a good story.

WARNING! This review is written from the perspective of somebody who wasn’t really impressed with this drama, so if you consider 49 Days a masterpiece, you might be a little annoyed.

I’ve started this drama because ever since I discovered MDL I kept on hearing that 49 Days is one of the best dramas ever made and that I will not regret watching it at all. Additionally, it has a really high score on MDL and I won’t lie, ratings are important to me. Now, after 3 weeks of struggling with those 20 long episodes, I’ve decided that I have to write a review to express my opinion which is quite different from majority. But let’s keep this review in order.

Story. Actually, the concept of this drama is quite good – maybe not completely original and unique, but still, it caught my attention. Although I’ve read that lots of people are complaining that it starts really slow, for me the beginning was the most interesting part of the whole drama; it kept me entertained and made me want to see next episodes. Unfortunately, somewhere around ep. 6 I became extremely bored with the whole thing: nothing really was happening and even those tiny revelations that were supposed to push the action forward were fading away because of the stillness of the plot. Also, I found some scenes too cliché and overly dramatic – I guess that I was supposed to cry a river while watching them, but all I could do was roll my eyes in annoyance.

Acting/Cast. Let’s start with our main heroine, Shin Ji Hyun. Well, I have to confess that she was extremely pissing me off; her constant attempts to be cute, her naivety and stupidity, everything about her was making me annoyed and made it really hard for me to keep on watching this drama. I can’t even say if Nam Gyu Ri is a good actress – I was too blinded by irritation to really evaluate her skills. If the script included her being the most annoying female character ever then she should get a prize, because certainly she did a good job.

Next one: Song Yi Kyung. First of all, I have to admit that I have a weakness for Yo Won – I consider her being one of the top Korean actresses at the moment. But the pleasure of seeing her in a drama was spoiled by characters she was playing: you already know what do I think about Ji Hyun, but what about Yi Kyung? Well, she was too broody emo-ish and gloomy for my tastes. I understand she lost the love of her life and whole family in one person but the feelings of emptiness, sadness and depression can surely be expressed in other way than by extremely slow walking, poker-faced expressions and wearing dirty, rumpled clothes?

As for men in this drama, I’ll write only about the most outstanding one: Jung Il Woo as the Scheduler. At the beginning I didn’t like him at all, he was too goofy and loud but as the series progressed, I started to see his depth and really liked him. So yeah, Jung Il Woo played his part perfectly, he slowly made me love him and I think it was supposed to be like this.

Music. The music was good, of course nearly all of the songs were sad and depressing to emphasize the melodramatic tones of this drama, but still, they were pleasant to hear and not too repetitive.

Rewatch value. Well, I won’t rewatch it for sure – one time was already too much for me and I think that even those who did love this drama won’t find it as interesting when they will watch it again, simply because the strength of this drama lays in twists of its plot (and there weren’t many of them, may I add). Without this ‘surprise factor’ the story is likely to become unbearably boring I think.

To sum it all up, for me 49 Days is not a drama I will remember for a long time, but I can understand why some people gave it a 10. Sadly, it can get only a 7 from me – in my opinion it was an average story with some nice points, like the Scheduler and a few unexpected twists in a plot.

Full disclosure: I\'\'m writing this right after having seen the last episode, and I\'\'m in still in tears, so please bear with me. If I had to choose two words to describe the feel of this drama, they would be: somber and contemplative. Not that there aren\'\'t any cute moments, because trust me there are plenty. However, the overall muted color palette and the restrained acting from the cast really invites the viewer to really think about life, love, and death along with the characters, to realize that death is needed to bring new life, and that old love must be released to allow new love to flourish.

What I found most compelling was the friendship between Shin Ji Hyun and Song Yi Kyung, which placed the romances on the back burner for me. Granted, I\'\'m new to the K-Drama scene, so there might be plenty of dramas that depict such a beautiful relationship between women. However, 49 Days was my first encounter of such a thing, and I became emotionally involved in how Ji Hyun comes to care for her unsuspecting host, and how Yi Kyung in turn grows to care for her unexpected friend. The way these two help to bring closure to each other was a joy for me to watch.

The soundtrack also both perfectly captures and amplifies the mood of the series, especially Jung Il Woo\'\'s contribution entitled \"Scarecrow\". The story, based on a somewhat esoteric bit of Buddhist after-life theory, is original, extremely well written, and perfectly paced so that the story is constantly progressing and never stagnating over some little plot point. There has been much griping about the ending, and although there are clues clumsily given in the later episodes, I understand how some find the ending unexpected. However, this drama never billed itself as a light drama or as a romantic comedy, so I think it\'\'s a bit disingenuous to claim that the ending hoodwinks the audience. I was unsatisfied with one unnecessary storyline that was introduced, and instantly wrapped up, in the last episode, hence the 9 for story. Overall, despite centering around death, this is one of the most life-affirming dramas I have seen. It might be a bit premature, but this drama has my vote for one of the best in 2011.

This drama is so different. I cant even categorize it into a genre.

The story was filled with light moments as well as many dark ones. Its very slow paced which Im not fond of but thats just because Im an anxious person. Many things are slowly revealed throughout the drama. So its hard to wait patiently. BTW be prepared to bawl your eyes out in episode 19. the only other time ive ever cried watching a drama was with Stairway to Heaven so thats saying something. Alot of people on here complained about the ending. Ill admit when I got to the end of episode 19 I wanted to scream because I thought I wasted 19 hours on a drama with an ending that doesnt justify anything that happened the entire series. After I finished the last episode, I realized that it is not a storybook ending but you learn an important lesson about life and death. Something that is revealed in the last episode is mindblowing though so its worth watching.

Acting was phenomenal by the entire cast. Even the villians were so good you feel sympathetic for them.

The music was very whimsicle. It had a nice flow and went along great with the scenes. The OST is great too!

Id rewatch this in a couple of years just because the story is sad and thatll give me time to forget most of the events that took place.

Overall this drama is not your average drama but its something to watch and you will take something away from it.

i just finish this drama, and i regret i miss such a GREAT drama!

First of all, this is my first review, I'm trying my best to not spoil anything. Without further ado, now into the review,

Story
To be honest I'm sold to this drama because of its storyline. The main girl life seems so perfect, but then an accident happen, one by one puzzle pieces were revealed. As the title suggest, she's given 49 days to collect 3 drops of true tear.

Acting/Cast
Lee Yo Won definitely my favs in this drama. Her acting was superb, being able to distinctly change her expression. Jung Il Woo acts perfectly as Scheduler, lot of scene with him adding comedy to this not-so-happy-going drama. The other cast also great enough to make me glued to my chair.

Music
The music is okay, there's some track that i love as it add more sad-feeling right. My personal favs track is I Can Feel It.

Rewatch Value
A second watch maybe will lessen the excitement of this drama. But I think this drama still worth a rewatch once in a while.

Overall
At first I didn't put a high hope for this drama. Turn out my expectation is very wrong! You people should watch it, for me the story and acting were sooo superb! Also please always keep your tissue beside you as you will use it a lot !

49 Days remains to be the most unique kdrama I have seen. From the background to the unfolding story, yes, the end - it was all done so well. It was emotional, surprising and always left me wanting much more. I'll tell you something though - I cried. I cried SO MUCH. I have yet to cry that much for another drama.

Anyone who watches 49 Days is in store for an intricate story of love and betrayal. If you've ever been fascinated with what lies beyond our reality, this is definitely the drama for you.

This drama is really great. In my opinion, 49 Days is the best drama in 2011. After i watched the first episode it hooked me up and it made me curious how the story went. There is a lot of surprise in this drama which is i never expected before.

The actors and actress have a great chemistry and all of them have a great acting skills and i thought Lee Yo Won is the best among the other casts. Lee Yo Won acted two different characters perfectly and it made me love her more.

49 Days is not all about romance but also about the meaning of life. This Drama teach us how to live your life, how to appreciate every second of your life.

This drama promises the viewers something and gives them something else.

It promises to be a fantasy drama and it ends up being a sort of religious/philosophical brick-à-brack. Fantasy requires a dream-like atmosphere - which is lacking here - and is built upon moments of true respite, be it a healthy laugh or a funny, surreal, fast paced adventure.

This show has nothing of the sort to offer.

It promises to give us a reason as to why these 49 days were given to that particular character and it ends up solving a corporate conspiracy.

It promises romance and it gives us friendship - which would be just fine, if only one wouldn't expect something different.

It goes as far as to close up with a supposed lesson, which I personally find pretentious. Because, unless you are 14 and have never read or heard of "letting go of the deaths and live your life to the fullest", there is nothing new to be learnt here.

I would have gladly accepted this as the main theme of the drama if they had chosen to narrate it in a symbolic way, or a unique direction. When content is trite, style has to take over, or the impression is we are taught a very obvious lesson. And while direction and photography were both good, they chose the path of realism, in direct contrast with the plot.

I was disappointed with the acting too. With the notable exception of Scheduler - and even he lost his spark in the last episodes - all the others felt contrived and apathetic. Mostly the main female lead, whose broody expression and slow pace became an exaggerated repetition already on episode 5. Mind you, I'm not criticizing the actress: for all I know, this could be - and probably was - a direction choice.

The music was good, I thought it soundtracked each episode with due discretion, never overpowering the scene.

Re-watch value: 1. Because once you are deprived of the thrill to know what's going to happen to these characters, the charm of it evaporates like puddles on a hot day.

I really liked this drama at the start, but it really did not need to be 20 episodes long. It dragged out the same story WAY too much. The story-line was really refreshing and different and contained some twists. The acting was also very good. Overall it was a good drama. It seems its only real downfall is that the same story was dragged out as far as it could and became boring.

This drama is soo good I wanna cry, it just become my top 5. The actors and the acting was so good it made me believe that stuff like ghosts or lingering souls might exist. There is such a twist and connection that unveils and surprises u which made it awsome to watch. I wish the last bit wouldve been extended so the two are together. Yi kyung did a good job acting bubbly and distant I could see both characters in one. This is different from the other dramas although it follows same pattern. The scheduler at the begining made me doubt his acting coz I dint like him in "take care of young lady" but he did his job well and deserved that character. Hang kang I fell in love with and I really hoped he could atleast have a kiss scene esp at the end. The ghost girl was awsome and her eyes did look like she could be one. Anyways must see this.
